EverQuest may not be as genre-dominatingly popular as Wolrd of Warcraft, but the Sony Online developed series isn't something to be scoffed at in any way. With two games in the series under their belt the EverQuest devs have just slightly revealed what the third will be at Fan Faire 2010, the annual Sony Online event.
During SOE president John Smedley's community address he discussed some of EverQuest 2's upcoming features before revealing what SOE is calling EverQuest Next (working title). The screenshot above (yes, screenshot) is from said game, which is said to be more of a re-imagining of the series than a direct progression from EQ 1 and 2. Few other details were revealed as the team is very early in development on the game, but we do know that there will be a focus on Player vs. Player gameplay and a more engaging battle system.
I've made my lack of love for MMOs readily apparent almost every weekend, so I'll leave the commentary to you guys. Assume I've placed a generic question about beating World of Warcraft right here.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
ofc...yes WoW is so hard to master...i guess you never played Ultima or FFXI?
Then I realized it wasn't and can't really make out what it was. Either way, I guess this is worth putting on the radar. Loved me some EQ back in the day.
I was joking when I said that stuff about WoW, hell I've never played a serious MMORPG. I guess that wasn't very clear.
Also, it seems that the PC is getting more MMOs then polished PC games these days. Thats....sad?
Its a working title. Its even mentioned in the article if you cared enough to read it.
I'm probably skipping Cataclysm... WoW Is becoming like a bad sitcom where they start introducing aliens from space and porn star neighbors in a desperate attempt to restore the ratings of bygone days.
