they are alright but alot of stuff I want to play in the future won't work on those platforms nad there is alot of social games that I just don't like (ie mafia wars or something like that)
"is leaving to make Facebook games"
"Facebook games"
I shed a tear.
Over time I actually think this gives creative room to developers that want to make what they want vs. develops in it for the money.
I dont think we are there yet and i agree that this might have to do with what OneRed was talking about with the Publisher's "AAA title" mentality/business model.
I had hoped it would die on the vine like WebTV but if it's going to stay, keep the crossover shit down and the influence a one way street. I already have to put up with shoe horned multiplayer and simplistic controls.
It not about popularity. Its about quality of product beginning to suffer (seemingly) in direct proportion to audience size. Happens in every format. Personally, I am of the opinion that "pop" music is complete and utter mindless garbage, big budget action films (the new mission impossible?) are a blight on american cinema, and I haven't seen but a handful of games in that last couple of years that really made me want to play them. At least in comparison to 10 years ago. "Mainstream Hater" is upset at the failing integrity that used to be much more prevalent in his beloved hobby.
No, I'm talking the early Commodore 64 era, where us 8 year olds would pore over the magazines, trying to find the one with the best tape/demo. And if there were no tapes/demos on offer, you'd buy the mag with the best looking BASIC game (hard to tell, since there were usually no screenshots and "imaginative" artwork) and go home and type that shit out by hand, debugging for syntax errors. Because, well , there was nothing else to do! Where a piece of shit game with a flashy painted cover could become a hit, because, before the internet, before "review copies" (of all but the most hyped games, in wich case the review was most likely bullshit advertorial) - the best you could expect is a review in a magazine a month after you saw that shit game you shouldn't have bought if you kne how bad it was.
Really, once the NES came out, and we had things like "The Wizard" and "Nintendo Power" (Commodore shoulda made their own magazine too!), and a slow escalation of genres becoming more diverse and finding larger audiences as they grew. Now I'm sure all you teens and twenty somethings look back to the era before you were born and go "wow that shit was cool, that was edgy" like you may go watch Beverley Hills Cop, but trust me, most of it was fluro derivative crap. Sure, there were hundreds of great games, but thousands, THOUSANDS of shit ones. With hindsight, when you get the "greatest 50 games of the 80's list" to look over, it's easy to imagine it was all roses, without even having to know about the shit surrounding those roses. And really - why should you? But to paint a picture of an uber cool high quality "gaming underground" era (whether it's the 70's/80's 90's or 00's you're referring to) when it never really existed - while a great fantasy to have, and to enjoy - is not justification for your "game/s I don't like is popular therefore the industry has gone to shit, let me beat you over the head with it" argument.
This whole gaming has gone too mainstream stuff is among the biggest pile of shit I have ever heard. So you don't like COD - boo fucking hoo - there's more quality indie games, more genres that FPS,wide access to nearly 40 years worth of games - generally just more fucking quality than at any previous stage in gaming in the last 28 years. And you want to cry because Joe Sixpack likes a game you don't.
If that's your attitude - just fucking give up on gaming. Now.
Mobile/social gaming = gaming. Deal with it.
Also what's going on in this community? Was Jimmyx banned? Is Jimboxxx his second account? Or is he a parody of Jimmyx like Jammyx? :p
I'll lay money on it that I was gaming before you were even a twinkle in your old man's eye. I hate whiny fuckers like you; gamers with a ridiculous sense of entitlement like you; gamers who get their arses kicked online and then bitch about bro-gamers and such.
Why don't *you* fuck off, and take up a different hobby whereby you can make the rules like, I don't know, painting?
Absolutely well said. It is an incredible time for videogames. There is quality, there is diversity, and games aren't even that expensive, relatively speaking, if you're willing to wait a couple of months. I've said it over and over, but if you do not like a particular videogame, then don't play it. There is a greater selection now than ever before, so why would anyone stress about a title or a genre they do not enjoy when they can simply pick up one they will enjoy.
I don't care for military shooters, but it doesn't bother me if someone else does. I don't care for social games, but it does not bother me if someone else does. I've been in gaming since I first wiggled that Combat cartridge into our family's Atari 2600, and I have no problem where gaming is right now.
@ Vanor
Dude, I've played the SHIT out of SotC. After I beat the original 5 times and completed all the time challenges for each difficulty setting, I bought the HD version and did it again.
Someone needs to whack them all on the heads to knock some sense back into them. Get this done and get it out!
