ESRB rates Sonic 4, makes it sound old school photo

The ESRB recently rated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for North America and, as you might expect, has shed light on a few previously unknown details. The most important of these details is the fact that Sonic will free trapped animals from a machine at the end of each Zone. Yep, just like in the old days! Yet another pleasing hint that Sonic 4 is on the right track.

Here's what the ESRB has to say about Sega's furry revival:

This is a side-scrolling adventure game in which players zoom through themed levels, collect gold rings, and jump on tiny robot enemies. Players earn points for collecting “power-ups” and freeing tiny animals that are trapped in the robots. During boss battles at the end of levels, players may encounter an arch nemesis in a mechanical device that gets charred and emits some flames when damaged.

I love how being charged and emitting flames is cause enough for concern, but aside from that, I like what I'm hearing. Sonic 4 is out this Summer and I'm working on getting some hot news to you before then. It's pretty much my most anticipated game right now, and you can shove it up your arse if you disagree.

Sonic 4 is going to suck. The art style is too anime, he doesn't move fast enough, Robotnik's weapon was never checkered, it reminds me of Sonic Rush and Sonic is too blue. TOO BLUE!

Pointless "let's find any excuse to bash on Sonic 4" bullshit aside, I can't wait to get my hands on Sonic 4. But I gotta tell ya -- this is Sega's LAST chance, dammit.

Has Sonic had some sort of growth spurt? Why is he so tall?

I never did understand the concept of the gold rings. I mean you fucking lose 'em all and stuff every time you touch an enemy. It seemed like the only reason for the rings existing is that so you don't die in one hit.

Why do people care about this game. This is obviously a cash in by the sonic developers with the lazy bit graphics style and all. they are probably just going to rehash sonic cd.

@shinryu108

It's not as great as you'd think -- they don't actually play games. They watch videos of games sent in by publishers to determine a rating.

@Chronic Logic: Get a certain amount and you're allowed in the special stages, or you can become super sonic, or you can get an extra life...

I think Sonic's ring system is one of the most unique and fun health systems of any 2D platformer.

I think the complaints people are making are absolutely ridiculous. Neurotic Sonic fans, pull your head out of your ass and face reality. Not everything is going to go your way. Dipshits.

I'm pretty sure they're speaking more about the tiny animals inside of each robot bad-nick.
Still, I don't see why they would leave the animal entrapment camps out from after each boss, so that aspect will probably be present as well.

Aussie here. Knowing Atkinson, ole Robotnik getting "charred and emitting flames" will probably warrant an outright ban.

Sounds hot in any case, I'm pumped.

Yeah, his weapon WAS checkered. You've obviously never played the original sonic the hedgehog. You can see it at the end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCv3Q-APhlQ

That's a checkered ball on a chain right there. Now get out of there with your empty and nit picky claims.

Don't keep us in the suspenses... What did they rate it? Either it's T and it's not cool enough for the blood spurting crowd, or it's M and we shouldn't let teenagers indulge in it.

Surely it can't be around the E rating... surely!

The ESRB applies opinion on the game content such as movie ratings used in most countries around the world. The purpose of the ESRB is to inform consumers about the content and its suitability for certain audiences. The game scores are posted on the website advertising and box sets.
