Epic Mickey on Xbox 360 or PS3? Maybe, says Spector photo

Wouldn't that be Epic?

Right now, Warren Spector's new baby, Epic Mickey, is a Wii-only title. It's coming out on the Wii because the game requires motion-sensing tech for the controls. Or so says Spector. But now that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will have motion-sensing tech with the Move and Kinect additions, the game could come out for those consoles.

Spector told AtomicGamer: "Before Move and Kinect I probably would have said no, because the game is built around gesturing. Now, however, there's no reason technologically why we couldn't."

But. BUT!

"That decision is really above my pay grade, and no one's asked me for a port. I've been a Nintendo fan a long time, and I've been pretty open about the fact that the Zelda games are some of my favorite of all time. So we're a Wii exclusive and I'm happy about that."

Here's my thing, though: I've played Epic Mickey, and I totally could see a version that does not require waggle at all. Remember all those lovely Disney 2D classics? Those were delicious, much like Epic Mickey's 2D sections are. Just make us a new sidescrolling game, man. It would sell!

Why do people care about this game again?

hpv - I'm interested in it because it looks to be a nifty action-platformer with some RPG elements and a fun, thematic mechanic. Additionally, there looks to be a whole mess of Disney trivia and nostalgia in the game, thus offering a package with tons of tidbits not unlike Beatles Rock Band.

Is that enough reason for a person to care?

I just saw another preview for this on G4. It looks pretty awesome on the Wii. I can only imagine how good it would look in HD.

Warren Spector (Deus Ex creator), Mickey Mouse (you may have heard of him), interesting gameplay mechanics and a wealth of Disney material to draw from.

I'd love to see the game on 360/PS3... I like my Wii i just can't stand the resolution when playing it on my HDTV.

This game would be pretty sick on the 360/PS3.

Can't wait to see how its does on the Wii!

Jesus Christ, the whole reason this went to the Wii in the first place was because Junction Point couldn't develop for a multiplatform environment and feasibly realize all that it wanted to accomplish. Moving to Wii exclusivity was a way to streamline production. The motion controls were the icing on the cake. Just because the other machines have motion controls now doesn't change that.

I'm really getting peeved by all this back-peddling talk when it comes to Wii releases.

Ugh, why does it matter if it's in HD anymore? Why? The game is a cartoon after all, unless it improves the game's performance OVERALL (Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2, I see no reason why it has to be sooo much better if it's in HD.

People have to stop being graphics whores. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good graphics, but if that's all there is to a game, it's not worth ANYONE'S time.

I love the art style of No More Heroes 2... but seeing a game of that resolution on a 1080p 37" tv makes for uncomfortable viewing (small text, blurry images).

@hpv: I personally care about Warren Spectors involvement...he's been involved in almost all the favorite games of my gaming life.

@Toadofsky: HD isn't a technology like Nuclear Fission...it doesn't need grand ethical debates prior to its use...it's a technology that has been available for 15 years at least on PC monitors, and should be the standard by now. That's why it should be in HD. That said, if you want to play it in HD, check out Dolphin.

@ laggerific:

The fact is, HD is also pretty stinking expensive, not to mention develop for.
While I'll admit, I was disappointed the Wii didn't go HD 1080 or whatever, I was more interested in the games, and if they were good, because in the end, that's all that matters. WE'RE NOT GOING TO CARE ABOUT THE GRAHPICS FROM TODAY'S GAMES 10 YEARS FROM NOW, I have no doubts of that.

I'm still calling it for graphics whores, even if they redo the game, I don't see how much more it'll make the game any better. The only thing will be the physics, and the environments and creatures, that's it. I don't really care what's going on under the hood, because after 10 or so minutes of playing a game on ANY HD system, you're wrapped up in the game, you're not paying attention to the minute pointless details of a game. And if you do, that's fine, whatever floats your boat.

@ Tony:
Probably the reason behind it, is because of idiot "journalists" that wanna see everything in 1080p, and nothing lower than that. Instead of focusing on whether it's actually FUN to play?

Because people who have played it say that it's fun and nice to look at and the guy who is making it has made other good games.

I only wished they made the game for 360 and PS3, but just followed the awesome concept art more. That concept art is one of the most awesome and unique I've ever seen, but it looks like the Wii game won't be following it, or can't live up to it. It may be an awesome game without, but the art style was what really made me interested in it.

@hpv - Its mostly because its Warren Spector and possibly also the fact that Epic Mickey fills the Disney nostalgia void that some people feel Kingdom Hearts has neglected. I don't agree on the latter, but some people seem to feel that way.

If you're unfamilar with Warren Spector's games, I believe the original Deus Ex is available on Steam. Download and play it.

Warning: After Deus Ex, Bioware RPGs may seem quaint and child-like.

I got a Wii and if it makes it to the HD twins i don't really care, the more people that can play this (provided it's good) the merrier, that said, i doubt it'll be any success there though, what with all the blood, tits, violence thirsty "core" gamers that scoff at anything remotely kid-friendly looking, much less a Disney character.

@Tony Ponce: That's an interesting fact, i honestly though it was all about the motion control but i also thought they aimed to have a more receptive audience too.

Shhh, Spector. Don't kill potential sales of the Wii version w/ some folks waiting for a version that may or may not happen.

Anyways, day fucking 1. Warren Spector + Disney nostalgia = cream in my jeans!

Not all that interested in the Wii version but I'd definitely buy it for PS3 if it had Move control.

It's not just the graphics - trophies are important to me (for the gameplay benefits, not epeen), and Wii's motion controls aren't accurate enough to be fun to use in a 'core' game IMO.

So how long before we get people claiming that they're not going to buy the game and "hold out" for the supposedly superior 360 and PS3 versions (like NMH2) or that somehow, Move and Kinect will prove to be superior forms of motion sensing and beat the Wii at its own game?

I saw it in action and it just looked.....bland. Like a PS2 game.

It could be done in the same vein as Galaxy 2 and look gorgeous, but somehow they screwed it up. I'd love an HD release- it'll give them a chance to try on the visuals.

@toadofsky:

I understand your point of view...I probably don't fit the typical description of a graphics whore...I LOVE 8-bit games and that artstyle...in fact, I'd like to see more of it. At the same time, I'm pissed when I can play games like Galaga on my PC and it looks pristine in all its pixelated glory, but the copy I bought on XBLA ages ago looks like I'm playing it on the Wii at 480p.

So, I don't expect them to make the games more realistic or fancy, but I would like my games to look cleaner than they do in these instances...the same goes for any Wii game in my library...I'd much rather play them in Dolphin...it makes me weep when I see SMG running at 720p, and Zelda:WW is still a contender for most gorgeous game ever at 1600x1200, and that's based on 2001/2002 technology.

Everyone already talked about Warren Spector. His games are: Deus Ex, Ultima Underworld series, Wing Commander series, Thief series, Ultima 6 and 7 (the best Ultima game), System Shock and Crusaders: No Remorse. That is some resume there.

Well if they port it they'll do it like they did The Dead Space extraction game for the wii make it available through download on the xbox live or PSN right after they make a few bucks on the wii. I just find it funny that they'll port a wii game to the Xbox and PS3 not the other way around.

I dunno.Maybe its cuz Spector,I was expecting very groundbreaking game from him.But from what I've seen so far from Epic Mickey is occasional 3D platform with 2d platform sections and nothing more.

Im srsly disappointed with the things I 've seen with the title for now.Its the man who made System Shock 2 and Deus Ex.

I dont have a Wii yet,but I can buy it just for this.(Never was a huge Nintendo fan). But for Warren Spector's game,I would buy.
