- Re: Modern Warfare 2 becomes huge PC success
The outcry just seemed like a big deal to us because we are steeped in the gaming community. The actual number of people who care about gaming enough to know it was a step backwards is quite small. It's a huge mainstream game. I'd be willing to bet most people who bought it, even on PC, were not even aware of what had changed. ... view replies

I don't really get the appeal of a game that bases itself around user content. I like user content, but I think it should be something that builds up around a solid game, not the main selling point of the game. I guess it kinda has to be like this on a console game though. ... view replies

Not surprising, I rarely hear video games mentioned in my everyday life. I heard jocks and chavs discussing their experience at the midnight launch. And then nearly coming to blows over the effectiveness of the P-90.

Its inevitable that the first people to start and join groups like these are people who really cared about the game. It's hard to walk away from that. I was pretty lucky that it was easy for me not to buy it. Personally, I felt like I had missed out on not buying CoD4 and was looking to get in on the ground floor this time around with the PC version. After the revelation about how they were handling the game, I decided against it. I didn't join a group, I didn't tell anyone else not to buy it. I just don't think its worth the money, and I don't like it as a direction for PC gaming. ... view replies

Hacking is not even a big deal in any online game I have played on the PC. I have seen about two hackers in over 1000 hours of TF2. One was promptly kicked for aimbotting as sniper and the other was a speed-hacking civilian heavy. Which was hilarious.

- Re: Nerd Rage: PC gamers start Modern Warfare 2 petition
I find dedicated servers make playing online much more bearable for me personally. And I don't just mean in terms of host issues, lag, and auto-matching. With a server list you can build up a nice list of favorites, each one with it's own regulars who are like-minded to your own style of play. Serious or not so serious. Modded or vanilla. You actually meet new people through the game. Each one is someones property, so they generally have moderators looking after the place. It's like visiting your favorite bar instead of walking down a random alley to drink with the people there. With no dedicated servers, you basically have to only play with real life friends, or roll the dice on how many assholes you end up playing with. I think this a big reason why the XBL community gets such a bad reputation.
This whole thing is taking away the things that make the PC an "open" platform. I think it's a bad move for all of gaming. As consoles become more and more like PCs I would have expected things like modding and custom content to become more common on them. It just seems like a backwards step. ... view replies
