In a recent interview with The Times of Lodon Dan Houser, one of the big wigs at Rockstar, has been caught talking about GTA V, which we all knew was coming out, but it's always good to know where they are in development on it. Houser says they're hard at work on Rockstar's upcoming Red Dead Revolver game and are also putting together the pieces for GTA V.
"We'll think of a city first, then the characters,” said Houser. He also explains that the script he will end up co-writing will run to around 1,000 pages, nearly ten times as much as a feature film. Feature films are mentioned because most of the article is actually about the unfair treatment Rockstar and the gaming industry in general gets when it comes to violence in games.
Houser actually has some great quotes and opinions on the subject so I'm hoping that this bit of non-news promoted by Captain Obvious actually prompts you to head over there and check out the entire article or maybe Jim's post on the story already did that.

Why the hell is Heihachi in space? Is this explained in the console versions of Tekken 6? It's nice to see the game looking so smooth on the PSP, but you can't just throw something as absurd as an old ninja in a space suit into your trailer and not explain it. You hear me, Namco Bandai?
The second trailer below simply shows off more of the fighting action. There's kicking, punching and other such things. The PSP versions will also have some new levels and content for people to enjoy. If you're on the fence about this one check out the videos and then see if you would like to pick it up on November 24 or if you'll just stick with the console version of the game.
OnLive has been promising a lot since it made such a splash at E3. We've had some time with the guys behind it and are still unsure that it can deliver on all its amazing promises. Every game, any time, everywhere no matter what your internet connection is? It sounds a bit implausable. Add another grain of salt to the salt shaker as the guys behind OnLive are now claiming it will function over mobile phones as well. This means that games will not just be "streaming" to the home, but to mobile phones as well.
"Today, at a Wedbush financial conference in New York I showed OnLive running simultaneously on two iPhones, a TV, and a computer," said CEO Steve Perlman. He then added, "It's important to understand that a cell phone is a very different beast than TV, PC or Mac ... currently, games on OnLive are tuned for TVs and computers, so initially, it's the Community and Social elements of OnLive that we're most excited about on mobile devices."
I can understand having the social aspects over OnLive, but I don't even understand how full games would work over phones. Maybe they're just discussing cellphone games over the service, but if it's full game one has to question the functionality of it and if anyone wants to even play full retail games over their phone.

Man, this holiday might start to be known for broken street dates from GameStop as two more high profile games received the corporate go ahead to get released before their release dates. Three stores in Jersey City, NJ, released both Assassin's Creed II and Left 4 Dead 2ahead of their November 17 release date. The stores, numbers 4627, 4260 and 6005, said it was because a local independent retailer had done the same.
Kotaku gave the stores a call and all three said the early release was in order to be competitive with the independent store and that they had called corporate to make sure it was OK to sell the game early. This broken street date was for those stores only. No reaction from Ubisoft or Valve yet, but gaming companies have to be wondering how they can put a stop to this. It was just last week that MW2 was released earlywithout permission from Activsion, but with permission from execs at GameStop.
And what of these elusive independent retailers who keep leaking games early? I would think a smaller retailer wouldn't want to risk getting cut off from the developer for dropping the game early and thus wouldn't risk it. Could GameStop simply be claiming others are releasing the games early so they could get the drop on their competition? While I'm wildly speculating, it's possible they were also involved in the Kennedy shooting.

