Media Molecule has heard your cries, and have delivered -- Sonic the Hedgehog costumes are coming to LittleBigPlanet in December.
That's the good news. Bad news, it's based on Sonic Unleashed, which is probably not how you'd like to remember Sonic's speedy little hero. Regardless, that's the only way you'll get costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik, and -- gasp -- Sonic the Werehog.
If my preview of ModNation Racers wasn't enough for you, or if you were all "tl;dr," then this post is for you.
Sony and United Front Games dumped a bunch of straight up game footage videos on us, in addition to the packaged trailer I posted along with my hands-on preview and details. The first one, seen above, gives you a better idea of how the game's track designer works. It's overwhelming, easy to use, and completely awesome all at the same time.
Hit the jump to check out some of the game's character creation in action, as well a video of the game's racing in action.
ModNation Racers is slated for release in 2010, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
Along with the first in its series of "Hellbook" videos, THQ sent us a mess of information about the weapons and powers that will appear in the upcoming Darksiders.
From what we're told, War will purchase weapons and upgrades by trading souls to Vulgrim, who will equip the horseman with Wrath powers. They all sound terrifying, too -- Affliction, Blade Geyser, Immolation, and Stoneskin. I don't know what any of that stuff means as far as the game is concerned, but my guess is that anything that steps in the way of War is basically f*cked. Well, at least that's the plan.
Hit the jump for images of some of the gear that you'll find in the game, along with fancy blurbs written by THQ.
"For some reason the main character feels very Space Marine'ish to me, but that might just be since DoW/2 were also THQ products.
Really great to hear Mark Hamill's voice work in this short vide..."...
Along with a USB stick containing the opening of the upcoming Nintendo DS title The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Nintendo sent me a wooden train whistle. Oh, and there were also some pretty neat pieces of artwork on the USB stick, too.
But what you're interested in is the train whistle. So I put the rest of today's work aside to spend some hands-on time with the train whistle, just for you guys. We'll have an updated preview of Spirit Tracks soon, but you want your train whistle coverage as soon as possible, and far be it from me to keep you from it.
Once you're confident that you've acquired enough wooden train whistle knowledge, hit the jump for the opening "cinematic" from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which hits stores on December 7.
I can't hear you guys over all of the shouting about the reveal of No More Heroes: Hero's Paradise for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This updated version of the once-Wii-exclusive was announced recently for release in Japan, featuring updated high definition graphics and set for release as early as February.
Bad news, though -- looks like it doesn't have a US publisher in Ubisoft, who will publishing No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle for the Wii in 2010.
"Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions," a company spokesperson told G4 in regards to the updated PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the original.
Sad news, indeed. That doesn't mean, however, that it won't be coming to North America. Another publisher -- one that likes gamers, I'd imagine -- may pick it up. Cross your fingers.
"I don't care who publishes it, i just want that freaking game. I've played the Wii version through and loved it. But I really want to see how much better it would have been/looked with a bit more..."...
A surprise announcement at E3 this year, the PlayStation 3 exclusive ModNation Racers looks to redefine the kart racing genre with its ridiculous level of customization and community features.
With a beta being launched soon, Sony and developer United Front Games invited us out to its Vancouver-based studio to get an early look at what players can expect. As it turns out, a whole hell of a lot. Kart racing fans, you are not prepared.
"looks great BUT where is the split screen support? the reason why I play mario kart is cuz it supports 4 players on one console. I hope modnation includes at least 2 player offline play"...
I think what most pleases me about the release of the "family friendly" LEGO Rock Band, it's that it opens up the platform to all kinds of pop nonsense we might not have ordinarily seen. By "nonsense," I mean stuff I have been secretly flooding Harmonix with requests for.
Take Kelly Clarkson for instance -- girl can sing. Next week, "Miss Independent" comes to Rock Band, along with songs from "Sure, I'll put an exclamation point in my name" P!nk and Go-Go's.
Single tracks ($1.99/160 MS Points/200 Wii Points per track)
Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" +
Kelly Clarkson - "Miss Independent" +
P!nk - "Who Knew" +
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live Anthology Pack 01 ($9.99/800 MS Points for the pack; $1.99/160 MS Points/200 Wii Points per track)
"A Think About You (live)" +
"American Girl (live)"
"Even the Losers (live)"
"Here Comes My Girl (live") +
"Mary Jane's Last Dance (live)"
"Refugee (live)" +
(The "+" indicates the tracks is available available on both the Rock Band and the LEGO Rock Band music stores)
Kelly Clarkson plus six live Tom Petty tracks? Time to stock up on MS Points. (Yes, you can make fun of me in the comments.)
If you're waiting for our Tony Hawk: Ride review, sit tight -- we don't even have the game in our hands yet, despite the fact that it's on store shelves.
But you know that famous skateboarding bulldog? Well, not only does he have it, but he's mastered it. In this YouTube clip, the dog steps on the skateboarding peripheral and basically rocks it. While I don't have the game, I have played it on more than one occasion, and I must admit that this dog is far better than I am.
Did anyone out there drop the $120 on Tony Hawk: Ride this week? If so, tell us what you think.
