[Editor's note: KamikazeTutor takes a look at Guybrush Threepwood from The Secret of Monkey Island for his Monthly Musing piece. -- CTZ]

I wasn't that much of a PC gamer when The Secret of Monkey Island was released, but I felt the vibe like any other when I finally laid my hands on that amazing treasure of the adventure games genre. Its hero would stay in my memory forever, from what it meant to me to what an incredibly fleshed out and likable character he was.

He was called Guybrush Threepwood, a name that only a caring mother would love, and his goal in life was to be a pirate.

[Editor's note: KamikazeTutor takes a look at a interesting look at game saving. I've done the same thing plenty of times myself. Sometimes, I just want to experience a particular section and nothing more from a game. Read on for Tutor's Guilty Pleasure as part of the Monthly Musings. -- CTZ]

Took me a while to find a name for this article. It's hard to designate something that plenty of us do, but rarely discuss between ourselves; it's like some kind of dirty secret that everyone thinks it's theirs and theirs alone.

I'm not talking about the basic need to save the game, but the urge to save it in a specific spot, just before a moment you feel like you'll want to replay it times and times, endlessly.

Hell, you'll probably be surprised as you start reading this text that you're not the only one doing it. Much like the reaction I had when I saw that episode of Ren & Stimpy where they have the statue of Lincoln pick its nose and smear the previous nasal contents beneath its chair –- I thought I was the only kid that did that!

Err… Onward with the article…

[KamikazeTutor is the first of many that will be promoted to the front page for Destructoid's Monthly Musings. In this "Good Idea, Bad Idea", Kamikaze looks at destructible environments.  -- CTZ]

This article touches the subject of how destructible environments can create an immersive or frustrating experience and how they can make a game look more realistic and the complete opposite.

Technology is capable of simulating amazing things. It’s been a while that computers are used to aid construction of seismic-resistant structures to aerodynamics, all through an immense blur of physics’ reproducing code. Now, even home computers can stand up to their massive cousins, allowing players to witness the power of physics firsthand as everything seems to fall properly and not bounce like balls. Wood breaks like wood, water flows like water, etc.

Most the time, physics are shown in games just like in one of my favorite science shows, Brainiac, where science is fun. If they keep exploding stuff every episode, that is.
