Couldn't you have added some details regarding the achievements? I don't want to read a story only to go to another source to check the details. Can't believe that it took 200 comments for someone to phrase it that way. Generally teachers don't like to go into the plethora of terms used in a racist context towards black people in the early 1800's and if they did then I'm sure they might have skipped a few.
I'd like to point out that Jim didn't know that his PSP had a 'hold' function until atheistium mentioned it to him during the Podcastle, and his job directly involves videogames. People jumping on a chance to call people ignorant is almost as bad as the people who do it to call people racist, the fact of the matter is that at least half the people who didn't know the word beforehand and read this article would have continued to live on their lives without ever needing to use the term and probably without hearing it. ... view replies

If anything this will just increase the rate of piracy in the country. The few people who do buy legal copies buy it here because of the insane markup.

"Girls need not feel excluded, just pick up a fucking video game. That simple. I promise you that no one is going to look down upon you."
Hardly. Depending who the team is and who is playing you can get people being complete dickheads to girls playing online. I will also suggest that people that play video games in general get looked down upon and especially girls. I'm not saying that it should be that way, but the fact of the matter is that it does. Core games don't get marketed towards women because generally they are not the majority.
As for women heroes, I don't think that Tomb Raider reached the level it did because the gameplay was amazing. It's worked, and now companies can easily exploit that. To be fair, Gears of War would not have sold as well if the people were average in the commercials or the box. It all comes down to the image portrayed by the advertising.
I actually agree with you to an extent, but I don't think there's much you or I could do about changing the culture in which people are very superficial. People talk about this issue because it matters, not all posts about women in gaming are a girl in a Pikachu costume, though those seem to be the majority.

Probably, however we took it with little protest and I think it's the price we are paying for graphics and physics engine.
I, for one, don't mind paying the extra price, but I can see where people are coming from. Also, I think that Aivan brought up a really good point with the movie price comparison. It all comes down to taste, after all and I think the value of a game is totally subjective so I can't really say where I fall as my opinion goes. By the way, Viva Piņata sold ridiculously well all things considered.
I have a problem with video blog rants, the fact that they are usually a stream of consciousness of hatred towards the subject without much research or reason behind it, and are often not edited to cut down on the unnecessary parts of the video.I suggest doing it once and seeing yourself so you can do it better the second time around.
