Euro commish wags finger at MS; Microsoft preps moonraker cannon ... photo

Engadget has been standing on the corner all day yelling "Extra! Extra!", and after throwing rocks at them and screaming obscenities, we finally deigned to leave the Towertoid to see what exactly was going on. It turns out that European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Meglena Kuneva, has bees in her bonnet over all of the alleged cases of Microsoft's Xbox 360 system slicing rings into disc-based media!

You may recall a short time ago when a Dutch television program, by the naamwoord Kassa, aired an exposé that did a very convincing job of demonstrating the destructive capabilities of the MS console, to much outrage and gnashing of teeth. With that impetus to back her up, Ms. Kuneva has called out The Great Redmond Machine, giving them one week to respond to the claims, and to demonstrate what they have been doing to rectify the problem.

Ms. Kuneva freely admits that she doesn't have the power to force a recall, or to fly, but she also says that she will continue to look for legal means through which she can hold Microsoft accountable for what seems to be a widespread issue throughout the known world.

[Eddy, the check is in the mail.]

Meh. My 360 plays games and doesn't scratch them. If she has sand up her vagina because that one did, that's her problem. It's her fault for being foreign anyway.

Actually, things like that are why I love the internet.

I heard a few cases of this back when this 360 launched, but I'm not sure I'd call it a widespread issue.

Well, you could always clean your discs with toothpaste or send your console back to get it fixed and shit. What a bitch.

I had this exact problem. The console sits on its side, never moves and has never been bumped. But for some reason when playing Marvel UA it would sctrach the disk.

I went through 3 replacement games. MS evetually repaired the console, since then no probs.

Funny thing was it was only that game that got scratched. GOW, dead rising were fine. It was manufactured in March 2006

According to my religion, The Church of Google, "Google" is a noun and must not be used as a verb. I am offended by your misuse.

hmmmmm... I bought my X360 on November 06 and so far I have seen 2 "Rings of Death" but were resolved by turning off and on the console. The first RoD I got was from playing the original Xbox Mercenaries that freeze ramdomly after 1-2 hours of play and it you leave it on hoping/praying that it work again screen go black and rings appear. The other was leaving ON the console for 2 or 3 days waiting for some demos to DL and forgot about it. saw rings while waking up. All the demos were downloaded.

The Wiki article says that the problem arise from playing Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2 which I own and play a lot and still no problems.

What Im fuking pissed about is that in my Lost Planet disc now have a full thick ring in the middle section and I can assure you that console didnt moved a milimeter (due to having a thick rubber mat under it to absord the 12" subwoofer vibration) that is at 2 feet from console. Disc RMA $20 and I feel like Im getting raped with a cooked banana.
