While the jump from Assassin's Creed to its sequel brought about a whole new set of faces and places, don't expect the same for the follow up.
In its third quarter financial conference call today, Ubisoft revealed that the Ubisoft Montreal-developed title would not only star Ezio, but would take place in Rome. There, the assassin will continue his quest to destroy the Templar Order, this time at its source.
The title, which is said to feature an important multilayer component, could ship anytime between holiday 2010 or March 2011.
Personally, I find it a bit disappointing that Ubisoft isn't taking the Assassin's Creed story line in a such a direction that would introduce gamers to new assassin's and a completely different change of scenery. It's incredibly likely that Ubisoft will reveal more at E3, so until then, I'll continue to be excited for the follow up to one of my favorite games of 2009.

Because the 2004 Xbox title Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball needed a sequel, it's getting one this year, thanks to Majesco.
The publisher has announced that Greg Hastings Paintball 2 will be hitting Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii this September. The game features both single and multiplayer gameplay modes and events based in real-life paintball fields. The game also has a new feature called the "Cheat Meter," which lets you wipe off pain splatters before getting caught. Is that something people do?
Also on tap is downloadable content, because once you get a taste of Greg Hastings Paintball 2, you're going to want more. The game is being developed by Super X Studios who have previously developed a photo safari title for the PC, as well as an outer space screen saver.

If we were to guess, we'd say that Square Enix's and Eidos' Deus Ex 3 has a name now -- Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
It's a safe bet, considering that Square Enix filed a trademark for that name in Europe. And then in North America. Human Revolution it is, then.
Deus Ex 3 was announced as a PC only title, but rumors and speculation point to the it making its ways to consoles as well.

In an odd and surprising turn, NIS America has changed the name of its PlayStation Portable title Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman to What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord?!.
NIS says the name change is because "the original title had a conflict of interest with an existing IP." While the publisher doesn't get specific, said conflict could be related in some way to DC Comics' Batman character (although that's not been confirmed).
"We did not intend to create any conflict," the statements reads, "so we have decided to change the title."
Fair enough. The sequel to the original game, the game formerly known as Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! 2 (and now What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord ?! 2) will be released on May 4.

Today we take to the sea, with an exclusive look at "The Krakek," an Cybran faction experimental submarine in Supreme Commander 2.
"It has a very intimidating look," says Gas Powered Games Chris Taylor. "Its looks match its firepower."
Obviously designed after the mythical sea monster of the same name, Supreme Commander 2's Kraken can be used to destroy nearby ships, aircraft, as well as enemy submarines. The Kraken's usefulness isn't confined to water, however -- bringing the unit close to shore will allow it to attack structures and land units.
Be sure not to miss yesterday's look at the "Bomb Bouncer." Tomorrow we take a look at a Supreme Commander 2 unit inspired by the real-life AC130 gunship, the AC1000. Yes, the discrepancy in numbers gives you a good idea of what we're dealing with.

When it comes to downloadable content and Dante's Inferno, Visceral and Electronic Arts aren't messing around. In fact, according to a slip that shipped inside the retail game box, they've got it planned through at least through April.
February Soul Packs Poet Costume Animated Feature Film Costume
March Prequel Level
April New In-Game Abilities Trials of St. Lucia
The prequel level refers to the "Dark Forest," which PlayStation 3 owners can get for free (via a redeemable code found inside the game box). According to the description, it "includes a new costume, relic, and prequel level featuring two new enemies, an expanded storyline, and more than 30 minutes of new gameplay!"
"Trials of St. Lucia" is the biggie, though -- a full challenge mode expansion that will allow players to not only design their own challenges, but to fight through them with a second player who will control a second player, the female St. Lucia. Created levels can also be shared and download.
Dante's Inferno is out today, and if you're curious as to how it is, be sure to check out our review.

Little known fact: the General Knoxx of "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx," the upcoming third Borderlands DLC expansion, is a real person. Well, real enough to have a Twitter account at least.
"okay. so my secretary signed me up for this thing.apparently i have to be careful about how many words i type or it won't send the entire me," he writes before running out of characters in his introductory Tweet.
If you're wondering what the deal with the lower-case is, Knoxx explains that "no one capitalizes in the future," and that his "tweets time travel." Knoxx has also already taken a picture of himself in a mirror with his "cellular ear ringer," and has begun talking sh*t to fellow Twitter users.
"watch your step boy. i lost my eye in a fight with myself," he threatens to one. "ps. i won."
Rumor has it that General Knoxx just may be delivering some actual (useful?) information on the upcoming DLC, so he's probably worth following his "tweetergrams."

If cheering wasn't your thing, you might want to consider All Star Karate by THQ. It's the publisher's new title in the "All Star" franchise, following the popular (no, really) All Star Cheer Squad.
The Wii title puts players in the role of a young martial artist in training who, in an attempt to save an old man from a group of ninjas, has to fight head-to-head against a karate master. What... the... ? Yeah, so in a Karate Kid inspired "twist," you're trained by the elderly karate master in an effort to earn a black belt. The game will feature full support fo the Wii MotionPlus (if you choose), and will let you use your choice of the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo or two Wii Remotes.
All Star Karate is scheduled to ship this spring, so you might want to wait before starting sh*t with any neighborhood ninjas. Because, you know, this game is gonna make a man out of you. Or a tough pre-teen. Or something.

