Every Metal Gear Solid game re-released. A surveillance camera? photo

We know what you're thinking. With at least two versions of every major console title out there already, what we need are even more Metal Gear Solid re-releases on the market. You're itching for it, especially with all the recent hoo-hah surrounding an eerily similar series, and Konami has the cure for your ailments. With the 20th anniversary of the series coming up, reissues of the entire MGS library, including handheld spin-off Portable Ops, are heading your way.

The listed prices are as follows:

Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation): 1500 yen ($12.35)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
(PlayStation 2): 1800 yen ($14.82)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
(PlayStation 2): 2800 yen ($23.05)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
(PSP): 2800 yen ($23.05)

Fans can also pick up all four games together for 6900 yen, which translates into $56.80. As of this time, it is not known if the games will have any extra content or even if it'll hit the States, though given the series' worldwide popularity, a western release is sure to come. "Metal Gear? ... it can't be."

If you mean the Gamecube one, Twin Snakes, then that was a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid

I don't see the problem with re-releases. It means a new generation can get into the stuff that made us the gamers we are today. MGS1 is still my favourite and definitely deserves another outing in light of these re-releases.

Where's the Final Fantasy remake/re-release moaning threads? :P

So are they re-released into the wild or is this one big pack?

Konami putting both Metal Gears and MGS1 on the 360 Live Arcade would make me a whole lot happier.

Man, I thought for a minute then they might be re-releasing them all in a pack for a next-generation console. Not with re-done graphics or anything, but it'd be nice to be able to play them all on one machine as a bundle (possibly all one disc if they can fit on today's UberDiscs).

I personally much prefer playing the GameCube remake of MGS1 (Twin Snakes), but it was sure confusing when I replayed all three games a while ago and had to transition from the GameCube controller to the PS2 controller.

It's really awesome being able to play through all three games with a fairly similar level of graphics though (MGS3 clearly edges Twin Snakes/MGS2 out), which can't be said for most venerable series. Just a shame you have to piss around with different consoles/controllers/memory cards/etc to do so.

:(((((

Personally I don't mind seeing all of them re-released in nice uniform boxes (MGS 1 PS1 box sorta makes unevens my game collection of my PS2 games shelf). Twins Snakes missing is a bit of a blow, although personally I did prefer the original.

I also back what others have mentioned- remakes of Metal Gear and Metal Gear: Solid Snake. I've never played through the original Metal Gear on MSX (I have no excuse now it's on Subsistence now though....), but have played through Metal Gear: Solid Snake on MSX2 emulator (before MGS3:S) and it is an amazing game. MGS has so much in common with it, it sort of is a remake with a different story, but even the story in Solid Snake is engaging and interesting. Definetly 2 remakes that would fit well on the Wii (using the Twin Snakes engine?).

Another thing- where the hell is Portable Ops 2, the first one didn't directly lead up to the formation of Outer Heaven at all- c'mon Kojima, I know you've got MGS4 and all, but you've got to complete the new backstory you've created!!

All the games should come on separate disks with extra booklets and the case should look like a C-ration or ammo box... or even a little upside down box with snakes legs poking out :D
