The other day, I got an email from rapper Random, asking me if I'd be interested in scoring an exclusive single from his new Final Fantasy VII album Black Materia: The Remixes. My exact response was, "Aw, hells yeah! That would be amazing!" So here it is!
"Ninja Girl" is a new track that didn't appear on the original Black Materia. As you can probably infer from the title, it's about everybody's favorite (or least favorite) kunoichi Yuffie. I was more than a little curious that Yuffie didn't get any sort of recognition the first time around --neither did Cait Sith, for that matter. I guess Ran was feeling a tinge of regret, but not enough that he couldn't still give her the business!
It's a light-hearted song that should no doubt sit well amongst the rest of the new cuts. If you like it, you can grab the mp3 here. The full Black Materia: The Remixes album will be released on January 31 and can be pre-ordered on megranmusic.com for $5.
Not good rap at all. It's dull to listen to and the lyrics aren't very memorable. The whole thing feels amateurish, really - the guy has talent as a performer but could do with better material than this "references make this cool" stuff. It's like the anodyne guitar bands who think dropping a reference to Thundercats makes them quirky and cool.
Apparently, a lot of people have little to no appreciation for good lyrics. Random/Megaran's strong point (and tbh most nerdcore rapper's strong point) is fantastic lyrics. Unfortunately it is a bit of a niche area of music.
To be fair, if someone like Discount Tent Ed were to offer some examples of artists who he believes to be stronger lyrically, I might be able to understand where his disappointment comes from. All I can say right now is, "Amateurish compared to WHOM?"
I actually enjoyed that. Not as much as the other songs on his original album but really good anyways. that Epoch video got me to buy all his albums tho CURSES!!! all those songs and beats are soo damn good!!!. Draculas Curse FTW!
If you haven't met Ran, listened to his music, or seen him live you have no place to hate...he is truly one of the most talented, energetic, and humbled men you will ever enjoy the company of. Rep
Had the pleasure of seeing Megaran on your last fall with mc chris and Adam warrock. All excellent artists. Megaran seemed like a really cool and honest guy and is a very good lyricist.
