Epic Games has pretty offices, nice cars photo

I had a chance to spend some time at Epic Games' Cary, North Carolina offices, mainly to spend some time with the multiplayer portions of Unreal Tournament 3 on the PC. Yes, the game was impressive, and I surely will be doing a more detailed write-up of the various modes I played. But more importantly -- what does the dungeon look like that Gears of War was made in? Does Cliffy B use the bathrooms on the first or second floor?

While I don't have a definitive answer to that last question, I can guess that he most likely uses the more private, "home" style bathrooms that you can find on the first floor. But that's just a guess. As for what the rest of the offices look like, take a look for yourself.

I don't claim to be an ace photographer, so please forgive the quality of the photos. But you can get a good sense of where the Epic team is spending long hours during these last few weeks of Unreal Tournament 3 crunch time. We're talking multiple break rooms (with classic arcade cabinets and table tennis), a big on-site motion capture facility, a basketball court, a full weight room, and more. Oh, and they also have offices where they do actual work, too.

No doubt these guys work hard, but they certainly don't live hard -- one look at the cars in Epic's parking lot could tell you that. It's like high-end automobile showroom, with gorgeous sports cars lining the rows of the sizable lot. What did these guys do, ship a blockbuster Xbox 360 game or something?

Lucky you. Also, holy shit, replica Chainsaw rifle thing from Gears of War. :O

You'd think with all that wealth they could afford to relocate to somewhere better than North Carolina. At least somewhere where the summer isn't likely to melt you like the wicked witch of the west.

All of the guys seem to really like North Carolina -- it's a pretty nice area, I don't blame them!

I'm sure it a lot cheaper to have an office buliding there than in NYC or LA or redwood

Your home city is as boring as you make it. If you have great rock shows in your hometown and you never go, you aren't really taking advantage of your circumstances - or you don't like rock music.

Anyway, I'm happy to see that Epic Games is able to balance comfort and creation in their place of business.

Why are you guys bashing NC? Raleigh was voted one of the best places to live in the United States a bunch of times in the past 10 years. Their are alot of tech jobs around here and we are home to IBM / Redhat / Cisco / Epic / Raven / Bioware / Qualcomm / Dell / SAS / and loads more. Great place to live, and I actually work for SAS. Free company gym / massage therapy, we have a loads of other goodies, Google isnt the only good company to work for =]