Technically this rumor has been around for quite some time, but there's some new evidence that God of War III is going to have online co-op in it. Nick McCandless, from The Gamer Access, played the GoW III demo and loved it so much he desperately needed more info on the game. He thus logged onto Sony's Retail Loyalty Site, where those in retail can learn about Sony products by taking a quiz. There he found a very interesting question: "Will God of War III have online cooperative modes?" The answer was yes.
Before we all get really excited or really disappointed (depending on what you think of GoW co-op) it should be noted that Nick "has quotes from developers just laying around" Chester was told by design director Todd Papy in February that multiplayer is "definitely something we're looking into. But as far as any multiplayer experience, this is a solo campaign. Kratos has never really had a buddy for the trip so ... but we are looking at downloadable content, and also Home support."
Were they lying to us? Why would they do that? We even gave them a friendship bracelet after the last time they told us things that weren't true. Seems strange that Sony would be educating retailers with false information, though. If this turns out to be true, know this: Sony has broken Mr. Destructoid's heart for the last time. He won't suffer their lies anymore, it hurts too much.
While Tony Hawk RIDE and its skateboard controller don't land until next week, it seems that Activision may already be looking to the future of the franchise and its new controller. superannuation is reporting that over the past two weeks Robomodo, the developer behind RIDE, have posted around 15 job openings. These positions are all on a job for an unannounced extreme sports game.
I think that we can all come to the pretty obvious assumption that Activision wants Robomodo hard at work on the next Tony Hawk game, possibly for next year. After all, the whole yearly thing is working great for Guitar Hero and Call of Duty, why not branch out? Plus, it would help to convince people to buy RIDE if there was more than one game that used its unique controller. Of course if people don't go out and actually buy RIDE it will be interesting to see if this unannounced game ever sees the late of day. I know that Nick "doesn't skateboard" Chester and I both found the controller less than optimal, but we could be in the minority.

Having now charged through Modern Warfare 2's single player twice I am confident that I still have no idea who any of the other guys in the squad are other than Price and Soap. I know there was witty banter going on here and there, but it's hard to pay attention to it when the Russians are trying to rip you to shreds. Evidently, there are some popular characters in the squad and Ghost is one of them. He's so popular in fact that he got his own comic book and now he might be getting his own game. At the launch event for MW2 in the UK Craig Fairbrass, the man who voiced Ghost in MW2 and Gaz in the previous game (conspiracy!), had a few choice words about the future of his masked character.
“I did in the last game a voice for a character called Gaz and in this game I’m now voicing a guy called Ghost, who now just got a spin-off comic of his own and they’re talking about another little game to go with it,” Fairbrass said, “so, I’m quite excited about it. It’s grown and grown and grown.”
He was then questioned on why people got so excited over Ghost and responded, “I don’t know. It’s the whole thing I suppose of not knowing who he is. He’s like the head of the SAS and… I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it, I mean it just gets bigger and bigger each year.”
"Another little game" to go along with a comic book sounds like some flash game that accompanies the comic book's launch, but who knows. Since the world is evidently unsure of who he is, and people who paid attention to the game's characters have become attached to him, this could be a big time spin-off.
It's 4 a.m. in the morning where I am, and if you're up right now you've either just gotten home from a fantastic night and can't even read these words, live in a place where the time is different or you have insomnia. If you're in the latter group, I've got a way to kill another 35 minutes before the sun comes up. Above is the Assassin's Creed short film, Assassin's Creed: Lineage. It was originally released in three short segments, but now you can see it all from start to finish.
The film leads up to the beginning of Assassin's Creed II, and chronicles Ezio's father. It is surprisingly well done, with solid special effects, impressive fight scenes, good acting and a cliche "hero getting ready montage" in the opening. I was actually only planning on watching about five minutes of it and writing up this post, but found myself drawn into watching the entire thing and not even realizing how much time had passed. If this is the kind of time and attention Ubisoft put into a side project for the game, then the game itself should be way more kick ass then its repetitive predecessor.

Hold on. Let me get out my lighter fluid and my large fan because I'm about to douse some fanboy flames in the stuff then fan them until they're miles high. I know some of you had to be wondering which system would sell more of the most popular game EVAR, and now we have that answer. Sony fanboys, you lost. Xbox 360 copies of the game outsold PS3 copies by a ratio of 2-to-1.
Now, these numbers aren't official, but they do come from the Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, Dennis Durkin. At the BMO Capital Markets Digital Entertainment Conference in New York, the probably very rich man said, "Initial feedback from retailers is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 [on Xbox 360] has outsold the PS3 2:1.” After lighting a cigar with a $100 bill he then went on to point out that Tuesday, Nov. 10, the day Modern Warfare 2 launched, was the day that the Xbox Live record for most users online at once was broken with over 2 million users.

