Holy induced motion sickness Batman! That was my first thought upon starting up this 3D version of the original The Legend of Zelda. Granted, it didn’t make me sick, only a little dizzy at points, but I know there are plenty of people out there that are more sensitive to first-person experiences like this.
This project is currently a work in progress by TIGSource member Radix. He only has the beginning of the first dungeon done so far, but hopes to eventually “remake the overworld and at least another dungeon or two if not the whole game.” Groovy. Vertigo aside, I’d certainly be willing to give the finished project a try.
If you want to see what a first-person Link adventure could be like, download the demo from here. The controls are pretty simple: move around with the WASD keys, look around with the mouse, left-click attacks, and right click blocks with the shield.

It was inevitable, I suppose. Not even Valve’s digital distribution service Steam -- one of the few remaining bastions of "proper" PC gaming -- could remain safe from the terrible horrors of casual gaming. 2012 has clearly come early. … Ok, so that’s probably blowing things out of proportion a bit, especially since Peggle has been available on the service since forever. All that’s really going on is that a new “Family Gaming” section has been added to the Steam Store. This section will feature games from publishers like ValuSoft, Sandlot Games, MumboJumbo, Her Interactive, and PopCap.
Granted, some of the games look to be of … questionable quality -- Super Granny, Miss Popularity, Dr. Daisy Pet Vet, etc -- but there’s plenty of good stuff in the section as well; World of Goo (not to be confused with World of Zoo), Crayon Physics Deluxe, and Sam & Max all make appearances. I guess there’s around a 50/50 chance that browsing parents will pick out a fun game for their kids.
To help promote some quick sales, Valve has placed several titles in the Family Section on sale. Although most of the games in the sale look like they fall into the aforementioned “questionable quality” segment, it’s a good opportunity to pick up Plants vs. Zombies for $2.50 off the normal price.

Last week, Topher let us know about Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, an update to the classic move-back-and-forth-while-shooting-those-aliens-that-are-also-moving-back-and-forth simulator that includes such radical changes as being able to move up and down. Following in Taito’s stead, Namco has announced that an updated version of one of its own classic IP’s will be hitting the App Store in due time: Pac-Man.
Entitled Pac-Man REMIX, it adds power-ups, traps, and bosses to the standard ghost-eating. Here are some of the new abilities Pac-Man can gain access to: - Jump – jump over ghosts or walls
- Lucky Item – all the pellets turn into Power Pellets
- Ninja Item – Trick the ghosts with an illusion of PAC-MAN
REMIX will feature thirty levels with a giant boss-ghost -- such as the UFO piloting Pinky pictured above -- showing up after every five.
No specific release date has been mentioned yet, but it is confirmed that REMIX will be sold for $5.99. To get a look at the game in action, head over to Namco’s Web site for a short trailer.

I’m sure many of you were justifiably bummed when this week’s RetroforceGO! was canceled. Well, OverClocked ReMix has swooped in to rescue all you lonely retro fans -- and people who were just in the mood for some good music -- with the announcement that their fourteenth project album has just been released. The album is titled “Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption” and features remixed music from, you guessed it, Final Fantasy IV. That’s a game some of you like, right?
As with past albums, “Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption” is a collaboration by many of the top artists in the OC Remix community. This talented group of individuals cooked up 46 arrangements that are divided into three story acts, along with another eight bonus tracks, that clock in at over three hours of music.
The story acts’ structure is quite cool: titled “Betrayal,” “Strife,” and “Redemption,” they contain songs arranged as you would hear them if you were actually playing through the game. And although it’s been a while since I’ve played through Final Fantasy IV (it was still known as Final Fantasy II the last time I touched it), the memories started flooding back as I gave these remixes a listen; the whole work is a great fan-tribute to Nobuo Uematsu’s compositional skill.
The entire album can be downloaded here, free of charge, along with the artwork. And while you’re waiting for it to download, tell me in the comments what game you’d like OC Remix to give the album treatment to next.

Since SouthPeak Games was kind enough to send over some new screens from Atomic Motion’s first-person shooter/real-time strategy mash up Raven Squad, I figured I may as well as put them up for you all to see. After all, what else are you going to be looking at this early on a Saturday morning while possibly hung over?
But hey, these screens look quite a bit like those that we’ve already seen: six mercenaries in the Amazon rainforest blowing the hell out of other mercenaries. Luckily, in order to keep this post from being completely repetative, SouthPeak was also kind enough to pass along the news that Raven Squad has been styled after such over the top action masterpieces as Commando, Missing in Action, and Predator. That means we can expect an abundance of cheesy (but awesome) one-liners.
There’s also some info on three of the squad members who will presumably be uttering said one-liners. You can check that out after the jump. If you want. No pressure.

