Archie's Sonic Universe spin-off is all well and good, but what's going on in the main series? Next month marks the comic's 236th issue, so yeah, a whole damn lot is going on. In fact, I've mentioned before that one of the comic's hilariously unfortunate necessities is the need to constantly reference past events for the benefit of newcomers. One page in #236 features no less than five footnotes! That's a lot of asterisks!
Kidding aside, below is a batch of preview pages from the May issue that Archie has graciously shot my way. Eggman is terrorizing woodland critters in his Death Egg Mk II (now shaped like an actual egg), Sonic's home of New Mobotropolis in under the rule of an old, sorcerous villain, and the Freedom Fighters are in shambles. All this drama has meant that there's been a lot of jibber-jabber and very little action as of late. Hopefully, #236 picks up the pace as Sonic rallies a new team to combat the dual threat.
Of course, the show is stolen once again by Eggman, who ought to be everybody's favorite character by now if he wasn't already. During one of his village raids, he alerts the citizens: "Everyone in this town is now the property of the Eggman Empire! Resistance will be met with mocking laughter and violence, not necessarily in that order!" Ian Flynn can write bad guys, let me tell you!
