Epic Mickey is definitely a Wii exclusive photo

Game Informer caused a bit of a stir recently when it removed the "Wii exclusive" label from its Epic Mickey teaser, leading many of us to wonder if there were plans for cross-platform releases. GI has now confirmed that the game will be made for the Wii, and only the Wii. If you thought that the gorgeous concept art for Warren Spector's Epic Mickey would be realized in HD graphics on a PS3 or Xbox 360, then tough luck.

What happened was that Game Informer attempted to hide the Wii exclusivity news so that it could save the big reveal for the next magazine issue. Unfortunately, this is the Internet, which meant everybody saw it before and after it was taken down. As is often the case, things snowballed and now Game Informer has been forced to spoil its big reveal (that we had all guessed in the first place) and confirm the Disney title's platform exclusivity.

That's a shame, since I felt that with Sony's Wiimote coming out, a PS3 release would have definitely been possible. Perhaps it could still happen one day, but for now you're going to have to make do with Epic Mickey in SD.

I'll still buy it...
But I was really hoping to buy it for my 360

Oh well. I still expected this to be the case, but it doesn't mean that it can't look beautiful.
I'm still waiting for some screenshots, at least, to make any judgments on that.

Oh well. While Epic Mickey would of benefited from the stronger hardware on the Wii's counterparts, oh well. The Wii needs more worthwhile exclusives anyways.

I knew this would happen. Just because gi removed the wii exclusive label didn't mean it would be multiplatform

Good. Yes I said it.

The gameplay sounds far better suited for the Wii. I haven't used the PSWand but I have two Wiimotes already so screw that.

I hope they release the Castle/World of Illusion games in the run up to the games release.

For all the people who say Epic Mickey's controls are impossible on other consoles...

Okami PS2 sold around the same amount of copies as the Wii, was received better critically, and was just fine using analog control. This is probably a licensing issue: controls are moot.

"The gameplay sounds far better suited for the Wii."

Maybe, but so did Okami. I hope it's awesome all the same.

That blows. It really doesn't make total sense to do this on the bigger platforms (mostly because of cost vs possible audience) but I was still hoping. I'm still interested in it though.

What do we know about the game play so far that would make this undoable on other platforms?

epic fail :(

considering this game has the potential to be visually stunning, the wii seems like a very poor choice of platform.

Interesting. Frankly, I was a little annoyed listening to Podtoid 119 yesterday when you guys said Wii exclusivity would make it more kiddy...but I digress. I think it'll be about as dark as Kingdom Hearts, and that sold just fine.

I hope they pull off the style that the concept art is showing us, though. This game has an awful lot of potential and I'd hate to see that go to waste.

To be fair the analog controls were really all we knew. Hopefully we're educate now so this will feel custom talored for motion controls.

I don't think it's impossible but it's certainly something that benefits from the Wii's controls. I'm looking forward to finally getting a good Wii exclusive. Graphics I think are the real mute point.

Just means I can hope that they do what was done with Muramasa and make the graphics potentially better than the Wii can output.

Seriously, when the game looks better emulated without any filters or anything because the game SUPPORTS higher resolution, something's up.

I'm really glad that they're deciding to make it exclusive. That will mean that they can focus on making a damn good Wii game then hopefully HD it up once the PS3mote and NATAL come out.

I really hope everyone who wants to gets to play this game but I'm hope it happens like the way above. Though I hope I don't sound like one of those dicks who get off because a game is exclusive to their console and no one else can play it.

Maybe the meant that the idea of a Mickey Mouse game might actually be suited for the Wii platform? You know, since every single site and blog constantly like parading around the stupid outdated notion that only cartoony colorful games for younger crowds?

Truly, this is one of the saddest, most backwards generations ever.

Exactly, it makes no sense that people always complain about how there are no good Wii games, but when one gets announced. Those same people say screw it, I want it for the 360/PS3 instead. If this game was made from the ground up to be a Wii exclusive, than why the hell do people think it should be on any other system? Can they port it to the other systems later? Sure, but that won't make it any less of a good game for the Wii.

Why the hell are people so up in arms about whether the game will be in HD or SD? Who gives a flying shit? There are plenty of Wii games that look absolutely fantastic, and plenty of HD games that look like shit. And besides, isn't the game concept and the gameplay supposed to be what matters?

This game has one of the best concepts I've heard in years, and the gameplay ideas they've put forth are incredible, and all everyone can talk about is the fact that it's NOT IN HD? God, it makes me sick just thinking about it.

I'm going to go stare in wonder at that header image and try to forget that this arguement is even taking place.

That's too bad, unless it really takes advantage of the hardware. Or if it takes the Muramasa route where it's assets are HD but are scaled down, thus making a port to the PC or something possible.

Being upset that Epic Mickey isn't coming to a "next-gen" console near you is akin to complaining how some console games don't show up on the PC.

Every time a wii gamer laments over being screwed onexclusives or getting the PS2 port on multi games it is business as usual but, god forbid, the wii gets a coveted game as an exclusive, the Internets melts it tubes out.

I'm with the "why care if it's in HD" crowd. It doesn't really matter, and I could care less if it was exclusive or not. Who cares if it is only going to be on the Wii? Just get over it, and move on.

Are you complaining about waggle BEFORE the game's actually been released? You can't take what a completely unrelated game developer may have done with the console as an example of what they can do.
