Evidence of a new Metal Gear Solid game? It quite possibly 'exists' photo

Yes I know, that's not the most exciting header image that we've ever had on Destructoid, but I tried to spruce it up for you. It's all Konami has given the Internet to work with, sadly. This bland image, as found on the Japanese trademark database, hints at a possible new MGS game in the works, titled Metal Gear Solid Existence, but you already knew that, because you can read.

What could this be, exactly? A prequel? MGS4 on the Xbox 360 (ohmygod lolz)? Or maybe it's just Konami messing around and this title won't lead anywhere, as can sometimes be the case with these trademarks.

Of course, TGS is right around the corner, so it's a prime time to be trademarking things that may or may not be revealed at the biggest videogames show of the year. Looks like we'll have to sit tight and see where this leads us.

By Extras you mean more than one disc for the whole game? HAHA! That would change that scene with Otacon for sure.

Also, MGS for Wii. haha

Itll be a special edition MGS4, like Susbistance and the other -ance one which name I've forgotten.

Hopefully it's a console version and not a hand held... if this is even true.

Furius has it. Substance, Subsistance, Existance.

Special edition version which anyone with a brain knew was coming. As for it being on the 360? Well I can't be sure about that.

Yup, I'd have this down as Metal Gear Solid 4: Existance meself.

Sterling, don't be a dick and fuel the 360 rumours, they're not worth mentioning.

MGS2: Subsistence
MGS3: Sustenence
MGS4: Existencep

Also, looks like Konami weren't lying when they said Guns of the Patriots wouldn't be on 360, because they're porting over the director's cut.

MGS4 on 360 is one of best jokes on the net, but not as good as saying halo 3 is a good game

Wait, wasn't existence that third disc that only the limited edition of MGS3:Subsistence had?

If they are gonna release that to the public, then i'm all over that cuz I ain't got an LE.

I think it was, Palidi. I'm not crazy enough about MGS to bring it to work with me, but now I'm going to check that when I get home. I would also expect the director's cut for 4 to start with "sub" again and not drop the 4.

MGS4 to be released as episodic content on LIVE that will require you to instead swap HD between chapters as Snake smokes. Will also take a months to download a single chapter giving Konami time to port the next chapter of the game. That's if LIVE servers don't crash :P

Calling it now: it's a trading card game that will be played on the DS with the new DS Card Reader And Keep Fit peripheral, which will make you run for 5km (or violently shake your machine) before scanning the cards in.

My guess is that it's the same as the MGS3 "Existence" disc- an amalgamation of all the cut-scenes into one large movie-thing. What MGS4 should've been, really.

@RJG:
MGS2: Substance
MGS3: Subsistance

Those 2 I knew, but apparently MGS1 had Integral; shame it doesn't fit the rhyming thing they have going on.
Wikipedia also tells me Palidi is right!

See this is why I didn't buy MGS3 (played a friends copy): I played MGS2 to death, and when Substance came out it wasn't compatible with past save games >_<

It's the new director's cut, with any luck, just as I predicted. I don't know whether that means it will be on Xbox 360, but I guess it's good that I waited.

Its obviously the trademark expanded edition of MGS 4. Which, if God exists, will include a secret theatre like Subsistence.

I wonder if MGS4 was ported to the 360 if MS would want all of the Apple stuff removed...if so that would be A LOT of stuff, like every computer in the game, the ipod, and I guess the sixaxis snake controls MKII with as well. Anyway, prolly just special edition like every other MG game.

@Blindside

If I remember correctly, I believe Kojima said he'd actually like to see a Wii Metal Gear. Obviously not 4, but he did say something about the Wii. I also don't think it's any director's cut of 4, since all that can be done through downloadable content now.

Also, I love how this story just happened to be thrown into the Xbox 360 section.

"Existence" would seem to be an appropriate subtitle for a version of MGS4, since Snake is wrasslin' with matters of his own existence and whatnot. Definitely looks like those 360 rumors could be coming to fruition.

Integral/The Twin Snakes
Substance

Existance

Why even bother with the original copies? I mean MGS4 did have the kickass limited edition boxart but other than that, huh?

As a couple of people have already said, "Existence" was the name of the third disc for Subsistence. It would be weird to use it again for something else.

I agree with Furius and the others who mentioned it above. My first thought was it'll just be the re-packaged MGS 4 with extras. No way it'll be a 360 version, unless it'll be a super watered down version that will take up 7 discs.
