Apparently, I'm not the only guy who thought eight dollars for Altered Beast on the Wii was criminal. My solution? Throwing a hissyfit on my sofa and buying it anyway. This guy? He found an old hack to load emulators, bypassing Wii micropayments forever. Virtual Console just got served, Shasta McNasty style.

A clever fox named NitrousXP used a five year old hack to run vintage games using a GameCube Action Replay disk. In this instructional video, he simply loads the software from SDLoad with pirated roms sitting in his flash card, then effortlessly illustrates how to play Super Nintendo games not yet available on the Wii VC (using SNES9X).  Surely, more emulators also work with this hack for the uber impatient and loose of morals. That's so dirty!

The hack doesn't require any modding and the components easy to find; roughly $50 total. Apparently the program is also capable of making the virtual GameCube part of your LAN and loading roms from a network path with a broadband adapter. Check out this Wiki about it. Double dirty!

Is Virtual Console doomed? Nah. Morality, lazyness, obscurity, and sheer usability will spare Nintendo's retro project. I'm writing this off as an odd hack that only dastardly Sony fanboys will employ. But it's a sign of trouble to come -- especially since VC still doesn't have a single good Mario title and Nintendo is being annoyingly strategic about releasing games on it. If this hack does take off and the demand for emulation is that high, it will be their own damn fault.

Hey Reggie, hurry up -- a mob is forming.

As a dude who actually pays for music still, I'll still buy the games from Nintendo. So yeah, morality wins out in my case. And laziness.

As a dude who is somewhere inbetween both of you, I'm both (1) too lazy to do this and (b) terrified of having my door kicked down and made a posterboy for software piracy. This is powerful mojo, though.

This wouldn't mean a thing if Nintendo added to the VC games.

I'd pay £20 for an online Super Mario Kart! But if they just re-relwase exact copies with no improvements, then why should I spend money on games I already bought once before?

At least Microsoft get the games enhanced.

I like how the guy who bootlegs calls the guy who actually spends money on the industry he likes thus supporting the ability for that industry to create more offerings for both of them to enjoy an idiot. Yes you blasted fool dexter everybody bootleg because the game and music industries like creating for free! By no means do I still buy my music but I am not going to crap on somebody that does.

As for the virtual console, 8 dollars for a game I could have played on my genesis? Nothing is updated about it, ummm it is not like it was hard to find when it was out. Yeeeeah emulation pretty much looks like a better deal to me. Hell I will only emulate rare games I like to play but never got a chance to own like Dragon force, and Guardian heroes. To be honest I am not into this Next generation indie retro kick everybody else is on. I want new games that show what the hardware can do, not old games that are a quick buck for the company. Don't get me wrong I know people want to play classic mario, and Geometry wars. I just don't think they should be the first or best offerings you get when you just paid, 250 or 600 or 400 dollars on a system.

I'll wait until we can transfer our own roms to our SD cards and play them using the Wii's built in emulators. If it takes a mod chip, so be it.

I'll pay for the Virtual console games. I just like the interface and I've gotten tired of emulation and the spyware I accumulate from searching for roms.

Online Goldeneye (or even Wiimote enhanced... mmmm) would not only send my brains into spasms, but would also force me to spend all my remaining stupid Wii points on it, no matter how many I have left.

This is because Goldeneye is the only N64 game where it doesn't emulate well on other systems like Xbox (I don't wanna play on my PC and I won't *stamps feet*)

Oh by the way, I only have one brain and I have already bought Bonk's Adventure. I'm saving the rest for something worthwhile.

What they have neglect to mention is that since it is a gamecube exploit then you will probably have to use the gamecube controller, thus kind of defeating the purpose of doing it on the wii instead of the gamecube.
