UK Charts: Modern Warfare 2 beats Mario, Assassins Creed photo

Assassin's Creed 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii both released this week, but neither were able to top the might of Modern Warfare 2. They take second and third place respectively, as Activision looks set to repeat the ludicrous success that last year's World at War enjoyed.

Left 4 Dead 2 debuted at a respectable, if not mind blowing, number seven on the chart. Otherwise, sports, fitness and racing games once again have majority control over the list, occupying eleven of the chart's twenty positions.

Hit the jump for the usual numbers.

UK Charts: Modern Warfare 2 ... 'nuff said photo

This week's UK Chart listing should shock absolutely nobpdy. The winner of the crown, and the winner of the crown for the next few months, is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Evil publisher Activision's latest chart-smashing success is sure to stay in the top for quite some time. Will it beat the mammoth run that World at War had last year? All signs point to yes.

In any case, this week's UK Chart is notable for its lack of surprise all round. In addition to the predictable Modern Warfare 2, we have nothing but the usual suspects: Wii Sports Resort, FIFA 10, Wii Fit Plus, etcetera, etcetera, Peter Cetera.

UK Charts: Wii Fit Plus takes its 'rightful' place photo

A fitness game that doesn't sit atop the UK Chart? Say it ain't so! Wii Fit Plus has not been enjoying the number one spot for the past few weeks, since soccer games kept shunting it down the chart. Fortunately for everybody, however, the balance has been restored, and Nintendo's fitness placebo has now taken its predictable position at the top of the UK Chart.

Dragon Age: Origins was the biggest debut of the week, starting at number five on the chart, and expected to go down from there. Outside of that, it's yet more sports games than you can shake a stick at, because it's not enough that people watch soccer on TV seven days a week.

UK Charts: Soccer is better than soccer AND soccer photo

This is absolutely amazing. Two weeks ago, FIFA 10 was number one in the charts. One week ago, PES 2010 was number one in the charts. This week, Football Manager 2010 is number one in the charts. That's right, folks -- a soccer game that replaced a soccer game has been replaced ... by a soccer game! I tell you, only in Britain ...

As usual, sports make up a big portion of the chart, broken up by such titles as a debuting Grand Theft Auto Episodes: Liberty City and Borderlands, which has slipped to number nine in the charts but is still doing surprisingly well. PS3 exclusive EyePet is still hovering in the very low regions of the chart, which is a shame, as it looked to be both an amazing bit of tech and a potential holiday smash hit. Either way. I'm having a copy of it shipped from the UK for review, so keep reading Destructoid for the skinny on that.

It's also worth noting that DJ Hero debuted at number 20. While it still charted, I dare say that it's selling far less than Activision would have expected. It's unusual to see a big Activision game debut anywhere below number five. Perhaps the "jump the shark" nature of the product really did turn people off this time, and Activision has misjudged the market's tolerance for plastic toy instruments.

Ponder that, if you will, and hit the jump for the full UK chart.

UK Charts: Football is blatantly better than football photo

It could only happen in the UK -- a soccer game knocking another soccer game from the top spot. Yep, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 has ended FIFA 10's dominance after just a few weeks, shunting EA's footie game into third place while Forza Motorsport 3 swerves into second.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is down to sixth place from second, while Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games slowly climbs the charts, up from fifth place to fourth. WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010 debuts at number five while Gearbox Software's ambitious Borderlands debuts in seventh place, which is rather respectable for a game allegedly sent out to die

UK Charts: Uncharted 2 can't top FIFA photo

Sony really knows how to time a release. There is no doubt that, had Uncharted 2: Among Thieves released at any other time, it would have soared to the top of the UK Chart. Unfortunately, however, Sony's latest PS3 exclusive decided to come out after FIFA 10, and as such, has been held in second place thanks to Britain's creepy obsession with soccer ... and yes I meant to call it soccer.

Aside from that, it's more or less business as usual. As always, you can hit the jump and see what the Brits have been buying this week, which is more or less the same thing they buy every week. It amazes me that in such a small island, everybody doesn't own two copies of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games by now.

UK Charts: FIFA 10 is still on top, obviously photo

Yeah ... in a country that treats soccer like an organized religion, don't expect to see FIFA 10 leave the top spot anytime soon. Yes, once again it's time for the UK Charts, and once again it's a naked portrayal of what the British public appreciates. Amazingly, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is in the second slot. I have no idea what that game has done to look appealing to anybody.

Otherwise, your usual dose of racing games, sports game and Professor Layton are all hanging out in the chart this week. Please feel free to hit the jump and read the whole thing, although let's be honest, you're just here for the weekly picture of an idiotic Brit.

FIFA 10 has launched in the UK and, unsurprisingly, it's shot straight to the top of the chart. Not only that, it's become the second most successful videogame of all time in the country, beaten only by the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV last year.

