- Re: Russia bans Modern Warfare 2, recalls all copies of game
The overreactions here are ridiculous.
Okay, the single-player campaign is strictly from a U.S./British perspective. Right, got it. What about the multiplayer? That's a HUGE component of the game. I know people who play the game every day but they haven't touched the single-player campaign. Why should those kinds of players in Russia be denied?
And for those defending Russia's position with ridiculous comments like "What if a game was made where all Americans are terrorists?" what have you been smoking and why aren't you sharing any of it with the rest of us?
The Russians are not terrorists in this game, and I never saw any indication where they were put in such a light. They're pawns, just like the Americans. The U.S. got the blame for the airport massacre, Russia responded not realizing the U.S. had nothing to do with it, so Americans believe it to be an unprovoked attack. Everyone is being played. Russia attacks, America defends. That does not paint all Russians as terrorists, nor did I see anything that states otherwise!
That said, I fully understand if the Russian people won't find enjoyment in shooting their own. I wouldn't be comfortable with it either. But the overreactions and broad brushes that I'm reading here are completely unwarranted.
And this is coming from someone who's older than most Dtoid-ers and lived 1/2 of my life under the spectre of the Cold War. Even then, I knew the "enemy" was not the people or even the military but the government that held the power over all of that. ... view replies

I don't see any anger or hatred at Russia in the game. Keep in mind, the whole crux of the game is that the U.S. got successfully blamed for an incident to which Russia responded the way they did. So, when it comes to "bad guys", in truth the Americans are the bad guys with respect to the story line. The US view in the game is one of defense more than offense.

Whereas it wasn't bug-free, it didn't have nearly as many glitches as you implied you had with the 360 version. I do, however, agree 100% with your position on driving. Screw realism. SR2's driving physics were far more enjoyable.
@Magnalon: After I beat SR2 the first time, I bought the first SR for the 360. There are some things that SR2 did a lot better, but for the most part SR is SR2 but slightly more linear with no aircraft and less impressive graphics. I would still recommend it. You might also want to look for a used copy of SR2 on places like Amazon.
One thing that I love about SR2 is that even when everything is beaten, you can still drive and fly around as you wish whereas SR's ending is rather ... final.
