Even more Resistance 2 details? photo

Last month, Qais gave us some juicy new details on the upcoming sequel to the PS3 title Resistance: Fall of Man. Now, a few more details, including some story elements, come to us from PlayThree.

[Ed's note: You may choose to skip the next paragraph if you'd like to avoid the story details of this title or its predecessor.]

It seems that the San Francisco Bay Bridge, as well as other American landmarks, will set the stage for Resistance 2. A new feature in Official PlayStation Magazine UK says that the game starts where the first one left off. In Iceland, people infected by mutant DNA have healing and telepathic abilities. They become a task force called the Sentinels, each with their own abilities and weapons.

Last time around, we heard a bit about multiplayer action and character classes, and now lead designer Colin Munson gives more details on co-op gameplay. This time around it looks like teamwork between players is the focus.

"Eight players is that sweet team size. It's enough so that you pretty much know the people on your team but it's big enough to let new players in," says Munson.

"The initial bridge attack forces players to deal with danger from multiple angles. The Titans meanwhile require the squad to divide and conquer, as these behemoths can easily take out an entire squad with one hit from a rocket cannon."

Lastly, the previously mentioned 60-player multiplayer will be divided into 2 teams of 30. And then, as Qais mentioned earlier, each team will be divided into smaller squads with their own objectives.

Hit the jump for bulletpoints of more features.

* There are 3 co-op character classes. Soldier, medic, and special-ops trooper. Each can collect XP points to improve their skills (ala Call of Duty 4.)

* The Splitter is a new weapon, a mini-gun that can spray a barrage of rounds

* Special abilities can be 'charged up' by killing aliens. If your shields are down, kill more aliens to recharge.

* The medic will shoot a special gun on the injured

* The new stalker has been significantly upgraded in detail level and functionality. It now features a big red eye at the front.

* New super-bosses. Giant size. That arent taken down the same way as other enemies are taken down. They have full AI, and dynamic animation.

I'm more excited for resistance 2 than for killzone 2.
Those guys at insomniac deserve a medal for making 3 great games in two year's time!

Sounds interesting, not interesting enough for me to buy a PS3 but I wonder how 60 player multiplayer would turn out.

now lets only hope they fix the games pacing and fun. I still haven't beaten the single player game of the first resistance because of the crushing boredom i felt. Multiplayer sounds fun though.

I hope they feature the destruction of almost every US landmark present during the time period of the game.

Hmm... Is that my first-ever reason to buy a PS3, that I see up there? Hmm... could be...

I love the environments and textures in the first game. It would of been nice for Liverpool to be included as a level seeing as Sony has offices there but yet again we're over looked. The PS3 and my home city have a lot of similarities, biased views and negative attitudes against us. So misunderstood.

I finally went back and beat the first game on Saturday night. I didn’t stop playing because I found the story boring or anything — if anything, its alternate reality of an alien invasion of Europe was intriguing, and fighting the creatures with the few Brits left was epic — but I hadn’t beaten it by the time God of War II came out, and then I never went back to Resistance afterwards. I’m really interested to see what they do with the sequel, and so far, I’m impressed by what they’ve revealed. I have faith in Insomniac!

The first game is still one of the best games available for the PS3. I can't wait to see a trailer of this game in action. I hope that will convince everybody to finally stop talking about Killzone 2 and look at a game that isn't just hype.

Definintely a day one purchase. The single player and multiplayer on the 1st RFOM is amazing. If it weren't for Warhawk it'd still be my multiplayer game of choice, but Warhawk eats all my PS3 time the last few months. That and pixel junk monsters (which the wife loves to play too). Just wish that Warhawk adopted all of RFOM's communication set ups, and team building.

The medics heal you with a gun? Sounds like they're giving a nod to the C&C: Renegade medics. Ah, those were the good old days... those multiplayer maps were epic.
