Epic Games executive producer Rod Fergusson has boldly claimed that Gears of War boasts the best cast of characters in videogames, pitting Marcus Fenix and pals against a list that often includes Half-Life and at least one roleplaying game.
"I think people don't realise the calibre of acting that can be in videogames, and how much they push it," claimed Fergusson. "Our cast I think is probably the best cast in videogames, but obviously I'm biased.
He also bigged up the famous "Maria" scene from Gears 2, touting it as an intense, emotional experience: "Being involved in every voiceover situation for all three games, and having to prepare for that scene, and having to turn off the lights in the studio so he could get into it, and actually having him cry in the studio over it."
Many will scoff at the idea of putting Gears of War up there with some of the best narratives in gaming, but I don't think Gears' story gets enough credit. Sure, it's not the most beautiful and sentimental of plots, but it does feature a cast of strikingly affable characters and an energetic, well paced story of the popcorn-chewing variety.
Epic: Gears of War has "the best cast in videogames" [OXM, thanks Alex!]
No!
Hopefully further down the line we will get a prequel that will expand on what could be a really rich and rewarding IP
No.
Just....no.
I like Gears, but srsly.. they should just focus on improving the gameplay xD
Woot? How can you hate CliffyB? Mark Rein, ok. He's a controverse character.
But Cliffy? Have I missed something?
I respectfully disagree.
*Cue Mass Effect sex scene music*
Then one of those giant spiders appears and gores Dominic with one giant leg and Marcus cries, "WHY? WHYYYY?I? YOU TOOK AWAY THE ONLY PERSON I'VE EVER LOVED!!" and goes on an insanely murderous rampage, beyond even Dominic's nuttiness after Maria's death.
lol...now I'm just writing bizarre fanfic.
Oh well. It'd still be better than the Gears story.
And seriously the "Maria" scene? Remember the "Jenny" scene from The Darkness?
Unless their games are all some sort of meta Freudian parody of today’s games....that would actually explain a lot.

I LOVE Gears BUT...
You can say it's better than people expect, that you like, and so on. But seriously, get a grip.
Who the hell seriously plays Gears of War for the story though? You play it cause you want to chainsaw people in the face, and act like a tough guy even though you're probably a pansy in real life. At least, that's what I play it for.
Voice acting is pretty good though. Anybody who can make me laugh just by saying "Who wants toast?" gets props from me.
On the contrary, games like Uncharted and Mass Effect have multiple scenes in each title that have real emotional depth and are superbly well-acted by entire casts/multiple actors.
No? Then you're wrong. Simple as that.
