EVE Online

EVE Online releasing 20th expansion in November

Power to the people

CCP has announced that EVE Online will be getting a new expansion on November 19, 2013 called Rubicon. This expansion will be aimed at adding some chaos into the game to rattle the cages of anyone who has been getting overly comfortable in their little corner of space.

One of the more interesting things the studio mentions is that players will be able to control taxation for planetary Interaction in high-security space, which is something that up until now has been controlled by one of the four non-player controlled empires.

Planetary Interaction is a system that lets players harvest resources from planets, and all of the goods have to be moved to a customs office before the players can access them. Now players can destroy existing computer-owned customs offices, and build their own and tax anyone who wants to work on that planet. I'm sure that this will cause massive amounts of chaos and insanity, which fits right into EVE.

On the interface side of things, a new system called Interbus is being introduced to help players plan out how they want to train new skills and progress their character. Right now planning a character is often done with the aid of a third-party program like EVEMon. Planning a character is something that can require you to plan out skill training for months, sometimes years in advance, so having a built-in solution will be a really nice streamlining feature. This change will also tie into some adjustments made to the game's certificate system, which shows what jobs, skills, and roles a player has the skills to perform.

Interbus looks really nice, and a feature like this has been really missing from the game. Part of the craziness of EVE has been that players have always had to turn to outside sources to figure out how to play the game, which gives it a type of niche appeal but it hurts the amount of new players that stick with the game. The more people can figure out what they are doing while they are in the game, the better.

A new deployable unit, called a Siphon, will be able to be planted outside of player-owned starbases. This little guy will sit outside and STEAL things from other stations. This will add more insanity and chaos, which EVE players love. Other new units will be a deployable base that can be dropped in space for quick-fitting changes and maintenance, an automatic tractor beam and looting device that will pull in destroyed ships for salvaging, and a deployable jammer for null-sec fun.

Warp speeds will be adjusted to effect acceleration into warp, meaning smaller ships will be able to jump into warp quicker and bigger ships will be much slower at escaping. Right now if you go to jump at the same second as another ship, you will both go the same speed and arrive at the same time regardless of the size and speed of the ships. This new change will mean that faster ships will be able to catch up to, and even pass, slower ships.

All of these changes sound exciting to me, and I can't wait to have insane pilots come disrupt my peaceful mining operations.

Heading off to Spiel in a bit. A whole lot of games there, just of the cardboard variety. I love me some board games.

Finally finished The Witcher 3. Definitely one of the best games I've played in my 30 years or so of gaming. Now onward to Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain.

MGS Online Day 3. I have 3 character up to level 10 now, one in each class. They're all pretty handy, but I do miss the scout's mark speed the most on other classes.

The SW: Battlefront is pretty and has great sound design, but the gameplay is so shallow and has seemingly no depth! If the full game is like this I will be disappointed.

Dear Playboy: Love your video game coverage, but how about you start making some topless unboxing videos? Seeing someone unwrap a copy of Call of Duty is boring. Seeing a topless Playmate unwrap a copy of anything is awesome!

In happier news, Level-5 is already talking Yo-Kai Watch 2's Western release, and better/worse yet, they're considering amiibo support for the series! And hey, if they can't get Jibanyan into Smash, that'd be one way to get the West's attention.

I drank a glass of Ovaltine for the first time in years today. It was nice. Like drinking a glass of my childhood, complete with ignorance, embarrassing angst, tears (so many tears) and night terrors. Ah, the good 'ol days.

[img][/img] This is just depressing. Digital classics on consoles are such a great idea, but it's like not a single company wants to really go through with it.

I recently beat Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow again, but this time I played on Hard mode from scratch. Outside of dying a few times due to me being an idiot, and enemies hitting harder, it was actually easy. Like really easy.

Just tried 'The Last Of Us' on PSNow Trial, only to be told... 'Something went wrong. Try again.' Game-appropriate error message or quickie plot-summary?

I hate when people say crap like "I admit that [thing] in games is problematic, but I still enjoy it" because it's an underhanded way of contradicting your own views while convincing yourself that you aren't a hypocrite.

Well shit. I knew I was more than likely going to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront (cause you know, giant Star Wars nerd and all) but holy cow, the beta is fucking great! I need the full game like, now.
