In case you didn't hear, the Spike VGAs are coming up, featuring the fabulous Nick Chester as a judge. If you haven't voted yet, you can head right on over here and vote. While you're voting, take a look at the nominees. Do you notice anything odd? Something missing, perhaps?
I know! I couldn't believe it either!
The fact that Killzone 2 is not up for GOTY is nothing short of a travesty. While I just wept quietly to myself in outrage, other more proactive gamers took to the internet to rage about it.
Hit the jump.

Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza/Solstice is coming, and Eid recently passed.
Do you send out holiday cards to your friends and family? If not, you're a terrible person. Don't worry though, Valve has you covered!
Just announced, you can pick up a set of Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, or Team Fortress 2 holiday greeting cards. And trust me, they're amazing.
You can get a 10 pack of cards of the game of your choice for $15.95. Each Left 4 Dead game has one pack, while Team Fortress 2 has two separate ones. There's a really good chance I'm going to buy a pack of each and send them to my non-gaming family -- the cards are that amazing. My brother is definitely getting the Jarate card, and the Sniper bulls-eye shirt will probably get photocopied and sent to all the people I regularly play TF2 with.
The cards are available at Valve's store. Which pack is your favorite?

You might think that this week would obviously be about Modern Warfare 2. It's not. I am so sick of the news this week revolving around that game that I couldn't bring myself to read through all the reviews and YouTube videos about it. Sorry. I assume all the 13 year olds are too busy throwing racial slurs at each other anyway to show up at comment on anything this week anyway. Well, I assumed that, until I found this.
This week, we'll be taking a look at the October NPD numbers. Hit the jump for the charts, and then to see some fanboys desperately try to rationalize.

This was probably the absolute last thing I expected to hear this month, but it's true. A new sequel to Lufia was announced today in Famitsu by Square Enix, and I couldn't be happier. It's currently titled Estpolis, (which is how the games are known in Japan), but unfortunately there's no information available yet on what systems the game will be coming to, when the game will release, or if we can expect to see a US version.
If you have no idea what Lufia is, it's a criminally under-appreciated RPG series from the SNES days. Often overshadowed by the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, it combined solid RPG gameplay with some unique puzzle solving and a rather decent story. The last time the US saw a Lufia game was in 2002, when Ruins of Lore came out on the GBA. A bit odd that Square is deciding to revive this series, but I'm certainly not complaining. Expect to see more details when the next issue of Famitsu is out.

This week, we'll be taking a look at a review for Dragon Age. While there's a little bit of complaining about scores, it's really more about the bickering that happens between 360 and PS3 owners. IGN rated the two console versions the same, but Gamespot gave the PS3 version 0.5 more points than the 360 version!
Who's right?!

Well, mostly.
As we usually do when something Left 4 Dead-related releases, we've all the writing on the walls in the just-released Left 4 Dead 2 demo for you to look at/read. Unlike the previous games, the survivors here seem to be a lot more concerned with their own safety, and less with making fun of other people. Apparently these guys actually care about the infection and surviving! Losers.
There's still a small amount of sass, but unfortunately there's no epically bad poems or internet memes. We do hear a rumor though that people can carry the disease without becoming infected (yet). Are all the protagonists of the Left 4 Dead games carriers, or are they just flat out immune? There doesn't seem to be a consensus on how immunity/being a carrier works on the wall.
As much as I love them, I think I would wet myself if the finale for the final campaign of the sure-to-come Left 4 Dead 3 was you fighting a finally-infected Zoey, Louis, Bill, and Francis.
If you don't have the demo yet, hit the jump for a full transcript of the wall writing, and check out the pics in the gallery.

I don't think we'll be getting anything that will top last week's Uncharted 2 edition for a while, but we have some decent material this week to tide you over. I think everyone knew what was going to happen when the 360 version of Bayonetta got an amazing 40/40 from Famitsu, while the PS3 version got a disgusting 38/40. After having to hear about how great Uncharted 2 is for the last couple weeks, the 360 fanboys have been looking for something to lord over their PS3 enemies, and they got it in this. Won't you join me as a bunch of 'tards try to brag about a game scoring two points higher?

You may have seen our previous coverage of League of Legends, and now you can finally get in on the action. Riot Games has announced today that LoL is entering open beta on October 27th, which means anyone who wants to play can. If you're interested in checking out the Defense of the Ancients themed game, head on over to the official website, where you can create a beta account for when the game officially opens to everyone. In addition, those who join the beta will be able to keep their accounts and whatever bonuses and experience they earn for their summoner for the actual game. If you somehow missed the massive wave of closed beta invites, will you be signing up for open beta?

Borderlands is almost here, and judging from the constant messages, insults, and death threats I've gotten in the last few weeks as I've been playing it on Steam, I would consider it eagerly anticipated. As I was driving to work the other day, I heard Adam Sessler on the radio talking about videogames. He was mostly talking about Uncharted 2, but he mentioned that Borderlands was the "dark horse" of this gaming season. I don't know if he's played it or not, but that's a good way to describe it. It's releasing in a very busy season with a lot of stellar games, and I think there's a real danger it may get overlooked for the likes of Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Don't let that happen. It's not a perfect game, and it has a few noticeable problems, but I can't seem to stop playing it. Hit the jump for the full review.

You may remember the Secret World trailer and concept art we showed you a little over a month ago. An upcoming MMO from Funcom, Secret World is set in modern times and has no classes or levels, instead opting for an entirely skill-based system -- something not seen very often in the MMO world. Each player will belong to one of three 'secret societies', all fighting each other for something called anima. The apparently relatively old website Dark Days Are Coming is still live but we missed it the first time around, and it's a slow news day, so here we go again! You can enter your name for beta access. After taking a dramatic personality test to determine which 'secret society' you best fit in with, you're asked to enter your name and email. Those who do will get a chance at beta access, along with a newsletter, dev updates, some screenshots and wallpapers, and some in-game items once the game goes live. Apparently I best fit with the 'Dragon' society, which sound like the assholes of the game. Figures. Anyway, sign up for marketing stuff, and you might get into the beta.

Product pages have just gone live on Steam for both the regular and Digital Deluxe versions of Dragon Age: Origins, and it looks like those who pre-order from Steam will be getting a separate bonus item, the Wicked Oath ring, in addition to the Memory Band preorder bonus being offered by every retailer. The Wicked Oath ring boosts your combat and damage abilities, and looks like it will be great for melee based characters. In contrast, the Direct 2 Drive unique preorder bonus was announced a while back as the Dalish Ring, which gives you health and health regeneration boosts, while GameStop is getting the Feral Wolf Charm which, in addition to giving you a health regeneration and armor bonus, apparently makes you 'enchanted by scantily clad witches'. While the Steam page is live, at the time I wrote this you couldn't actually pre-order the game yet. Nevertheless, it's clear that the option will be coming soon. You can see the page for the regular version of the game here, while clicking here takes you to the Digital Deluxe version. Which pre-order bonus most appeals to you? If you're getting the game, are you gonna nab the Digital Deluxe version, or stick with the regular one?

Want Saints Row 2 on PC? Don't have much money? Good news. If you buy it today, you can get it for $7.50, which is a pretty impressive $22.49 off of the regular price. If you're interested in the deal, head on over to Steam and pick it up. I didn't really pay much attention to this game when it came up, but for $7.50 I just might pick it up when I get home today. It's for today only though, so if you want it you gotta buy it now. Anyone planning on picking this up? Is it worth it?
