Blue Tongue studious got shut down after they did de Blob 2, even though the sales were modest, and they are incredibly talented. I'll hold no sympathy for Ninja Theory if their company goes down, better companies have disappear that actually pleased their fan base. If they mess up this amazing opportunity to develop a Devil May Cry game it's their own fault.
YOU. Yes, YOU, the reader! Chances are, if you're reading this, you probably didn't buy Enslaved. If you did, thank you. You're awesome. If you DIDN'T, then I suggest you stand up, move away from the computer, march down to your nearest game store, and buy a copy.
Enslaved is one of the most beautiful, imaginative, charming, character-driven, exciting, original, bold, lush, emotional, excellent, and fun games to come out in years. It is the Beyond Good & Evil, Psychonauts, and Okami of this generation. Get up, go out, and spend a few bucks on it since you can get the game rather cheap now. Even if you end up hating it, I can promise you an experience unlike any other game this generation, and new ideas, creativity, and fresh concepts from developers absolutely deserve your time, money, and support.
Now go buy Enslaved and stop reading. Thank you very much.
I know the gameplay was a bit borked but the story and actions between the two characters was great.
Sad now.
Because franchises are easier to milk than new IPs. Its similar in a way to why all the old IPs are being resurrected as FPS.
-shallow combat
-shortish campaign
-Developers who trumpeted mass DLC expansions before the game was even out, instead of stuffing as much content as possible into the base game.
Gee, why wasn't this a run-away hit again?
I was hoping for a sequel all the same. A little more polish would've done them good.
Ive played 1 too many games had a great story but finished on a cliffhanger (Legacy of Kain series, Dungeon Seige 2) because the dev planned to make a sequel but never did due to low sales
God damn you Eidos / SquEx make the goddam series finale!
I still loved it a lot, though. I think the presentation and story made up for the gameplay which is why I like it so much. Pigsy's Perfect 10 was also really good and had an even better story.
Also, I only remember seeing one print ad for it.
I don't really think its people dissing on the game(most people tend to agree it was decent)as much as it is people ragging on the developer for blaming consumers because their game wasn't 'all that and a bag of chips'.
I'll admit that Enslaved did suffer a little in the gameplay but I'm a forgiving player myself and still enjoyed every moment of it. Replay-ability was a bit of a concern to me though since I played the game on the hardest setting and had nothing else to do after I finished it. It wasn't until the DLC came out that I popped the game back in.
It's a shame really, I personally think NT is one of the better game developers but they seem to be missing some crucial elements with their direction. I really hope they catch a break on DMC which I think it's turning out very well. I might not care much for the character redesign but that's really nothing worth raging about.
I would have liked to see more of what that world was about (aside from more backstory on Pigsy :/) or about to become after that ending.
It had hundreds of game breaking bugs. When I played it (a month or two after it came out), it still had a lot of these bugs (knew it was going to be a long session when I glitched 2x within the first 10 minutes of the game and had to restart to fix).
Also, the cooperation between you and Trip was horrible. Half the time she wouldn't even listen, the other half, you would just put her in a safe corner while you took on the enemies. The graphics and textures were also a little bit of an eyesore (though I'll admit there were some beautiful things in that game).
And don't even get me started on that bullshit ending. I'ma let you finish Ninja Theory, but Hideo Kojima is the only developer who can get away with something like that.
I'm not super excited for the new DMC game. I really don't like the way Dante looks (though I'm happy that they included the white hair as part of his devil trigger), but after the horrendous and repetitive mess that was Enslaved's combat system, I can't quite see them mastering such a complex combo system as is a hallmark of the DMC games.
But maybe they'll surprise me. All I know is that I'm happy Enslaved isn't getting a sequel.
Besides, it was kind of set up as a one-shot game, right? I mean, I guess they could have done something with all of the people from the end, but...
Anyone who hates on Enslaved has shitty taste in anything and everything. Fucking incredible game.
"WAHHHH! our mediocre game didn't sell enough! Now we only get to work with one of the most famous and influential Action series ever! LIFE IS SO UNFAIR!"
