Game Informer caused a bit of a stir recently when it removed the "Wii exclusive" label from its Epic Mickey teaser, leading many of us to wonder if there were plans for cross-platform releases. GI has now confirmed that the game will be made for the Wii, and only the Wii. If you thought that the gorgeous concept art for Warren Spector's Epic Mickey would be realized in HD graphics on a PS3 or Xbox 360, then tough luck.
What happened was that Game Informer attempted to hide the Wii exclusivity news so that it could save the big reveal for the next magazine issue. Unfortunately, this is the Internet, which meant everybody saw it before and after it was taken down. As is often the case, things snowballed and now Game Informer has been forced to spoil its big reveal (that we had all guessed in the first place) and confirm the Disney title's platform exclusivity.
That's a shame, since I felt that with Sony's Wiimote coming out, a PS3 release would have definitely been possible. Perhaps it could still happen one day, but for now you're going to have to make do with Epic Mickey in SD.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But I was really hoping to buy it for my 360
I'm still waiting for some screenshots, at least, to make any judgments on that.
The gameplay sounds far better suited for the Wii. I haven't used the PSWand but I have two Wiimotes already so screw that.
Okami PS2 sold around the same amount of copies as the Wii, was received better critically, and was just fine using analog control. This is probably a licensing issue: controls are moot.
"The gameplay sounds far better suited for the Wii."
Maybe, but so did Okami. I hope it's awesome all the same.
well it can still be pretty
What do we know about the game play so far that would make this undoable on other platforms?
considering this game has the potential to be visually stunning, the wii seems like a very poor choice of platform.
I hope they pull off the style that the concept art is showing us, though. This game has an awful lot of potential and I'd hate to see that go to waste.
To be fair the analog controls were really all we knew. Hopefully we're educate now so this will feel custom talored for motion controls.
I don't think it's impossible but it's certainly something that benefits from the Wii's controls. I'm looking forward to finally getting a good Wii exclusive. Graphics I think are the real mute point.
Seriously, when the game looks better emulated without any filters or anything because the game SUPPORTS higher resolution, something's up.
I really hope everyone who wants to gets to play this game but I'm hope it happens like the way above. Though I hope I don't sound like one of those dicks who get off because a game is exclusive to their console and no one else can play it.
This generation is pathetic.
"The wii has no good games!"
Good game announced for the Wii
"Fuck the wii, I won't buy this."
Because I'm hearing a lot of lamentation...
Sound interesting, and I'm interested. I know fun/functional motion control is possible, and the concept is still hot. What's a little definition when you're having a good time?
Truly, this is one of the saddest, most backwards generations ever.
Exactly, it makes no sense that people always complain about how there are no good Wii games, but when one gets announced. Those same people say screw it, I want it for the 360/PS3 instead. If this game was made from the ground up to be a Wii exclusive, than why the hell do people think it should be on any other system? Can they port it to the other systems later? Sure, but that won't make it any less of a good game for the Wii.
This game has one of the best concepts I've heard in years, and the gameplay ideas they've put forth are incredible, and all everyone can talk about is the fact that it's NOT IN HD? God, it makes me sick just thinking about it.
I'm going to go stare in wonder at that header image and try to forget that this arguement is even taking place.
Welcome to this gen. *sigh*
Are you complaining about waggle BEFORE the game's actually been released? You can't take what a completely unrelated game developer may have done with the console as an example of what they can do.
Honestly, I think it's the concept art (and the fact that we don't know much about the game play). As beautiful and elaborate as that art is, we KNOW the Wii won't be able to capture that nearly as well as the HD systems could and right now that's the main thing we've been associating with this game.