It's already been confirmed that Burnout developer Criterion has its hands in the Need for Speed franchise. But if Burnout's fast pace and twisted steel isn't your thing, don't worry -- Electronic Arts has confirmed that it has not one but two Need for Speed titles in the works.
Holiday of 2010 will see the release of Criterion's Need for Speed title, referred to by EA Chief Operating Officer John Schappert on today's financial call as an action title. Early 2011 (January-March) will see the release of a second Need for Speed title, this one a simulation title, possibly a follow up to last year's Need for Speed: SHIFT.
You can can play both titles, no one's stopping you. But if you had to choose, what would you prefer? A Need for Speed simulation title or a Need for Speed action title?

If you're an avid Electronic Arts fan and just have to have everything they own, you might want to tighten your belt for the next year. There's a lot of games, and in the publisher's fiscal earnings details released today, release windows for some major games were revealed.
Of note, Visceral's Dead Space 2 is confirmed for an early 2011 release, along with a new Spore title, the Epic Games/People Can Fly shooter, a new Dragon Age game, and an unannounced action title. Yes, I meant to write a new Dragon Age.
Hit the jump for a full breakdown of EA's key titles for its fiscal year 2011 (via Shacknews).

When Quantic Dream CEO and co-founder David Cage watches movies or television, he dreams of the day when game designers can have the same liberties. Cage, whose mature interactive drama Heavy Rain hits stores later this month, says he feels that censorship in games is "probably the strictest in all the entertainment industry."
"One territory asked me to change one scene because it was too emotional," the 40-year-old Cage tells me. "I read the email ten times to make sure I got it right. What do you mean 'too emotional'? Can you change the end of Titanic, it's really too sad. Same thing for Gone With the Wind -- just add a couple of jokes near the end so we don't cry. Woody Allen, too funny. [Francis Ford Coppola] too real. [Martin] Scorsese too violent."
He makes a point to say that he doesn't compare himself to "these masters," as he puts it. But he does say their goals are the same -- to create emotions.

In the first of five exclusive videos, Gas Powered Game's CEO Chris Taylor gives us a look at the "Bomb Bouncer" unit from Supreme Commander 2, the upcoming real-time strategy title for PC and Xbox 360.
The "Bomb Bouncer" is one of the experimental units you'll be able to choose from when siding with the game's Cybran faction. The spider-like walker protects itself and surrounding friendly units with a massive umbrella-like shield, bouncing back incoming enemy fire.
Even sweeter, as incoming fire pounds the shield, it stores charge for something called the "Mega Blast," which is exactly what it sounds like -- a mega blast that does incredible damage. The "Mega Blast" can be charged by using stored reserves before going into battle as well.
As Taylor puts it, the "Bomb Bouncer" is only one of Supreme Commander 2's "over-the-top" experimental units. Watch the video above to see it in action, and check back tomorrow for a peek at another unit, The Kraken.

At Microsoft's X10 event this week, Lionhead and Peter Molyneux will be bringing a demonstration of Fable III along for the ride. And according to Molyneux, notorious for making bold statements, you have no idea what you're in for.
"There's some very, very big things happening in Fable III," he told Game Reactor in Copenhagen last week," and it's really going to upset people. I'm really scared when I go out and tell people what it is [that] they're going to get super pissed off. They really are."
But he adds, "it's the right thing to do, man. I'm sure it's the right thing to do."
We already know that Fable III will support Project Natal is some way, and it's likely that this announcement (which will be demonstrated at X10) has some connection. While I can't begin to guess the specifics, I'd guess that it's likely that Natal will be required in order to play Fable III... and yeah, that would probably piss a few people off.
X10 takes place this Thursday, February 11 in San Francisco, and we'll be there to deliver the news to you. Sorry ahead of time if it pisses you off.

Following the reveal that Brock Lesnar would be the cover boy for its upcoming UFC Undisputed 2010, THQ has revealed the first details for the follow-up to last year's hit title.
In the gameplay department, Undisputed 2010 adds a new "Sway System" which offers full upper body and head control, as well as a new ground "Posture System." New moves and cage positions have been added to the mix as well, including moves from Sambo, Karate, and Greco-Roman Wrestling, in addition to the new Southpaw stance.
Also new to Undisputed 2010 will be the ability to form fight camps and leagues, training your players and then taking them online in a "virtual UFC world." The Career Mode will return, including a new "Game Is Watching You" system that will take note of your actions and influence in-game commentary, opponent A.I., and other elements of career progression. The aforementioned online fight camps and leagues will also be integrated with the career -- you'll be able to engage in co-op sparring sessions with others in your camp to increase cred, popularity. Sponsorships are apparently influenced by player interactions during "on-camera" interviews and weigh-ins.
Outside of the career, the game adds three new modes: Title Mode, where you'll simply fight through a weight class and then defend your title; a Title Defense Mode; and a Tournament Mode that will let you fight in a 16-player individual or team tournament locally.
UFC Undisputed 2010 ships on May 25, which a few days shy of just a year after the last game's release, which hit shelves on May 19, 2009 in North America.
