I doubt there's a single one of you fine readers needing to be told that the PS3 is way too expensive. That's old news and gamers have been squealing it since the dawn of time. However, when the head of a major third party starts saying it, there should be cause to take note.
This is exactly what's happened, as Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, has said quite frankly that Sony need to cut their prices if they wish to stay at the top of the mountain.
While speaking at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York, Guillemot said "They have to decrease the price quite significantly," of Sony, and that failure to do so would net the company "a different market share ... lower than before."
We, the market, know that already, but the news of course isn't in what's being said, but who's saying it. This is a huge third party coming out of the woodwork to call Sony on their marketing strategy. As much of a global truth as it is, it's still not something you'd want the Ubisoft CEO declaring in public, were you in the shoes of the accused.
In other news, Peter Moore laughed so hard in the mirror at this that the glass shattered with the onslaught of decibels echoing from his mouth, sending shards into his face that cut him to sheer ribbons. Moore was too busy slapping his thighs with glee to notice.

FUCKING BUUUUUUUURRRRRN!
2) Quiet, you.
seriously though, with all the PS3s lyin' around I'd consider buying one if the price dropped around the $250 to $300 rang-...wait... no I wouldn't.
actually, I'm sad too cause my ds broke and english ds's cost too much....:(
Admitting you did things in MS Paint makes you look l33t around here. Admitting you used paint shop pro makes you look like you were too lazy to go download Photoshop off of The Pirate Bay.
Not to knock PSPro...
The rest of us just draw with Sharpies on our ass and take a digital photo.
Here's the dtoid logo, obviously...
Looks pretty realistic, no?
It's Yves Guillemot, with a "t".
Otherwise, yes, yes, and yes.
haha, awesome. now take another picture, except this time, draw some photo realistic herpes on your ass....unless you already have some, that would work too.
And seriously, Jim, way to half ass it, Paint Shop Pro or no. ;)
I live to serve.
DOWNLOADS.
O_o either you are an amazing artist, or you badly need some Prep-H...bravo!
It's a fucking news story. Get over it.
Sonyhater: O shit son, 3/10 of my posts are bad things about Sony!? OH NOS! That's just like you said, isn't it? That's NEARLY EVERY post bashing Sony, right? Haha, like I said, if you're going to attack me, get your fucking story straight, son. You'll never be a paid writer like this apparent "fanboy" if you don't know what facts are.
For the record, I'm not a fanboy, and I think that term is thrown around with a pathetic amount of ease and lack of understanding on DToid. I will probably get a PS3 one day, when the price is down. Right now, it's too expensive, and I'm not going to apologise for stating a simple opinion.
As for the Sony Games Day replies, perhaps you might pull your head out of your ass, wipe the shit from your eyes and actually read everything I wrote. I had negative comments about the games I wasn't keen on but - OMGZORZ - positive comments about the games I liked the look of. I remember defending Heavenly Sword and calling one of the other games gorgeous. But no, I mindlessly bash everything Sony does, rite?
You clearly didn't read this report, because the story isn't ABOUT the price of the PS3, it's about the fact that Ubisoft have voiced the opinion. That's the story, not the price. The fact you stormed in here going "we've known this since November rawr rawr rawr," would indicate you were too busy jerking yourself off over how awesome you think you are to actually read my post.
My second ever news story here was about the PS3's Firmware update, and I was quite positive about it. Your asinine comments seriously have no legs, so if I were you, I'd return to the drawing board and construct a new way to get attention for yourself, because this particular venture into the realm of shit stirring is a massive FAIL.
Like on the Xbox 360, right? Moron. The only thing that M$ needs to do to counter the advantage blue ray gives them is to make certain large games HD manditory. Then you could install packages from the disc, and in addition to having a much larger space for textures and the like, they'll load faster too. Of course, there's going to be an install period the first time you drop it in, but after that MUCH faster load times than Blu-Ray. (And before you fanboys light me up, too, I know that HDD transfers are faster than DVD-9, and I don't rightly care about DVD-9 vs Blu-Ray.) If I have to load 30GB of textures and assorted data, I'd much rather do it from HDD than optical media of any sort, THAT'S the problem with Blu-Ray. The capacity is disproportionately large relative to it's access times. I'M STILL NOT SAYING IT'S SLOWER THAN DVD. (Even though the jury is out on that. You won't know for sure until arstechnica gets a blu-ray burner and does some benchmarking. For now all we have is ITW anecdotal evidence.) Remember how long it took to copy that DVD to your hard drive before you even started compressing it to burn it again? That's 8GB, tops. Now, how about reading 5 times that amount of data? Games that start to top out the Blu-Ray capacity are going to have load times from hell. You're going to start it up and have to make a sandwich because it needs to load for ten minutes. That much capacity on optical media is only good for video and archival data. Period. It may be an awesome HD format, but add random access, and pow, it's basically worthless, because it's so much slower than installing to an HD.
What this shows is concern from 3rd party developers/publishers, the very same group that caused the PS1 and PS2 to thrive. Things aren't all rosy when 3rd parties start to look elsewhere to make profits. Look what happened to the GameCube or Dreamcast without strong 3rd party support.
Yes, PS3 expensive, for consumers AND developers/publishers. Sony should realize that and, as Yves says, "decrease the price quite significantly".
And that was my motivation. I found it interesting so I posted it. To me, the CEO of Ubisoft criticisng a system, ANY system, is interesting. It wasn't to get at Sony, to make trolling point about the situation.
I don't have an agenda, I just like games. I aim to be equally critical and equally praiseworthy of everything that falls under my steely gaze. Am I a fan of Sony? No and I'll admit that, but I have the balls and integrity to treat them without bias and praise them accordingly. For instance, I appreciate how commited to Europe they are. Were there news about that, you damn right I'd post it with a smile on my face.
Whether you like Summa or hate him, I ain't Summa. Summa is Summa. Jim is... well, who the fuck IS Jim Sterling?
I wouldn't be complainin' to much, As long as someone balances out the wii/ps3 hate I'm fine with it. It wasn't that much like Summa in that it didn't have an I'm right your wrong attitude.
I don't like it when things are two one sided, as long as there is someone balancing out Summa's gibberish by attacking another console besides the wii i'm fine with it.