If you are going to be skeptical about one thing for the rest of the year I'd suggest it is these screens. They're from a Polish site which claims to have gotten its hands on the paperwork from the whole Bethesda vs. Interplay lawsuit, and some of that paperwork included images from Interplay's forever in development Fallout Online, also known as Project V13.
The poster claims that these screens and artwork were sent into the court as proof that Interplay had been hard at work at making an MMORPG of Fallout and thus Bethesda has no right to sue Interplay over their lack of development on the game. So if these are real, what do we think? Doesn't look that impressive or like Interplay has done that much "developing" on it. Hopefully they turned in a bit more proof of actual progress on the game. We all know that screenshots and artwork do not a game make.

The guys at High Voltage have been a bit silent since E3 and the launch of The Conduit. After announcing The Grinder and Gladiator A.D. I'm sure they're hard at work actually developing those games, but it seems they've got some news coming up.
In all likelihood the announcement will be something for The Grinder, but maybe they're working on some big new game based on a massive franchise. Remember, before High Voltage got all big and famous with their attempts to actually develop good games on the Wii they were best known for their licensed games. It could also be that both of their upcoming games are making their way to other systems. Most likely just release dates and such, though. Don't get too excited.

You know what sucks about real life? It's only from one perspective. Where are the variance in genres? You can only play real life in first person, and we all know too much of one type of genre gets boring. We need variety, and now we can have it. Introducing (a year or so after it was revealed) the Avatar Machine. This is a suit that allows the wearer to view himself in the third person, and the video above shows off its newest iteration. It's like putting yourself in a videogame of the real world.
While the technology is cool, creator (or possibly just video poster) Marc Owens own description of the device hints at how disturbing putting yourself into third person actually is.
Avatar Machine is a wearable system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head mounted interface. The system potentially allows for a diminished sense of social responsibility, and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment.
Not the greatest advertisement for the tech, considering ditching social norms and moral behaviors isn't always the best idea. However, I doubt we will all be wearing these any time soon so mass marketability is most likely not the goal.

What has always been completely amazing about the Ace Attorney games is their incredible quality throughout the series. Most game series start losing steam around number three, but the adventures of Phoenix Wright, and more recently Apollo Justice, have always been top notch. The games have consistently featured great writing and fantastic mysteries, and the next game in the series,Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgworth seem to be no different.
How do I know? Why I've played the first level, and so can you. Our friends over at Japanator have gotten their hands on a flash version of the point-and-click adventure and it has the entire first case on it. The gameplay is a bit different since you're taking on the role of a prosecutor, but it still has all the classic humor and style of the Ace Attorney games. Anyway, isn't everyone tired of defending the wrongly accused? Let's send some jerks to jail for a change.

A action/puzzle game with touch screen controls and a quirky art style? It's gotta be a DS game, right? Evidently not. Yuji Naka, former Sonic Team lead and now head of Prope, who made the criminally never-played Let's Tap, has revealed his latest game. Ivy the Kiwi is a game where players draw vines of ivy in order to guide and launch an ever walking baby kiwi through 50 different levels. You may check it out in the video above and then start wondering why it's on Windows phone and not the DS.
Actually, there may be plenty of reasons that the quirky little game is showing up away from Nintendo's money printing press, but none of them are going to stand up to the argument that the game would receive a hell of a lot more attention on the DS then it's going to get on Windows phone, especially considering it's getting a holiday release in December. Games sell well at this time of year. I'd say I'm just upset about missing out on this game, but it doesn't look all that amazing anyway, despite the developer's pedigree and the art style.
