EVE Online dev blog talks about Crucible 1.1 photo

A recent dev blog on the EVE Online website goes over all of the changes in the most recent patch, Crucible 1.1. There is a bunch of the usual bug fixes, tweaks, and polishing, but it's not merely updates to content from Crucible; problems with the core game are being addressed as well.

CCP doesn't pad its blogs with professional speak and bull crap. They just cut to the point and talk like the rest of us. The blog post is worth reading just for enjoyment's sake.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • We’ve rebalanced small, medium and large Null ammo. I came back from vacation and Tallest had done this. He’s a pretty cool dude.
  • We’ve buffed some of the modules launched in Crucible. You can now whine about how overpowered they are.
  • When one of your friends logs on and get an annoying pop-up with his picture, you can now click the picture and start a conversation, telling him how annoying the pop-up is.
  • The skills list now has a filter box so you can track down your individual skills. This is pretty great if you have a lot of them.
  • Starbase fuel notifications are now shown in your calendar. You know why? Because it makes goddamn sense, that’s why.
  • The watchlist now holds 15 people and you can drag and drop to re-arrange them. If you don’t have any friends, this isn’t relevant to you.
  • We’ve added autocomplete and search hints to the asset search function from Crucible. SEARCHING HAS SUDDENLY BECOME REALLY EXCITING. Or not, but you know what I mean.

There are more changes in the full dev diary, and there is even some advice to help you get rid of mosquitoes.

I wish I had the time and patience to get into this game. Too bad I have a life. :(

@Achromatis

You can play the game effectively for free if you farm up a large amount of ''ISK''(Eve's currency) so you can buy PLEX, which, can be sold for ISK, or be used for 30-day additional game time.

It's legit, don't worry. CCP introduced it to annihilate RL ISK farmers/sellers.

The amount of time you would have to pour into this game to reach a point where you could pay for your subscription with in-game ISK is like many many months of playing. You have to set up your financial system, your trade routes, whatever method you use to make ISK takes a while.

This game is great for some people, and I respect that. But it's a huge huge HUGE timesink, with slow and infrequent moments of action. Don't go there unless you really know what you are getting in to.

Isn't this game just for bored millionaires?

I always want to play EVE, but it just seems so daunting. Ever EVE player I have met has literally talked me out of playing it. They themselves love it, but they acknowledge it is not for someone who wants to play only a few times a month. Maybe if Dust is a good game I can still play in the EVE universe without the seriousness.

The reputation this game has for being a massive time sink and incredibly hard is not completely deserved. The main problem is that there is so much to do, and many players feel like they must master it all right away. The best way to get into this game is to play with someone who is already into it. If anyone is interested in having their hand held through the free trial period, go ahead and PM me. I would be happy to help you find out if EVE is for you. Man, that sounded like a sales pitch. But seriously, this game is sweet!

I hope so. Trillions of dollars in debt isn't going to get paid off by helping old people.

EVE is easy, there are just a lot of gameplay options available. You don't have to do everything the game has to offer to enjoy yourself. It is a true "sandbox" environment. It requires a certain amount of patience to enjoy, though. Certainly not a "smash 1,2,3,4 repeat to win" MMO like people are normally used to.

The one thing I did not like about Crucible was the change on the search function. It went from a drop down list to needing to write a search function line.

This may seem trivial to those who do it, but to those who learned computers by clicking the picture, it is harder and less functional.

I can only hope the update helps fix this.
