I still play EQ1.. its still by far the best MMO out IMO. So when I get into a MMO kick I load up my account and have a blast, been at it on and off since 1999.

used to play it back when it was fresh, never caught me, haven't played a MEMORPEGEH since I quit WoW 2 years ago, waiting for my dear friend The Old Republic.

I tried to play this about 6 months ago actually, but I just couldn't get over the gameplay hurdle. I'd have to change pretty much every key binding to make it worth my effort and I just didn't feel like the hassle. I loved EQ2 and still play it randomly, thought WoW was a waste of time, enjoyed FF11 and SWG at varying points in time, and wish an MMO would capture the feel of early Asheron's Call or Anarchy Online, which I think (again, early on) absolutely nailed what's so interesting about joining an online world.

Oh well. Here's hoping The Old Republic is at least worth a few month's of invested time and money. I'm kind of getting the impression I'll feel as ambivalent about is as I did Tabula Rasa.

Oh Everquest, you so 90s!

I played EQ in the middle of 2000 till about late 2001, after that I went on and off for a year. It was a ton of fun around that time. Just last year I started to play a bit on the EQ Mac server since it was very laid back and classic. Though that only lasted for a few months unfortunately.

I am surprised they are still making xpacs for original EQ to be honest, that must mean they have a decent enough player base for it though. Good for them and I'd love to see someones badass character they've had over all the years.

Those must be the last two guys still working on Everquest.

Everquest still has 16 active servers, so yes it's still kicking. In terms of content, you will literally never find a game like it ever again. Well over 500 unique zones I believe.

I tried to get back into it when they made a server that went back to the original release of EQ, and "released" the expansions at the same increments that they were originally released in, but I found that those who have stuck around are die-hards.

Shouldn't SOE start pooling its resources into EQ3 (Next is a dumb name)? I see potential problems if they're going to be working on content for three different games. EQ1 went on the decline since Luclin's release, and EQ2 is kind of a black sheep anyway.

Then again, there already may be a problem considering they seemingly keep releasing a new MMO every single year now. EQ 1, 2, 3, DCU and Planetside 1 & 2 is a bit overkill for one dev to be handling. SWG could have still been saved if they would just own up to the fact that the game needs to rewind about 6 years.
