Euro retailer begins to cut Rock Band prices already photo

Harmonix may think that we maligned European gamers are getting a good deal when we're expected to drop £180 for a full Rock Band set, but the people actually selling the games are starting to realize how ridiculous it is to charge more than a Wii for a single videogame and a Singstar microphone.

Play has already sliced £30 off the 'Band in a Box' set and sheared a tenner away from the game disc's asking price, making for a slightly more acceptable total price of £139.99. It's only slightly acceptable, however, because there is no way in an eternity of Satan's buggery that I would be caught dead paying £139.99 for a game.

Waiting this long for a game, only to be expected to pay the kind of money David Bowie would charge for one handjob is not cool, in my book. I'll take the Bowie Shuffle every time.

I have a really hard time justifying $60 for a video game much less $160.

There are rumours that the European instruments are second-hand refurbs from the US. Way to go! I played the game in HMV the other day, and it was a lot of fun, but there is no way I am spending that much.

Isn't that around $280? If so that's insane.

Yes a pound is roughly twice the value of a dollar.

And I imagine that the rumor about second hand instruments was started because of M$'s cheap ass.

to be fair about the whole 280 dollar thing a bit of that is because the dollar plummeted against the £
if you look at an index of what it can buy you say like big macs (economists use them all the time)
some of it can be seen to be purchasing power parity diferences http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac_Index wikilink
yes we are being ripped off but as money is magic and illusion anyway you cant just do straight conversions

If any Europeans here are still interested in the game, please read this.

Yeaha a number of retailers happen to have it sitting around the £140 mark, shame they have to take to hit because it was priced way to high in the first place.

only way im getting this is second hand or after a hefty price drop. Not even an ad campaign promising bowie handjobs could convince me otherwise. Well that and i have no friends to play it with.

Yeah I saw that play did this aswell as a few other retailers but £140 is still too much for the full package (game included) especially when you get a mic that isn't need (since you can use the XBOX live headset).

Wow, so according to google...

180 British pounds = $356.28 so basically 2x as stated above.

That is freaking insane, I paid $180 in the USA for Rockband last fall and that required me to drop any kind of rational thinking before I was able to purchase it. I thought it was tough at $180 to create some kind of asinine justification for a plastic Playskool band set.

Wake me when it's 100 euro or something for the whole set. I played the guitar/singing parts a bit with my gh2 guitar, and it's a pretty cool game. Just very easy on expert and you'll probably get bored with it within 3 weeks... definitely not worth 140 fucking pounds :(

Drksan, there are a lot videos in the post, maybe that is the reason why you browser froze.

Also, there was a survey done a little while back that asked the Rock Band audience if lower the standard price of Rock Band to 150 dollars in America was a good idea. So, there is a strong chance that a price drop is in the works.

PP, did you take into account drums or DLC? That really expands the life of this game tremendously. If you want something hard, download Thrasher. You will be amazed.

Apparently, high street retailer HMV does the whole package for £150 with 2100 points, which is pretty cool really.