Halo 3: ODST has been demoted to number three, leaving Professor Layton in its second slot. Otherwise, there's nothing major to report. All the usual suspects are in attendence, since the British public apparently isn't sick of Wii Sports or Guitar Hero yet. Hit the jump for the list.

UK Charts: Halo 3: ODST and Professor Layton clean house photo

We have two brand new games seizing the top two slots of the UK chart this week, and while Halo 3: ODST's top position is not shocking in the least, you may very well be surprised to learn that Professor Layton and Pandora's Box is standing proud at number two!

The popular DS puzzle series has been enjoying some simmering success in the UK, with the original game hovering at the lower end of the chart for quite some time. Despite this, I'm very surprised to see Pandora's Box enjoy such an amazingly successful debut. Surprised, but certainly not undelighted.

UK Charts: Need for Speed guns down Kurt Cobain photo

It's the moment you've all been waiting for! Yes, this week's UK Charts are here once again to remind us all that the British public can't stop buying Mario Kart Wii. This week, Guitar Hero 5 has been knocked off the top slot after just a week by EA's Need for Speed: Shift. Looks like EA called shotgun on that chart position.

Wet debuts at number six, which is surprising, but other than it's the usual run of games you've come to expect. Plenty of sports games and big franchises that just refuse to leave the charts no matter how old they are. You'd think such a small country would get sick of the same old titles.

Courtney Love might hate Guitar Hero 5, but she has the entirety of the British public against her, as evil publisher Activision's puppetry of dead celebrities has hit the number one slot, beating The Beatles: Rock Band despite the latter's hype and press coverage.

In fact, The Beatles has only hit number four in the charts, demonstrating you need more than just dead singers in order to make it to the top. The new Rock Band game has been beaten out by both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dirt 2

That's a shame, really. I had hoped The Beatles: Rock Band would topple the Guitar Hero franchise from atop the mountain. I guess Activision's Satanic Gods have not abandoned the company yet. Oh well, hit the jump for the latest nonsense.

UK Charts: Batman is better than Wii Sports Resort photo

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a great game. What's more, it's a great game at the top of the UK Chart, a position usually reserved for bad games that the idiotic general public lap up. This almost qualifies as a paradox, and I'm fairly certain that the British consumers need to be warned that they're buying a good game instead of the usual garbage. They might be disappointed when they get home and realize it isn't terrible.

A few notable things happen in the chart this week. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has outsold World at War for once, probably due to how close we are to Modern Warfare 2's release date. Dissidia: Final Fantasy debuts in tenth place, while IL2 Sturmovik arrives in sixth.

Yes, sometimes a good game does go to number one in Britain.

Batman has done the impossible, knocking Wii Sports Resort from the top spot. This is the only surprise we're getting this week, however, because the usual garbage makes up the rest of the chart. Still, well done to Eidos, the studio was bound to have a success on its hands one of these days.

Prototype is back in the top ten, and Call of Duty: World at War has jumped considerably up to fifth place, likely due to UK gamers getting themselves lubed up for Modern Warfare 2. Not a lot of decent games have been released lately, so there's not a lot to report this week. UK Charts: Harry Potter makes his Satanic way to the top photo

It should come as no surprise that Harry Potter has become the UK's top selling game this past week. UK Charts: The Sims 3 takes control photo

Despite its heavily pirated status, it would appear that The Sims 3 has dominated the UK charts this week. Its huge mainstream success made it a shoe-in for the top slot, really.

Meanwhile, Sony exclusive inFAMOUS slips down from five to six, having had perhaps not the best of runs. It certainly didn't mirror the success of Killzone 2

In another interesting twist, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has now climbed above World at War in the charts. With UFC 2009: Undisputed taking the top slot, it's all change with the UK Charts this week. We have quite a few new things to talk about, and I am so, so happy.

Wii Fit is not even at number two. It's been batted right down to fourth place, subjugated not just by UFC, but by Pokémon Platinum at number two, and EA Sports Active at number three. UK Charts: World at War spends half a year in the top ten? photo

Call of Duty: World at War has today reached quite a landmark, managing to stay in the UK top ten charts for six months. The general public will have nobody to blame but themselves.

This is a good story to focus on because the rest of the UK Chart this week is just as depressing as always, remaining largely unchanged from last week. UK Charts: Wii Fit is back on top! photo

Unbelievable! In a ... believable sort of way.

Wii Fit has returned to the top of the UK charts, as Nintendo's focus on women and the terminally stupid continues to yield glorious reward. Wii Fit finally knocks Resident Evil 5 from its racist pedestal. I'm guessing there was an episode of Jeremy Kyle called "Too fat to have sex" or something and it's created in spike in sales from housewives who are terrified of losing their husbands, rightfully, to a more attractive and younger woman.

Aside from this little nugget of information, which is sure to make Jonathan Holmes wet his knickers, things remain the same. UK Charts: Resident Evil 5 racists its way to the top photo

British people love their racism, so it's not surprising that the totally racist Resident Evil 5 has topped the UK charts this week, sending Empire: Total War from the previous top spot right down to number eight. Methinks the BNP has been buying a few copies for the office.

