Eternal Sonata for PS3 will feature new playable characters

Eternal Sonata for PS3 will feature new playable characters photo
Not what I had in mind

I used to hate the early Xbox years when a title like Silent Hill 2 for PS2 would hit, and then shortly afterwards a version for Xbox with more content would appear. Seems the process is being console reversed now: Eternal Sonata's PS3 incarnation will feature two character that were previously non-playable (Serenade and Prince Crescendo) and extra story sequences. Grrr! The only motive here can be to drive a gamer to buy a game twice, which peeves me beyond description.

Maybe Xbox 360 owners who have already bought the game will get the extras as downloadable content, but of course what reason would one have to buy the PS3 version then? I'm betting much like Silent Hill 2, you have to shell out another $50-$60 to get a whole new copy of the game just to check out the extras. Sure, we can resist, but it makes me feel manipulated, dammitt.

I'm sure we'll see it as DLC later on. I don't see why they would miss a chance to milk some extra cash out of the game.

Most of the time I'm not a fan of added characters in newer versions of games. I suppose it's not always bad, as I thoroughly enjoyed using Balthier in FF Tactics for the PSP. And Chibi Zero has a point about DLC, although it may not be that easy to implement an entire character with back story and all into an already completed and purchased game. It would require a lot of effort, and that would mean an equally high price to justify the work put into it.

Hopefully they release it as DLC since I'm not too far into the game yet. I won't be buying a PS3 just so that I can play with some extra content in Eternal Sonata though. :/

True, definitely not a good reason to buy a PS3. But I can give you some actual legitmate reasons for that purchase:

Blu Ray movies

Ratchet and Clank

Drakes Fortunes

MGS4

FF13

But we had it first... they can always make DLC for that on XBL anyway.

DLC for this would be cool as long as we don't have to pay for it.

I still wonder why they do that, though.

I was already thinking about getting it for the PS3 since there's no way I'll have time to play it for quite awhile. Plus I knew they were going to be adding something to it, just not what specifically.

But then again... Maybe there will be a sequel that is NEVER released for the PS3, much like how Silent Hill 3 wasn't released on the Xbox! And you won't be able to play the full series unless you pony up for a 360. Take THAT, Sony!

Curse you, Silent Hill... One of the many reasons I was eventually forced to buy a PS2 when I was perfectly happy with my Xbox!

They probably won't put it up for download for a long time. This is a move to entice people to gravitate towards the PS3... no doubt Sony has a hand in the exclusive features.

It'll be there eventually, but not when the PS3 version comes out, or even soon afterwards.

Truuuust me. :)

This is a huge problem with the games industry right now. Releasing a new game with new content, and then essentially screwing over the fans who bought the original game is not a way to do business.

Eventually gamers are just going to get fed up and stop buying games right when they come out......maybe..

Of course it's good business. Hands up those who owned PS2 & Xbox bought Silent Hill 2 again. Customer rape is good business

Well the developers actually wanted to make money off of the game in a Japan release so naturally they had to release it on something other then America Box.

I just hope the online play and other functions are added to the PS3 version of VF5 in a download. I could care less about Loli Sonata.

Destructoid reported the game coming to PS3, but not the playable characters and extra story. Click the links in the story for the original.

Ask yourself this. Depending on how well the developer does implementing the new content, do you really want to play an extra content version of the game with a few new characters and story arcs shoe-horned in? Do the new features warrant messing with and possibly having a negative effect on the game as you knew it? Especially in RPGs where character interaction is as important as it is. I'll admit that the extra content doesn't usually have much of an affect on the overall story, but it's something to consider.

I've never been one to buy two versions of a game because one version contained more weapons, characters, maps, missions, etc. To me the little extra never seemed worth it. Now if the game were to be released on a console I didn't own and later re-released on a console that I did own with extra content, that's a different story.

I remember reading a lot of really, really stupid Sony fanboy commenting on the game when they thought it was a 360 exclusive game and said it looked like a Dreamcast game. I'm willing to bet that those very same people are now going to praise the hell out of the way the game looks despite having been dumb shits enough to actually call it a Dreamcast game.

I might see myself caring if they added some new enemies and tweaked the gameplay so it wasn't the same repetitive button mash nearly every fight.

there isnt enough difference for me to buy the game again or eve dlc if there is any, u get to use 7 characters at the end anyway, but you can only use 3 at a time so wuts the point. a team of salsa march and jazz is the best thing to use anyway, 6 harmony chains in a row is a killer to pull of though, fucking button changes
