Was the super hyped thing with Geoff Keighley really "just" the renaming of mgs: Rising ?

thegiiro: no it was the reveal of The Last of Us an dits developer Naughty Dog. And I think it lived up. I cant believe the developer is Naughty God and they managed to keep it a secret.

The VGA host (whoever the hell he is) called out online bigotry for all of 5 seconds in the least witty way he could, and when the show cuts to ads from sponsors? We get an ad for World of Warcraft starring Chuck Norris, an open homophobe. #hypocrisymuch

Thank Platinum Games and Konami for finally allowing is to play as the badass from cutscenes in MGS that we could never play as before. Watched the first half hour of the second airing, will probably watch the rest on DVR.

The lack of Holmes and Sterling nakedness on the livestream was very dissapointing.

I eagerly await the articles about how the VMAs are awful and bring us all down with them in the eyes of the masses. It’s kind of a yearly tradition. :)

With the exception of ND's game, it was rather lackluster.

Im honestly a bit upset that they didnt show the presentation for best indie game on television. They did last year when Limbo won and it was one of the most sincere things Ive ever seen in this current gaming culture. The games producer accepted the award and was nearly in tears because of it, and it was especially awesome that a game that most "gamers" would have never heard of if not for the VGAs.

I am hyped on Diablo III. I can't wait to play that game! I thought The Last of Us looked pretty promising.. lets hope they do a good job with it! I think they took a different path with Rising than I had expected.. I am not sure what I expected. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

A raise of my eyebrow to Rainbow 6, BioShock and Tekken Tag 2, and a tip of the hat to Miyamoto and Skyrim.

Pretty disappointing to be honest. The only thing I'm really interested in is The Last of Us. Naughty Dog did wonders with their take on 3rd person adventuring, and I cannot wait to see how they approach the survival horror genre.

VGA is irrelevant, almost to the point of being an insult to the group we call "gamers."

I cannot fathom how much money is invested in this industry and how something so absurd exists in this form. Can we not take ourselves seriously?

C&C Generals 2 worries me, I mean since when were RTS games Bioware's area of expertise? I dunno, I'd rather see Bioware do what they did best and make solid RPGs rather than EA trying to bring back their C&C franchise (which to be fair hasn't been great post-generals) by slapping the Bioware sticker on it. That and the bioshock trailer was like paying a hooker for a hug, fortnite gives me funny vibes and yeah...

The Last of Us AKA Left 4 Dead: The Early Years does look pretty sexy though, same goes for MGS Rising (boner) and the way it looks like MGS meets Bayonetta/Ninja Gaiden, I trust platinum to make a bitching great job of it!

Don't worry Max, the Bioware we know aren't making it. They just renamed a studio called Victory Games so they could stick the Bioware "brand" on the box.

The Last of Us? great. made by Naughty Dog? here's my middle finger, sony. now that Naughty Dog run to the ground entire action-adventure genre stripping it from all of its key features and downgrading it to the lowest common denominator i.e. "the call of duty crowd", they will destroy another genre - "yay". the only plus side is that ND's ruining action-adventure genre gave us games like Tomb Raider Underworld, Darksiders, Batman Arkham Asylum and other true action-adventure games from developers who wanted to make ACTUAL action-adventure games. now we've got Batman Arkham City, Zelda Skyward Sword, Deus Ex 3 and new Tomb Raider that seems to be spiritual successor to Underworld. so hopefully ND's ruining another genre will push other developers to make some great survival/horror games.

as for new Generals, it's made by people who created Might and Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic and original King's Bounty so it should be at least very good.

I watched the VGA awards for the first time last night through their live stream. I kept cringing at all the bad jokes and things the hosts did during the awards. Overall I was disappointed by all the reveals. There were too many games with zombies in them. Have all game companies including Naughty Dog run out of ideas? I love zombies as the next person but c'mon! Ugh.

Well... That was the most boring VGA I've seen in a few years...

I just caught the end of the show... but checked out some of the trailers... the one that really impressed was the full trailer for "The last of us"... it looks kind of Walking Dead inspired, but the graphics... OMG... Naughty Dog has outdone themselves!
Diablo 3 also looked incredible!

This was the most embarrassing VGAs ever. A couple minutes for Miyamoto then people biting cupcakes off of a little treadmill. This show went full retard.

Everyone knows the VGAs are a complete joke, but I'm glad to see Bastion get some recognition. I mean wow, did not expect it to win 3 awards.

I guess it was too much to hope it could take on Minecraft, but best song, best soundtrack, and best downloadable game aint too bad for a humble little game from a fresh new indie studio.

Super Mario 3D Land won Best Mobile

Skyward Sword won Best Wii and best Motion.

The Legend of Zelda was the first inductee in the Spike Video Game Hall of Fame. Shiggy got a standing ovation when accepting the award.

As someone who generally prefers Japanese games, even I can admit that the only reason why Skyward Sword won those awards is because those are the two things Western developers don't give two shits about: The Wii and motion controls. I still wonder why Sony even bothered with the Move when even they don't give a shit about it. The only good thing about the Move is Ken "I hate motion controls" Levine dying inside when Sony made him program the Move for Bioshock Infinite on PS3. :D

This is a lot more hate for the show than I expected.

I actually enjoyed it this year. Had some amazing trailers, good musical performances, and decent announcements. Solid show all around. It just bothers me though how they rush through three, sometimes four, categories in a row.

Well it wasnt as bad as the previous years and it seemed as though Spike is finally getting their act together but it still needs some work, eg get rid of most anticipated game.

I just want to say I love you for not using an apostrophe in the VGAs. That stuff drives me crazy. Bravo for correct punctuation.