I’m sure this “news” will excite the many dozens ones of you that regularly hang out in Sony’s drab Second Life knockoff: the ability to take screen caps in Home probably isn’t far off. For those that don't remember, this feature was origionally shown off at Sony's E3 07 press conference, so it has been quite a while in coming. This exciting update came straight from the horse’s mouth, as America’s Home Manager Locust_Star revealed that "[It's] a simple feature that I know the devs are working on. My magic 8-ball says [it's] coming sooner rather than later." Great! Now I can look forward to taking pictures of the big pile of fake furniture that’s in the corner of my creepy avatar’s apartment. It’s reassuring to know that Sony’s dev teams have been hard at work on such essential features. I guess it’s since they’re so sure that Home will sell PS3s.

If the name Sands of Destruction sounds completely unfamiliar to you, that’s because Sega decided to rename the DS role-playing game World Destruction for its upcoming American release. I’m honestly not sure why Sega felt the need to change the name, though. Sure, the game’s setting contains a giant sand ocean, but the group of characters you control -- the World Destruction Committee -- is in fact trying to destroy the world.
Anyway, along with the name change, Sega brought word that Funimation will be handling the localization and distribution of the game’s similarly-named anime here in the US. I watched the 13 episode anime series when it came out in Japan last summer -- through totally legal means … probably -- and enjoyed it. The show wasn’t great, but it did entertain throughout, and it certainly turned out better than some other videogame-to-anime adaptations (*cough* Arc the Lad *cough* Star Ocean EX). It also has dancing cat people.
Sands of Destruction the game is set to come out in January 2010, while Sands of Destruction the anime will start releasing a few months later in “spring.” Do either interest you?

In a move that will prove popular with lovers of JOURNALISM everywhere, a recent entry on the ESRB’s Web site has revealed that Ubisoft is bringing a game called Imagine Reporter to the Nintendo DS. But what will this game about JOURNALISM entail, you ask? Using my skills of JOURNALISM I have copied and pasted the product summary directly below this paragraph so that you might be informed. This is a simulation game in which players assume the role of an aspiring journalist as she works her way from local reporter to the host of a TV news show. Players engage in mini-games such as taking notes, filming news segments, investigating photos, and interviewing people.
There you go, JOURNALISM in its finest, probably 2D form. I do take offence at the usage of the word “mini-games,” though. As anyone involved in any way with JOURNALISM well knows, there’s nothing mini about it; it’s hugely serious business in every situation. I can forgive it in this instance, though, since it was probably hastily scribbled by some office intern that is unfamiliar with the ways of proper JOURNALISM.
We here at Destructoid will keep you up date if and when any new information is shed on this totally serious, JOURNALISM understanding software that instructs neophytes (or JUSTIN, for short).

We don’t really know much at all about Agent. Rockstar’s making it. (If Take-Two top-brass are to be believed, it will turn out “very cool.”)
Now there’s a Web site, but this agent of insight kind of fails right now.
No trailers, no screens; not even looping music. Hastily set live?
Excited parties can just keep spamming F5 until something shows.

Tex Murphy series comes to Good Old Games this week. Futuristic dick.
You see, it’s set in a mid-century Frisco, shown through FMV’s.
Live action, in fact. The first three can be had now; others coming soon.
Anthony once said the games “managed not to suck.” That’s high praise indeed.
Check the gallery for some fuzzy pics. The games have no DRM.

The fine folks at Koei sent us a notice today that Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires is still, in fact, coming out on June 23 in both the US and EU. They probably felt the need to remind us due to the great distraction that was E3 2009 -- what with the shiny motion controllers and all. They also included 100 screens that show both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions in action. Since 100 screens are a bit much to look through, I went ahead and narrowed them down to an even 30. There’s also a picture of a cat that Niero forwarded along with the PR. It may or may not be relevant.
I’ve traditionally ignored past Empires releases, figuring them to just be Dynasty Warriors with a mediocre, turn-based strategy component tacked on, but I’m actually sort of tempted to give this one a try. That’s because I’ve been hooked on Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI lately. It may be slow-paced, and have a very underwhelming soundtrack, but it’s been entertaining. Hopefully Empires 6 will turn out to be the same.
Also, I have no idea why I’m posting this story instead of resident Dynasty Warriors expert Sim Sterling. He’s probably still distracted by pictures of the motordyke.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is looking pretty nice. While the idea of Assassin’s Do These Same Tedious Missions Over And Over Again Creed getting a sequel didn’t originally thrill me, I have to say, the footage of Ezio Firenze gliding around on Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine started to warm me up to the idea. The double face stab didn’t hurt either.
But Assassin’s Creed 2 isn’t going to be out until this November, which means that there’s still quite a while until we see how it turns out. Ubisoft must be pretty confident about its reception, though, since they’ve already gone and confirmed that an Assassin’s Creed 3 is pretty likely to be on the way.
When asked during a video interview at E3, associate producer Vincent Pontbriand assured that Ubisoft is “of course” thinking about the sequel’s sequel. No specific setting has apparently been pinned down, but Pontbriand stated that it would need to be at a “pivotal moment in history.” Though it can’t take place before the events in the original game, apparently.
He also says that there “are plans” for Assassin’s Creed 2 DLC, but was unable to go into any detail.
So does this news actually surprise anyone? Both events seemed pretty likely, given that the first Assassin’s Creed sold quite well.
