We all knew something was up with a recent quote by John Hillier, Manager of ELSPA's Intellectual Property Crime Unit. The Sunday Post, a Scottish newspaper, quoted Hillier saying "In America it's thought 90 percent of Nintendo users are playing pirated games because of R4s.” Now the ELSPA says that the Sunday Post article contains false quotes.
A spokesperson for ELSPA told GamesIndustry.biz that, "[John] didn't quote The Sunday Post on any figures whatsoever. ELSPA would certainly never presume to comment about America or anywhere else outside of the UK."
It seems that the Sunday Post article is a mishmash of a real conversation with Hillier, facts from a Singaporean article, and false quotes. Or that's that the ELSPA says.
"The quotes from The Sunday Post were ascribed to his name from another article which originates from a website in Singapore. This, it appears, is where The Sunday Post first found out about the supposed R4 situation and for some reason unknown to John have quoted him on what this article said."
The spokesperson also added that Nintendo views the reported facts in the article as false.
"As far as Nintendo are concerned, the facts are completely spurious."
I think that a comment by Destructoid reader DeusPayne sums things up well: "I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that even 90% of DS owners KNOW what an R4 is, let alone own one."
You guys are too smart for this crap, right?
Pwnt.
There's something about made-up statistics that makes me really annoyed.
/prepares for onslaught of sarcastic statistics jokes
/tries saying that 10 times fast
almost all older people that see me playing mine ask me if i have the brain training games and kids just like any game
and when i tell them i'm not playing a game i'm reading a comic they say "you can do that? how?"
so i explain everything it can do and tell them how and they get really interested but mostly say "i'd never understand all that if i buy one can you just do it for me"

I'm still gonna buy me an R4 though, as I really want to use Colors ap on my DS. Its amazing some of the artwork people have made via this little program (that's right, it lets you draw and upload your DS work online). Result.
got me thinking that i might be the only person getting games legitimately
No you don't.
also, can somebody please ban that mmofly dick?
Probably not very many people. The PSP and the DS are completely different systems and there are lots of people that enjoy each of them in different ways. I'm sure there are probably a few people here that even own both. Just because you prefer one over the other doesn't mean you should run around and insult the people that prefer a system you don't. It's just not very nice at all.
A simple truth: the DS has about a thousand times more decent games than the PSP.
Another simple truth: if I wanted something that could "play music, play videos and surf the internet", I'd use my mobile phone - which I do, frequently!
Shame this site doesn't!
