Emulate a PS2 with a PC: slow but works photo

News surfaced on Digg that the highly compatible PlayStation 2 emulator PCSX2 has been updated and appears to support most of the popular games. The benchmarks are what you would expect -- 12-20 FPS with mixed results on CG movies. We did some poking around and found a forum with a variety of system specs and benchmarks so you can estimate what your performance will be like.

Of course, it makes no sense to upgrade your computer to support this considering the price of a PS2 these days, but then you can't impress your impressionable little cousin on what a nefarious hacker you really are.

The good: Runs most games, easy to use, minimal no fuss HUD, 3mb download

The bad: Your computer needs to be on a reasonable amount of roids to enjoy a solid framerate, pre-rendered movie glitches, Katamari fails at life

The developer removed the binary but you can grab it from a mirror here.

I'm really looking forward to the day this works well, and you can play ISOs off your harddisk. I always have my laptop in tow, and this would be so handy.

So they tested it with FFX(2?)? Do they want to scare people away from using it?

I downloaded the emulator and tested it with GT3, FFX, DDRMAX, DDRMAX2, DDR Extreme and it worked well with GT3 and FFX. Unfortunately, in the DDR games I could get to the style select screen but then it crashed.
