Extra Hyper Game Music Event 2008 in Japan photo

Aside from having the best name ever, the live music event known as EXTRA HYPER GAME MUSIC EVENT 2008 may also have the best guest/performer list ever:

  • Yuzo Koshiro
  • Norihiko Hibino
  • Shinji Hosoe
  • Hip Tanaka
  • Nobuyoshi Sano
  • Yasunori Mitsuda
  • Michio Okamiya

This guest list is basically a list of game music gods in Japan. Hip Tanaka did everything good from Nintendo that Koji Kondo didn't. Yuzo Koshiro is a legend, scoring everything from Streets of Rage II to Shenmue. And don't get me started on Yasunori Mitsuda. Just don't.

This show kicked off last year with a live stage and a DJ stage, and will be returning for a repeat performance on October 13th at a place called Studio Coast in Japan.  I'm going to try to elbow my way into this event, as well as another doujin music event taking place the same day. Look for my coverage of both shows right after TGS next month.

I would go just for Yuzo Koshiro, nothing beats that Streets of Rage boss fight music.

No Kenji Ito? Pity, he did the soundtrack to my favorite game of all time Final Fantasy Adventure (Seiken Densetsu 1).