I'm sure we all knew Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would sell well, but not like this. Activision has revealed that the title has grossed an estimated $550 million worldwide in just the first five days of its release.
This makes it, Activision says, the biggest launch in entertainment history. It beat out the largest reported five-day worldwide box office record holder, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394 million). And in the realm of videogames, it crushed the five-day worldwide sales records set by Grand Theft Auto IV ($310).
Activision also blames Modern Warfare 2 for helping to set Xbox LIVE records, with more than 5.2 million multiplayer hours logged on in the first day of its release. Additionally, 2.2 million users were noted as playing the title on that same day, unlocking 11 million achievements. (Activision doesn't mention the number of banned Xbox 360 consoles due to people trying to play Modern Warfare 2 early, but I'm pretty sure that's a record, too.)
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is pleased, calling it a "pop culture phenomenon." But the company isn't resting on its laurels. In an odd way to end a press release, the publisher seemingly shouts out to its investors saying it "remains cautious about the U.S. global economy as well as other variables that can affect industry fundamentals and our own performance, including customer spending with remains a significant concern."
What are Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, former Visceral/Electronic Arts devs who worked on Dead Space, doing for Activision? Well, they're starting their own game studio, of course.
We already knew that, but now we have a name -- Sledgehammer Games. That's... a name, for sure. The team is already hard at work on a game, but obviously not saying much other than that "the titles needs the support of a strong publisher to make the game a success." A strong publisher like Activision, of course.
I've no idea what their new game could be, if I'll be honest. But if the main character doesn't wield a sledgehammer and/or get a sledgehammer swung at him/her... well, that's a missed opportunity, I'd say.
"No offense, but does anyone else smell money hats? Here we have two guys responsible for the *best new ip* of 2008 & now they make a new studio where they will be making *sequels* to current Acti..."...
You know what sounds like a bad idea? God of War III with an online cooperative mode. That is, of course, unless Kratos had a wise-cracking minotaur sidekick. That would be awesome.
But despite rumors which pointed to the upcoming PlayStation 3 title featuring a co-op mode, that doesn't look like it's happening. Speaking with IGN, a Sony spokesperson shot down the rumors, calling the news "unfounded."
"God of War III will not have an online co-op mode," the rep said.
Wait, the rep only said "online co-op"! What about splitscreen!? Okay, let's give it a rest -- it's not happening, right? This matches what the game's design director, Todd Papy, told me back in February.
"This is a solo campaign," he said. "Kratos has never really had a buddy for the trip so ... but we are looking at downloadable content, and also Home support."
Yes! A God of War space with Kratos Checkers and Harpy Chess, please.
It's entirely possible you've already received this update -- Assassin's Creed 2 and/or Left 4 Dead 2 midnight launches and all -- but the Xbox LIVE Update is now... well, live.
The update brings a slew of new features including Facebook, the new Zune video marketplace, Twitter, and Last.fm. All you need to do in order to receive the update is turn on your Xbox 360 and all of this new stuff will be there. Pretty easy, right?
I've been using the new features for awhile, and I must admit I haven't touched the Twitter or Facebook apps since testing them out for our video preview. Last.fm, on the other hand, has been awesome with one exception -- during long listening periods, the program will detect "inactivity" and ask you if you're still listening. That's fine -- why would they waste bandwidth on someone who's not listening? The problem -- it does it in the middle of a song. Really, guys?
After you update, let us know how you like the new features, and which ones (if any) you'll be using the most.
"Last.FM is sweet as hell. I REALLY wish I could listen to it while playing Peggle.
Oh well. Guess I have to get up, take two steps to get to my computer, and open up Last.FM there..."...
In case you own The Beatles: Rock Band and for some reason don't know what Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band sounds like, Harmonix, MTV Games, and Apple Corp. would like to remind you.
That's what this little trailer is for, as the remaining tracks from the historic album will be available for Xbox 360 and Wii tomorrow, for 1080 MS Points, or 160 MS Points/200 Wii Points per song. PlayStation 3 owners can grab the tracks when PlayStation Network updates on Thursday, for $13.49, or $1.99 per song.
The music sounds the way I remember it, and it looks pretty, too. Seems like a no-brainer purchase for fans of The Beatles and Rock Band, I'd say.
Capcom's Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles hits shelves tomorrow, and while Jonathan Holmes will have our full review later in the week, I wanted to give you a quick glimpse of what you'll encounter in the first ten minutes.
Being the follow-up to the on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, players should know what to expect in terms of gameplay, as it doesn't seem like too much has changed. Of course, The Darkside Chronicles features 20 or so new missions, exploring events of the series, including Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
This first mission, as seen above, has has Leon Kennedy on his first mission with Jack Krauser ("Operation Javier"), as they investigate a small South American village. A few bio-organic weapons and zombies later... well, I don't want to spoil to much for you.
You can also see that the game looks great on the Wii, particularly the lighting in the "Operation Javier" mission. You can also see that I'm not the best shot; maybe I should have chosen the game's "Easy" mode which provides some auto-target assistance. But what fun is that, really?
