Ever wonder what MechWarrior would look like in CryEngine 2? photo

If there's one thing we could always afford to talk about more, it's mods. Earlier today, I was greeted by an email message regarding a mod for Crysis and Crysis: Warhead called MechWarrior: Living Legends.

As some of you may know, I've never gotten into the MechWarrior series, but it doesn't take a dedicated fan to see that giant robots running around in gorgeous CryEngine 2-powered locales is a mighty good thing. The mod, which Wandering Samurai Studios has been working on for more than two years now, recently got a new trailer.

The footage (viewable after the break) is all in-game and taken directly from pre-beta multiplayer playtests. It seems I wasn't the only one impressed by what I saw -- apparently, Crytek hired MechWarrior: Living Legends' lead developers for their work on the project.

The mod, according to its creators, who call themselves "hardcore fans" of the classic MechWarrior games, "features large scale combined arms mutliplayer gameplay" using "battlemechs, tanks, aerospace fighters, and battle-armor [from the] BattleTech/MechWarrior universe."

Like I said, MechWarrior is a series that's unfamiliar to me, so I'm going to nod my head agreeably.

I didn't know you guys covered mods. I mean there's nothing about neotokyo; seems the only ones that get talked about are remakes!

Where's the neotokyo love? It's been at the top of moddb's "popular mods" for a few weeks now (following release).

We don't, usually, which is why I want to start giving them more coverage. If you've got anything that's somewhat new or relevant, by all means send it in to our tips line.

yea I did send tips a few times about it. I would really like to see a big name blog give it some attention since it is better than most retail games I've played. The level of polish is astounding.

I came twice. I have more hope for this game than I do the MS version.

Wow thanks a lot for featuring us Grim!

I should say though that a lot of the mech animations are still a work in progress, but we are getting there!

Looks good, sadly I don't have a PC that will run it.

Hell, Neotokyo was even mentioned as part of a Steam update from VALVe, so you know it's news.

hehe, ya I think it's funny how NeoTokyo, a brand that has actually been around for awhile. has been getting ignored, even though it has moved to Source and is better than ever. It suffers only from being less stellar than CounterStrike and apparently being un-news worthy.

For everyone bitching about the lack of NeoTokyo coverage, start a goddamn cBlog about it and if you do a good enough job, then maybe it will get that coverage you so desperately want it to have. I Googled that shit and didn't see anything all that mindblowing...maybe letting us know why it is newsworthy besides "It's totally newsworthy because it's been in development...for a while..." would do you wonders instead of complaining about the fucker.

Amazing. Seeing several of the classic non-clan 'mechs made me happy.

I really love the detail in the space environments. Overall this is done pretty damn well and could feed that much needed Mechwarrior itch that many old Mechwarrior fans have been hoping for...at least until MW5 comes out.(assuming it doesn't disappoint)

You can make a PC that runs this for about $500-700. That's one of the beauties of a shitty economy. Hardware becomes dirt cheap.

I've never played Mechwarrior, but that mod looks pretty damn impressive.
