European Xbox 360 price cut confirmed photo

Microsoft has been quiet about a European price cut since it slashed Xbox 360 costs in America and Japan, but it seems that The 'Soft has finally come clean and announced that Europe is getting the 360 for less this week.

The Arcade version will go from €199.99 to €179.99 (£129.00), the Pro from €269.99 to €239.99 (£169.99) while the Elite will now sell for €299.99 (£229.99), down from €369.99.

Just like in North America, Microsoft now has the cheapest current-gen SKU in Europe. With the Wii retailing still at £179.99 in the UK, both the Arcade and Pro 360 models cost less than Nintendo's lil' white waggle box. Will it be enough to give MS the edge this Christmas? Possibly over Sony, but I can't see the mainstream crowd ditching their Wiimotes just yet.

The price cut is in effect from this Friday. Pretty red circles are still provided free of charge.

"ill it be enough to give MS the edge this Christmas?"
Nintendos marketing/promotion was spot on.
I still haven't seen Ms done anything proper to reach the masses.

It will give a boost, but Wiis will continue to sell like Cakes.Hot cakes.

just my 7 cents

I suppose this means the next Xbox console is out 2010?

I wouldn't bet on that ... it's just that now they can finally make them for so cheap they can afford to cut the price. It's a really aggressive push in Europe and Japan, for I know a lot of people that have hold off because of the price. Now that it only costs marginally more than a PS2, it's a pretty good deal and during the holidays, many a kid will most likely find a green box under their tree. People are realising that the PS2 is kind of old and want to get something that has a bit more future mileage. If MS cuts it off like the original box though, it could get messy.

I'm not sure that a tenner will change the situation much when the PS3 sells as well despite being nearly twice the price but we'll see, it's a strange market.

@ PeZ: the lack of support for the original xbox was what turned me off on the 360 in the first place, and why i bought a wii, i loved my xbox especially the odd world titles

backwards compatibility is the future! (sounds funny but its true)

anyways, i want to play fable and a few other exclusives so i figured i'd take the plunge at this price

This Friday?! Holy crap that's a lot earlier than I was expecting. Might actually consider getting one in if I have the cash.
