Euro MGS4 PS3 bundle sucks even harder: No gunmetal grey for Europeans

Euro MGS4 PS3 bundle sucks even harder: No gunmetal grey for Europeans photo
     Europe
It's been a few hours since the games industry took a sh*t on Europe, so I'd say we're due for another story about how we get the shaft, wouldn't you? We already talked about how the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle would omit the DualShock 3 controller for Europeans, but the gimping of the deal hasn't stopped there -- we will be getting no limited edition PlayStation 3 either.

While American readers can be safe in the knowledge that they will have DualShock 3s and gunmetal grey PlayStations, we Europeans will be shortchanged with standard Sixaxis controllers and bog-standard black hardware. Konami has said that Europe "won't ever" get the special grey PS3.

And gamers in this territory should pay European prices for this ... why, exactly?

Who needs gun metal when you got vanilla white!..... we still get that bundle right?

I know the price of the gun metal bundle is enough to make me not buy it in America, I can't imagine how much they'd charge if it did make it over there. This does suck though. I just want to find a PS3 to play MGS 4 on, I'm tired of having to study for a damn doctoral exam to understand what comes with each bundle and which sku can do what.

But who still buys retail games in Europe when you can leverage the week US dollar and import them saving at least €20 (including shipping)?

I am not connected to the video game industry in any way, shape, or form outside of the fact that I play the games they produce, but all the same, on behalf of American gamers who don't have to tolerate this sort of bullshit: I'm sorry, Euro gamers.

Wow. First Nintendo BSes their way through Europe's Brawl delay, then the whole refurbished 360 rumor, and not this?

You Euros gotta start getting loud. REAL loud. Give the video game industry what for!

Vote with your money. STOP buying their overpriced junk, I you all buy it, they will continue to overprice. Simple as that.

If it’s any consolation, the gunmetal gray limited edition PS3 bundle isn’t going to be nearly worth the price of admission by my calculations:

MGS 4 Special Edition PS3 Bundle
glossy black 80 GB PS3 (it includes software-based BC, 4 USB ports, and the flash media readers — SD, CompactFlash, MemoryStick), MGS 4, and a DualShock 3 controller
$499

MGS 4 Limited Edition PS3 Bundle
gunmetal gray 40 GB PS3 (no PS2 BC, but it'll still play PS1 games; 2 USB ports; no flash media readers), the Special Edition of MGS 4 (retail price $84.99), and a Sixaxis controller
$599

In other words, it makes ZERO sense to pick up the LE bundle just for a different color.

I didn't even realise that it was supposed to be a limited edition PS3. It doesn't really even look that different.

So um Jim...when are you planning on moving across the pond? Sucks for the Euro gamers that might have been looking forward to this. But I read on the cblogs that Konami's site doesn't even let you order it, instead it gives you an error part of the way through the pre-order process.

I'm having an extremely difficult time reconciling what potential logic they could have made use of in these decisions but I would have better luck getting Jack Thompson to praise gaming. What is with Sony Europe? I live in Canada and am not affected by this but that doesn't mean I don't feel for my European brethren. This is all just completely unacceptable and illogical. Is Sony Europe run by a bunch of mental defectives or something?

...

Yes, yes they are.

If the color was the only difference I'd go with the black one anyway. But if Samit Sarkar is right then the black one will have larger hard drive, 2 extra USB ports and backwards compatibility for 100$ less, I'd go for that one even if it only gets me a sixaxis.

There is no reason for that bullshit. What, is the gray paint made of stem cells? Also rumble tech is fetus heads on motors.

I knew this was going to happen. it just cost way too much to import ps3(still labeled as a gaming electronic) for sale in the Europe. so I kinda knew the limited edition would int be included over there since they are getting the bundle. it's just not cost effective.

Ngh. Seriously, is it really that hard to ship some in grey? Really?

Granted, at least it saves any indecision about picking one up when it was somewhat gimped anyway.

The discontinued controller is ridiculous, however while I'd normally sympathize and say that the other part sucks - different color paint jobs on consoles driving up price is complete shit.
