Even more Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s tracks revealed; Sweet not amused photo

A few minutes ago, we received a press release from Activision detailing the latest eight songs to be added to the tracklist of their 1980s-themed Guitar Hero expansion, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s. Here's the rundown:

·    Hold On Loosely (as made famous by .38 Special)
·    No One Like You (as made famous by Scorpions)
·    Only a Lad (as made famous by Oingo Boingo)
·    Radar Love (as made famous by White Lion)
·    Ballroom Blitz (as made famous by Krokus)
·    The Warrior (by Scandal)
·    What I Like About You (as made famous by The Romantics)
·    Wrath Child (as made famous by Iron Maiden)

Things are looking better here than they did previously, but we still don't have much faith in the direction this whole thing is going. I realize the game mechanics are too simple to screw up, but it seems like their track listings are intentionally neutered specifically so they can include certain songs in the main Guitar Hero series. When you combine this handicap with how intensely terrible the popular music of the 80s was, you're almost guaranteed a game with less cultural value than watching The Breakfast Club in your underwear.

Hit the jump for the full release.

@xylophone

It's "made famous by" not "originally by".

My ass White Lion made Radar Love famous. Every time I've ever heard that song on the radio, it's the Golden Earring original. In fact, is White Lion actually remembered for anything other than their cover of the Transformers theme?

'Ghostbusters' Ray Parker Jr, that appears not to be on the list. Shame really.

@ Dan,

But 'Ballroom Blitz' WAS made famous by the Sweet (or Crucial Taunt if your a Wayne's World fan...) and the same with 'Radar Love' and Golden Earring... So what they are really saying is these are just cheap shitty covers, because we couldn't afford the real songs! Man that blows, nothing worse than bad covers of good songs (i.e. Van Halen - You Really Got Me)...

This is the kind of music that the CIA uses to torture people in black sites. Even if this were coming out for the 360, you couldn't get me near that crap with a fucking ten foot barge pole.

I'd rather eat afterbirth pate and sleep with roseanne barr than spend time actually learning how to play that atrocious garbage.

(Nex: as for 80s pop music, it wasn't all bad: Talking Heads).

Wait. Wait. They got a song by the Scorpions, and...it's not "Rock You Like a Hurricane?" Are they trying to piss people off?

well they can't put the originals in because then it wouldnt be the 80's since both Ballroom Blitz and Radar Love are from the 70's and where is Back In Black?

You think AC/DC's gonna start licensing their music? After some 30 years of saying "No!" to much more lucrative deals?

That'll happen right around the time Neversoft manages to get Stairway to Heaven and Battery on the next GH game.

Look guys, Radar Love was made famous by Golden Earring back in '73 when it first came out. They obviously chose to use the White Lion remake (with it's shredding guitar solo) so that they could slip it into the 80's edition. It's more fitting for Guitar Hero because of said solo anyway.

I'm guessing Ballroom Blitz is the same way.

Ballroom Blitz was released by the Sweet in 1974, since this is an 80's game they had to pick the band that made in more famous in the 80's, which was Krokus. They released the song in 1984. My favorite use of Ballroom Blitz is the sample the Beastie Boys used in 'Hey Ladies'.

I am excited for Hold on Loosely and The Warrior.

I don't understand why they are even releasing this 80's edition, but they can still save face if they use any track by Huey Lewis and the News.

UUGH!!! That goddam song by the Romantics was used in Bud Light commercials all through the 80s. I've heard it enough times alredy in my life. How many of these bands actually feature "Guitar Heros" on the axe? Maiden, and...that's it! CC Deville is not a Guitar Hero!!!

The 80s were the Golden Age of Metal. Why are all these poser bands still making money off shit that sucked 20 years ago?!?!?!? Where's the Metallica Megadeth Anthrax Slayer Exodus Overkill Testament Mercyful Fate Death Angel Celtic Frost Queensryche Ozzy (w/ Randy Rhodes, now there's a true fucking GUITAR HERO!!!)???!!!??!!!

@rdaneel72

You know, it is possible to be a guitar hero without playing metal. I'd consider Hendrix, Clapton, BB King, Robert Johnson, and other blues and rock guitarists much bigger heroes than some of the bands you've listed.

I don't know what's sadder; the song list on this crappy new GH, or a bunch of fanboy's arguing about 80's metal and hair bands.

I would like to see some Molly Hatchet or BTO or some more bands from the 70's. They had way better guitar riffs and solo's. Glad to see 38 Special!

But this isn't Neversoft, this is Red Octane's last game of the francise, IIRC. Thus the two masters vs. GH3's 10ish (so far).

YES!!!

Hold On Loosely (as made famous by .38 Special)
No One Like You (as made famous by Scorpions)
Ballroom Blitz (as made famous by Krokus^H^H^H^H^H^HSweet)
What I Like About You (as made famous by The Romantics)

I agree that Rock You Like A Hurricane would have been a better choice, though. :(
