Ah, Left 4 Dead 2. The last major release for this year on my "why haven't you got this yet?" list.
I figured it would be worth pacing myself with Modern Warfare 2 as the go-to multiplayer game, at least until L4D2 became cheaper during Black Friday or Cyber Monday. On multiple occasions, I was this close to caving in, so I probably won't last much longer.
Seems like I'm in a rare spot, since about 80% of my friends list has made the switch from Infinity Ward to Valve this week, while I'm sitting here trying to get my last ten or so stars in Spec Ops. Those freakin' Juggernauts are cheap, man.
What is it about this obese Mario mask that makes it so damned terrifying?
My immediate thought was the tongue. Oh God, the tongue! But then my eyes were drawn to the bulbous red nose. Has Mario ever had a red nose before? He does now. Finally, I figured out what made the mask so creepy -- the raised eyebrows. Those are what tie the whole thing together, no question.
It's been said this getup was used in an official capacity at Nintendo events, but knowing this eBay auction will likely result in someone with a weird fondness for Mario using the mask to live out their fantasy is even more disturbing.
Please, I beg of you. Someone else buy the mask and throw it into your fireplace so that the demon occupying it may be released.
I'm starting to feel legitimately bad for giving Jurassic: The Hunted so much positive attention. Some people seem to be mistaking our affection for the game as completely sincere, thinking it's good-good when it's actually bad-good. You know, the kind of bad that makes you giggle? Yeah!
Anyway, if you're looking for some laughs or find yourself in dire need to get some dinosaurs into your life, take note: a demo for Jurassic: The Huntedwent up on Xbox LIVE today. You do have to be a Gold subscriber for the time being, as per usual.
No signs of a PlayStation 3 demo yet, but who knows. It could happen.
Drat your headline character limit, Elephant! I was one letter away from squeezing "next week" in there. You haven't seen the last of me; I know where you live.
On Tuesday, November 24, Games on Demand will see a few new additions to its decent catalog. That would of course be Saints Row 2 (except for Japan), LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (except for Japan and Mexico), and Battlefield: Bad Company (only for Japan).
Microsoft wasn't willing to give out specific prices quite yet, but it's safe to assume these will range in the $19.99 to $29.99 area. We can only hope it shall be the former rather than the latter.
It's really painful to see Games on Demand get all of these games I'd gladly pay for, but only if they were competitively priced. And they never are. I figure if I mention how Microsoft should do significant sales every once in a while, it may eventually happen. Seriously, it'd do wonders for 'em.
There's a problem with a lot of Xbox LIVE Arcade Games -- their online communities tend to die off before too long. Even the good ones can suffer from this, simply because there's so many competing XBLA games and people often will pick only a few multiplayer games, usually retail, and stick with them.
As noted on Team17's Facebook of all places, Worms 2: Armageddon received a major patch today. Hopefully there are people still actively playing it who will appreciate the work that's been done. Based on how specific some of the comments were to the list of fixes, I'd say their community is still kicking.
A ton of stuff is addressed in the update, many of it game-changing material. If you were ever going to do so, now would probably be ideal time to jump back into Worms 2 while everyone else is seeing what's up with patch.
Plus, the studio says DLC will be out next year. Someone must be playing this still, right?
Since many of you are like-minded folk, I can only assume you spend a good portion of your days pointing and clicking. I know I do. Why then, are we wasting our precious finger energy performing mundane tasks when we could be performing mundane tasks and totally getting sweet loot in the process?
Torchlight has been out since what, late October? Chances are if you had any intention of playing this year's Diablo, you would have done so already. Or you're waiting on a Steam sale.
I don't exactly know who this post is intended for, but here goes anyway: publisher Perfect World Entertainment is offering up a 2-hour trial of Torchlight. Having not tried this out for myself, I can't say what happens when the time runs out.
I'd like to think a self-destruct sequence on your computer is activated and the only way to prevent imminent destruction is to fork over the full $20. Tomorrow's headlines will surely read "Torchlight sales skyrocket 300%."
"I find it really enjoyable. It's like a Diablo 1.5, makes me pretty nostalgic. I haven't tried it yet, but there's also an extensive game editor that adds to Torchlight's value."...
This has to be the collector in me saying this, but whenever I or someone I know misplaces a game box (usually the latter), forcing me to forever hold onto a loose disc, it drives me up the walls.
Not to the point where I go out and specifically buy a green- or white-colored case, yet it's still annoying at any rate. The Netflix streaming Blu-ray disc falls somewhere into this scenario, and since they will remain a requirement for some time, Kotaku reader Nulion has come up with a solution.
Agreeing that paper is no way to contain the raw power of streaming movies, Nulion whipped up faux cover art intended for PlayStation 3 cases. Hell, it even comes complete with an ESRB rating. It's so legit, it doesn't even make any sense!
And if you find yourself with the itch to print out more custom videogame slip covers, The Cover Project comes highly recommended as a swanky resource for that sort of thing. Do it, assuming your printer can handle the job.
"I never lose my cases. If I keep a game in my system, the case is always 5 inches away. I make sure that I put everything back and keep everything in order. It's the only way to avert losing stuff."...
The Silent Hill movie tends to pop up on occasion when discussions about good videogame movies happen. The only problem with that is, when compared to everything else in the medium, even the best films based on games tend to be merely decent at best.
So no, I'm not some proponent of the Silent Hill flick. But if it makes you feel better, you can pretend that I am, I guess. As for the impending sequel, I'm not about to defend it. Heck no. After hearing the newest details from Shock Till You Drop, I am downright fearful of this project.
