ESRB Confirmedtoid: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia coming to DS photo

While the name was trademarked by Konami not long ago, here is your confirmation -- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia has been rated by the ESRB, and will be coming to the Nintendo DS.

While we have no further information, we have to assume it will involve hunting vampires (or some form of Count Dracula), and that there will probably be a castle of some sort. Also, you might be able to unlock an upside down version of the castle once the game is complete. You will also fight animated skeletons. Wikipedia tells us that "ecclesia" refers to a gathering of citizens or "gathering of those summoned," from the Greek "ekklesia." Draw your own conclusions from that.

Here's my take, and it's probably not going to be a popular one -- I'm getting tired of these Castlevania games on Nintendo's handhelds. We've already seen two on the Nintendo DS, and before that three on the Game Boy Advance. That's five Castlevania games, all of which were solid but could have been one long game and no one would have noticed.

I'm definitely looking for something new, and history has me hesitant to think that Order of Ecclesia is going to break out of the "explore the castle, get a new power to reach a new area" mold. I'm hoping that when Konami official announces the title my socks are knocked off, but I won't be surprised if they stay on.

Let me join the chorus of people bemoaning the cookie-cutter anime art direction of the last few games. Likewise, the art for the DS games has kept CV from being a killer app for the platform, and as a result I haven't purchased a DS yet.

I loved the art style they were using before. Again, I think it would be awseome to have HD-sized sprites made out of/based on hand drawn art from the SoTN/HoD era.

Console-based Metroivania in HD FTW.

I bought my DS for its Castlevania games, so this is awesome news! I agree with people who wish that Konami would make another console installment in the series. I, personally, would love to see a Castlevania game with four-player online co-op multiplayer, allowing players to choose from different classes based on classic Castlevania characters. :)

I've beaten both of the DS Castlevania games up to this point within 24 hours of purchasing them. Honestly, these games completely steal me away from the rest of the world. I can't put into words how much I love Castlevania.

Since I skipped Portrait, I'm itching for a new Castlevania. I trust the team to deliver a solid game, but I doubt we'll see much innovation. Mostly because lots of people complain when they break away from the "Symphony" format.

I still don't have a DS yet.

God dammit.

I was wondering if any of the comments would bring up the War of 1999. I hope this is the one to do it. I want to play as J. I'll end up buying this day one.

Though a side scroller ala CV3 would be awesome. Also awesome would be a CV collection on DS or PSP. Now for ultimate awesome: Contra/CV/Gradius/Parodius/Salamander in one massive collection on Playstation 3 (since they'd bomb on 360 in Japan and I'd rather not think about Wii getting something of that caliber).

Take your statement about the games "being the same" on the DS and apply to every 3d castlevania game and it still holds true.

I don't mind if they make 100 castlevanias for the DS. The fact is the DS is the only place left to get good 2d platform action and Konami's releasing these games on almost a yearly cycle has me giggling like a school girl.

Your complaint is like somebody complaining that classic cars all look "classicy" and lack innovation.
