This is very good, and hearing that about Cave Story DSi makes me look at it as the definitive version. Totally picking that up!

That's what I get for buying it yesterday I suppose. Still I regret nothing. It's an awesome game, and that gives me another excuse to enjoy it all over again.
@Cornelius: I don't know. Sometimes when I log into eshop I get a notice for a game update. That's probably what's going to happen here.
If they made a new Battletoads, I would immediately preorder it from gamestop, several times. I'm sure they would appreciate the business.

Sweet. I've been thinking about replaying Mighty Switch Force, and this sounds like the perfect excuse.
Already have CS+ on PC, but I'll but it again. Had to stop playing it cause my laptop was having issues detecting my game pad.

Word is mighty switch force will be a simple update while cavestory will be a seperate version to buy. The dsiware version may dissapear on the eshop but will be available to download if you already. Bought it. The game will still be available on dsi systems for purchase
I thought the 3D was already quite good in Mighty Switch Force but oh well, glad for the new content. Also cool about Cave Story getting an upgrade but why can't we Cave Story 3D owners get some of that content :/ I really loved the polygonal version but it has so little content for the price now.

Yeah, I tried to get into Cave Story 3D, but I liked to sprite-based version better, so a I'll take another shot at another version.

Hell yeah, free levels for Mighty Switch Force!! Now that's how ya do DLC. I don't know where the hell Wayforward finds all the time to make so much awesome, but I thank them for it. Now get working on more Shantae dammit!
And I don't know what your problem with the 3D was Tony, I thought it was subtle but effective, and I love how a switch can shoot your character out at the screen and "break the glass".

Why am I not liking Cave Story? I've been playing the 3D version, which is the one I got, and I just can't seem to like it. The game feels too short, the gameplay too easy and the story is not enough
@Fuzunga - Were I to guess, its Aksys Games based off the fact that Tradewest owned the rights to Double Dragon and Battletoads. Rare gave up the rights to Tradewest when they left to partner with Nintendo. Aksys has licensed out the rights to Double Dragon to Wayforward and recently put the Game Boy version of Double Dragon on eShop.
I'll never understand why that Battletoads/Double Dragon crossover game was a thing on the SNES, though.

My issue with the 3D in Mighty Switch Force was that, since the sprites and environments were so detailed, the 3D had the habit of making each layer look like cardboard cutouts stacked on top of each other as opposed to offering any true sense of depth. It had the adverse effect of making the game look "flat," whereas the simple 2D view made the game pop more.

You might want to try one of the other versions. Maybe a change of visuals might be just what you need to really get into the game.

Man an update like that would be the shit! Bought Cave Story DSiWare, loved it. Bought Cave Story 3D, got rid of it. I would love to simply update to Cave Story +, provided it won't cost me anything.

Haven't grabbed Mighty Switch Force yet, so this is just one more reason to get it. Looks like I'll be buying Cave Story again, too. Now if WayForward could dream up some way to get the original Shantae on the e-shop.
Mighty Switch Force was really good, if you haven't gotten it yet I would highly recommend it, and this is coming from someone who thought Shantae and their other DSi titles weren't that great. My only complaint about MSF was that it was too short, so more levels is definitely welcome. Hopefully we get a full blown sequel at one point.

@Tony- well to each his own I guess, but I kinda liked that about it. The diorama effect seems rather well suited to the art style, as well as most side-scrollers I think, like the 3D Classics games. I will agree with you though while pointing at that one screen where the girls are washing the police van. Something was definitely up with the 3D in that shot.
Ah, so that's how they resolve the lack of Cave Story on European DSiWare. Cool. If only I had a 3DS.
What exactly is in this version of Cave Story? Are the graphics from the original version, the Wii version, or the 3DS version? Does anyone know when the Eshop is updated/when this comes out? And how much willit cost?
I'm so happy about a revised CAVE STORY for eShop. I've been wanting to play it on the 3DS, but haven't wanted to buy the lesser DSi version, and haven't wanted to shell out for the polygon version. And gimme more dem MIGHTY SWTICH FORCE levels yeah.
As someone who's currently playing it in the 3D version I feel ever so slightly gypped. I wanted the 3DS version, because, although not really the definitive version, it's supposedly the best version, and for that, and for not having to play a dsiware version that doesn't even fill the 3DS screen, I thought it was worth it, but now this sounds both like the best version and the definitive version and it's (possibly) rewarding the people who opted for the much cheaper dsi version over the more expensive 3DS version (or in any case, it's much cheaper than the 3DS version). Also the graphics on the 3DS version are so dark I can hardly see them even on the brightest setting when I play the game at the bus station. Am I wrong to feel at least mildly annoyed by this?

@Grethiwha No, you're not the only one who's annoyed at this. I wrote to Nicalis (even though i know that an email won't do annything). I think it's great that they just take care of the people who brought the DSi game version, but it's a nonsense that they don't even pay attention to the customers who paid the most.

@Artume: Yea. Looking at the source for this article, it sounds more like owners of the dsiware version will have to buy it again if they want it, too. Like, it's a separate release. But in any case, it sounds completely better than the retail version that I've got.