As you might recall, the screenwriter to be, Roger Avary, was sentence to a year in prison. Even so, it's sounding as if the film is still on. "We're just debating whether we can wait for him. He's writing the script for sure," says Silent Hill producer Don Carmody.
Director Christophe Gans likely won't be returning for the follow-up, but Carmody says "he's very happy to consult." According to Carmody, the story "is going to happen years later and the main character is much older and representative to the movie-going public which is in that age group."
"Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It's a connoisseurs' game. It has its own, rabid fan base. You have to appeal not only to the gamers, you have to appeal to a wider audience. So we have to get some story in there that helps explain a bit more," he concludes.
You wouldn't know it by looking at my credit card bills, but I have never been a member of GameFly. I have, however, racked up a bunch of meager transactions over the years whenever they try to pawn off their excess videogames with crazy sales.
Today is another one of those days where GameFly wants the garbage games out of its sight. Quite a few Xbox 360 and Wii titles were marked down to prices below $10, and hold on a second -- some of them aren't half bad. Heck, some are even good.
A few that caught my eye were Ninja Gaiden II, Mercenaries 2, Pure, and Far Cry 2. All of those are $9.99 shipped. And if drunken hobo fights bring you entertainment -- they're my specialty -- Condemned 2 is worth grabbing at $6.99.
Remember these are pre-played games. With that said, out of the numerous purchases I have made from GameFly, not once have I had any issues crop up. I'd also urge fellow bargain hunters to look at their other wares; you'd be surprised how low these prices tend to be.
Yes, I do realize this post reads like an infomercial. Is my check in the mail, guys?
Does Global Thermonuclear War ring any bells? It was one of the hidden multiplayer modes in Modern Warfare 2 that Josh told us about just the other day. Having opened up the developer console, which, by default is blocked, players were able to gain access to otherwise unplayable modes.
GTW was one such mode, tasking players with "capturing" a nuke for 90 seconds to detonate it. Now, thanks to the persistent bunch at ModernWarfail2, everyone has the opportunity to witness the mayhem.
Since it's only a single guy showing this off, the build up is really tedious. But I'd be willing to bet a full match would be tense, frustrating, and most importantly fun. Whether or not this mode will A) get the paid DLC treatment, B) one day get unlocked for free, or C) never be officially released remains to be seen.
As a quick aside, the "getting a virus by way of IWNet" was a false alarm. No need to panic, for once.
"I think that mode would end up being a battle over points alone as hardly ever would anyone be able to stay with the nuke that long. It may just be a remnant of a previous build or it may be futu..."...
In the past, a good percentage of Xbox LIVE's so-called deals have been pretty crummy. But for the rest of this month, the Deal of the Week promos are surprisingly good. Don't believe it? Keep on reading, good sir.
Easily the weakest of the bunch is Fable II's "See the Future" add-on, which of course is the first deal. Thanks for trying to make me look bad for trying to make you look good, guys! Brad wasn't fond of the DLC, but if you think you might be, it's going down to 400 MS Points on November 23.
Next up is Peggle for 400 Points and Death Tank for 800 Points -- both sales are happening during the week of the 23rd as well. And finally, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 closes this month off on November 30 for the low, low price of 240 Points. Now that's more like it.
Since it seemed like no one played Death Tank around the time of release, allow me to recommend that game. It's like a real-time Scorched Earth, and fans of Worms will want to check it out for sure.
Season 2 of 1 vs. 100 begins tonight, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Why? Besides it being a genuinely fun trivia game, we have just been given word that "the Carlton" and "the Elaine" will be unlockable dances for your Avatar. Incredible.
A few other tidbits were divulged as well. On top of Achievements, in-game badges will be awarded for various triumphs, such as getting your accuracy to be 90% or above. As if that wasn't enough, players will also have levels -- ranging from 1 through 50 -- to display their trivia know-how.
The new season starts tonight at 8:00 EST. Who's in?

For me, BioShock 2 has been one of those rare sequels where I thought it was simply unnecessary, but as time has gone by, I've become increasingly interested in playing it. Dare I say it -- I'm actually anticipating its early February release.
Over on The Cult of Rapture, we are given our first glimpse of the BioShock 2 Special Edition. Before we get any further, let me start by saying that this game getting a Special Edition is news in and of itself. Alright, let's continue, shall we?
The SE comes in a 13"x13" premium packaging that looks rather neat. Neat enough to warrant a $99.99 price tag for console versions of the game ($89.99 for PC)? Hmm, what else is in this thing?
Three posters depicting vintage ads you'd find in Rapture, a vinyl 180g LP featuring the first BioShock's orchestral score, a CD of BioShock 2's orchestral score, a 164 page 8"x11" hardbound art book, and a copy of the sequel. Wowza.
The art book alone sounds mighty tempting, doesn't it? The BioShock 2 SE is getting a single production run, so you may want to start smashing open that piggy bank of yours for a pre-order right about now.
Capcom is going all out with expanding the core Resident Evil 5 experience, it seems. RE5: Gold Edition was announced today, and thankfully, it's the same exact thing as the oft-talked aboutAlternate Edition.
Coming March 9 to PlayStation 3 as a single Blu-ray disc and to Xbox 360 as a DVD plus token for the new downloadable content, Gold Edition entails two new episodes, more costumes (presumably the RE5 PC ones), and "Mercenaries Reunion" with 8 new playable characters, each with their own specific weapons.
The developer has listed this thing as costing $49.99, which might initially seem sort of high, but the more you think about it, it's really not so bad. I mean, imagine how much all of this additional stuff is going to cost the guy who bought the game at launch and has to download this stuff individually.
Mercenaries mode is an absolute co-op blast, so Mercs Reunion is a given for me. What about y'all?
