The most significant new feature in FIFA Soccer 11 is something that developer EA Canada is calling Personality+ -- it uses a database that evaluates players' skills to provide a much more authentic gameplay experience. Essentially, Personality+ differentiates the best of the best soccer players from the mediocre ones, and in doing so, it ensures that players in the game will play like their real-life counterparts.

Check out the FIFA 11 developer diary above, where creative director Gary Paterson goes through various facets of Personality+ -- using cool-looking red/blue development models! -- and how they affect gameplay. For example, a low-skill player will have a much higher variance in his shot placement -- he'll be much less accurate and reliable than a high-skill player. This applies on defense, too, where low-skill defenders will be more easily beaten by adroit dribblers.

FIFA 11 will launch worldwide this October for PS3, 360, Wii, PC, PSP, PS2, DS, and mobile platforms.

So, will the PC version be next gen, or as I call it in this case, appropriate gen? Or will we have to put up with the watered down "we haven't changed a thing since FIFA World Cup 1998" version again?

It would be interesting to see this implemented into your own character in Be a Pro/Virtual Pro mode. By the sound of it you would have a player that suits your playing style pretty well, and distinct from others.

I just might buy my first FIFA game when this comes out.

So they are making sure there's a lot of difference from a 60 Passing player and a 90 Passing Player right? Did they had to name that? ¬¬

I mean, isn't that a basic in sports games? Anyway, this is a day one buy for me, the last 3 years or so FIFA has been kicking ass.

@Ramalho - I think its more indepth than that. Its just not a skill % thats changing but actual player behaviour changes with lower skill.

Cannot wait for this, the video did a great job of explaining how the new system worked and was generally interesting. Roll on Fifa 11.

This is FUCKING RIDICULOUS. NO FOOTBALLER IS THAT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I go regularly to non league football and the low skill highlighted in this video is sunday league, not what fifa is aiming to use it for. Completely ridiculous

@pompey606 - I understand what you are trying to say, but I think the video is showing the difference between someone like Ronaldo versus someone who plays in like the MLS or something. Personally, I think it looks awesome, and after reading some of the things they've done with adding personalities to the game, it sounds ridiculous. I was reading how Fabregas basically handles the midfield by himself, placing ridiculously awesome passes, or how Rooney is always going balls to the wall trying to get every loose ball, while somebody like Berbatov isn't as aggressive and tries hard when the ball is passed to him. It sounds really awesome.

@pompey606: have you ever watched North Korea playing football? Even here in Brazil there are A LOT of terrible players who can't barely make a 2meter pass.
