The 3DS does sound pretty good, though.
So, the console with the shittiest graphics and the shittiest online infrastructure (headset, anyone?) is the lead platform..... Wow just wow.
"here, take these shitty art assets and make them HD"
"we're going to have small simple environments in the 360 & PS3 versions because the Wii can't handle it"
There's no online functionality, so lack of a stable online infrastructure doesn't mean much of anything. As for graphics, are they really that bad? Look at the video above yourself. Plus, it's a lot easier to port up than to port down. You are being a little unreasonable.
I wonder why they didn't decide to make it for Wii U; if they had, it might've been the first great triple-platform release.
Not sure which version to get between the first two, so I ended up pre-ordering both and I'll decide later.
And I can't wait to see the 3DS version. DreamRift rocks.
I'm more interested in the 3DS game regardless.
I don't know why you'd be surprised. The original game was Wii-exclusive, so the team has more experience with said platform. Plus, if you want to have parity with all versions, you have to build for the lowest common denominator then work upwards.
The reason why multiplatform titles looked so gimped on the Wii was because the HD version was the lead game and then a separate studio had to essentially reconstruct it entirely with fewer tools. The results are never pretty. The opposite direction is far easier, and I've always wondered why more studios didn't do that to begin with. You'd have a lot less frustration from Wii owners if that was the case, and I guarantee more studios would have found better success had they not treated the Wii as a supplement.
Oh, shit.
The other one being about GameStop not taking GameCube trade-ins anymore.
interesting
Super dooper excited about the 3DS spinoff, though.
Oh goody, another game writer who complains about companies supporting the Wii. So glad you're a writer for this site!!! :D
*the heavens part*
*angels begin to sing*
Thanks for being cool, Warren, you will be rewarded with a purchase. (or two... gotta see some 3DS gameplay).
I don't think he was complaining about companies supporting the Wii. I think he was complaining about companies supporting the Wii BADLY. There's a big difference there. The potential for massive fail is pretty fucking HUGE here. Could end up great, though. This is definitely, like Adonai said, a wait and see game.
It's like they spent their budget and resources making a shitload of developer diaries where Warren Spector babbles on about disney memorabilia and morality system bullshit while they cobbled together a completely empty game. Really disappointed to see Dreamrift is working on this crap instead of making something new.
The HD twins version is being done by the makers of Bad Boys: Miami Takedown? sure sucks to be an HD fanboy right now.
damn Epic Mickey 2 looks beautiful in that vid. huge props to Junction Point for making the coop split-screen - not all gamers are friendless 12 year-olds with ADHD like most publishers on HD platforms want us to believe.
Wii version is definitely the definitive title. there's 2d sequence in that video - if that white circle is how you shoot paint on HD consoles, the game is fuckin broken on those platforms. plus, given the fact that
Move is not even on par with original Wiimote in terms of precision, not to mention the fact that 9/10 times it flat out doesn't work, i'm guessing the only reason it's getting HD version is because Disney wanted it and not Junction Point. hell Junction Point works exclusively on Wii version.
why everyone thinks that 3DS game is a port? it's a completely different title - supposedly 2D platformer. i'm definitely buying both Wii and 3DS games - original game was awesome and is one of my favorite titles this gen.
And "Blitz Games" is a result of poor translation or... something... I hope? What you really meant to say was "I'm glad Blitz Games isn't anywhere near this potentially amazing game." right?
The only game I can find where this isn't true is the awful Tron games.
Yep. I have more Wii games than I do PS3 games -- when it's done right (usually only by Nintendo, and some early Capcom efforts), it's done amazingly well. Look at Mario Galaxy 2 -- that game looks better than a large number of HD games on other consoles.
My problem is that no one tries nearly as hard as Nintendo, and the result is usually sub-par/lazy. So when their game fails, they blame it on the Wii, and try to port/move to other consoles, but those usually fail too.
