Not sure, but there were literally so many options I couldn't have possibly seen them all. We saw one pretty crazy trap that had a player reversing the motion of a spinning plate that racers had to cross. Hilarity ensued.

- Re: Spike's Video Game Award nominations are here!
A few things I need address, as I'm one of the judges for the Spike VGAs... yes, that means that I filled out a ballot with some of these nominees. Did all of them make it? No. But does this final list look, in many ways, similar to my nomination ballot? Totally.
1) "Who the hell picks this crap?" Well, me, to name one. I honestly haven't seen a full list of judges (it should be on the site, but I can't find it...), but I'll say this -- they're not random people. As far as I know, they were all hand-picked by Geoff Keighley and are all credible. (Whether you consider me to be credible is completely up for you to debate).
2) Nominees were chosen awhile ago, and yes, some of them were made as leaps of faith based on a number of factors (hands-on previews, etc.). Many publishers provided preview or early review builds of many of the games. I understand why you're upset that many of the games released earlier in the year were overlooked, but consider this -- the bulk of the AAA, hard-hitting, high-quality titles were released in the second half of 2009. Looking back at the year, it was not a huge year for "OMG GOTY releases."
3) When I could, I tried to choose exclusives when it came to platform-specific GOTY nominations. So here's the truth -- the PS3 had more (and higher quality) exclusives this year, overall. It was actually easier for me to narrow down four or five high quality PS3 games that were EXCLUSIVE to that console than it was for me to do that with the 360. (Note: If I had to choose to bring one console to a deserted island, it would be the 360.)
4) I've seen some people slagging on the AC2 choice as GOTY -- "It's only been out a day," "Someone must have been paid off," etc. You need to check yourself -- Assassin's Creed 2 is (shock!) apparently one of the best games released this year. Read what people are saying about it, or do one better -- play it before you make a final judgment.
5) The "best performance by a human male/female" category is a total and complete shock to me. I've never seen those categories before, as they were not on my nominee ballot. I have no idea where they came from, but from what I'm reading, it looks like they're specific to "real world actors" portraying (in likeness and voice) a character in a game. I did fill out nominations for best voice actor male/female.
6) The final winners will be determined (as far as I know) from the same judges who chose the nominees. So if Modern Warfare 2 wins, or Assassin's Creed 2 wins, don't start throwing around the "money hat" complaint.
7) Why's everyone crying about Demon's Souls? It's on the "Best RPG" list. Also, my nominations list looked identical to the final one, except it ALSO included Demon's Souls. ... view replies

Again, my thoughts on Brutal Legend had nothing to do with the music, etc. and everything to do with the game as an entire package.
If you're interested in knowing, my music selection this morning has consisted of Meshuggah, Mastadon, Sepultura, and the Melvins. So to insinuate that my "OMG low score" of Brutal Legend has anything to do with me not liking metal or heavy music and its culture is absurd. I also don't understand how it's so difficult for some people to comprehend that I could also appreciate Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Culture Club, even Maroon 5, etc.
Also, comparing reviews scores for a game like Band Hero to Brutal Legend is silly; they're both clearly trying to accomplish something different. It's as stupid as saying "OMG, you guys gave Dragon Age a lower score than Pixel Junk Eden! That is so dumb OMG!"
Anyhow, back on topic... Band Hero. I've yet to unlock Taylor Swift, and that's really bothering me. I want her to play drums on "Wannabe" with the dude from Maroon 5 singing. ... view replies

Regarding the score: Yes, the faults of the game -- including a very key and forced mechanic that is boring and tedious through the game -- dictates the score. I'm sorry it's not what you expected, and I'm sorry the score is not in line with what "everyone else" has scored it. But it is what it is. I have a lot of respect for Tim and the work the guys at Double Fine do, but that has nothing to do with this review or ultimately, the game that Brutal Legend is. I'm just being honest with my assessment.
@ LiathroidiDana:
You only named three of the negative points which I detailed in my review. Those things you mentioned, coupled with the fact that the main RTS mechanic (as I mentioned) feels like a chore instead of fun... and that the game seems to lack over all polish which hurts the overall experience... yes, I feel the score is justified.

While the game may not be as big in scope (which some may believe makes for a better experience), I think I like Uncharted 2 more. Of course, that boils down to personal opinion.