In other news, Wii Fit has now made its way to number two in the charts, proving that people are always willing to be suckered in by weight-loss snake oil. Professor Layton is still riding high at number four, which used to confuse me until I saw a TV commercial with the ugly slag from Friends promoting it like just another casual Brain Training game. No wonder the mediocre masses like it.

Killzone 2 and Halo Wars are still toughing it out in the top ten, FIFA 09 is of course there, as is Mario & Sonic. The big shocker this week is that there is NO sign of Guitar Hero. OMG ACTIVISION IS GOING BUST!

Hit the jump for the full charts, anyway.

UK Charts: Empire totally kills Killzone 2 photo

Empire: Total War claims the top spot this week, knocking Killzone down a peg after last week's short-lived triumph. The strategy game from Sega seems to be just too tempting for Britain's chavs and skinheads, leaving the PS3 FPS to enjoy a spot at number two.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X debuts at number four, but that's the only new entry in a sea of familiar faces. Wii Fit, Professor Layton and FIFA 09 all make their regular appearances, while Halo Wars slips from two to five. Call of Duty: World at War is still hanging on in the top ten at number nine. Nothing really interesting happening.

Hit the jump for the full UK charts. Because about three of you care.

UK Charts: Killzone 2 is blatantly better than Halo Wars photo

Yesterday, we wrote an article confirming without a doubt that Killzone 2 is better than Halo 3. It seems our words touched the hearts of the great British public, as the PS3 exclusive has managed to knock Halo Wars into second place.

For once, the UK charts actually look interesting, which makes a change from the usual FIFA/World at War/Wii Fit gangbang that we have to endure each week. Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is stll there, while Professor Layton has crawled up the chart to number 5. Also, Konami has finally bothered to release Silent Hill: Homecoming in Europe, leading to a number 11 debut.

Congratulations to Sony though. After having LittleBigPlanet and Resistence pushed down the charts by rival titles, it's good to see that the PS3 has finally seized the top slot, and with a damn good game to boot. Our full review of Killzone 2 is coming later tonight, so make sure to check that out, and hit the jump for the full charts.

UK Charts: Street Fighter IV defeats Wii Fit to have a chance! photo

Wii Fit has enjoyed a solid tenure atop the UK Charts, but here comes a new challenger! Capcom's Street Fighter IV has debuted at number one, effortlessly pushing the EVIL CASUAL GAMES into second place. This represents an almost cataclysmic event -- my ability to say somthing different about the UK charts!

In fact, there are a couple of new additions to the figures this week. We have Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II debuting at number three, while Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection makes a nostalgic premier appearance at number seven. Further down, House of the Dead: Overkill comes in at number fifteen.

The full chart, as always, is available after the jump. STUHREET FIYATAAAAH!

UK Charts: Wii Fit fears nothing photo

The UK Charts once again shine a depressing light on the buying habits of the average British game consumer. Wii Fit dominates the charts and refuses to yield to the rather wonderful F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin, which debuts in second place.

Most of the top ten is, as usual, a bit rubbish. Mystery Case Files: Millionheir, Wii Play and My Fitness Coach make up the typical nonsense, although the appearance of Professor Layton is a bit encouraging. Left 4 Dead is also enjoying some sort of UK boost, taking as it does the Number 11 spot.

Going back to F.E.A.R 2, we'll be having our full review (complete with video) this evening, so stay tuned for that. Hit the jump for the full chart listing.

UK Charts: Wii Fit takes surprise lead photo

The stalemate between Call of Duty: World at War and FIFA 09 has been broken at last ... by Wii Fit. Call of Duty has been relegated to second place while FIFA has dropped down to fourth and it is the bastion of casual exploitation which stands tall once again.

Lord of the Rings: Conquest has debuted at number three, but outside of that, the great British public still finds more reason to buy Need For Speed, Brain Training and Carnival: Funfair Games. Hopefully things will shake up in February.

God, I really hope things shake up in February.

Hit the jump for the full chart.

UK Charts: Football continues to outshine World War II photo

It's Tuesday, and that means another look at the always unimaginative UK Charts. FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War have been jockeying for the number one slot for a while, but FIFA has held firm for a second week, proving that England's love of football eventually over-rules England's love of killing people from other countries -- though it's always a close-run thing.

Otherwise, the usual chav-pleasing stuff fills the chart. Are there seriously people in England left alive who don't own Need for Speed yet want it? For a country that's not very big, a ridiculous amount of people are still purchasing Wii Fit as well. Hopefully by the time February hits, we'll have something different to talk about. Until then, it's the usual story.

I apologize for my homeland's boring, boring sales chart.

UK Charts: FIFA reclaims top spot, not a lot else changes photo

Another Tuesday, another depressing look at the UK Charts. It seems that the top slot is now completely given over to a turf war between FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War. The two titles now seem to be trading places, and this week FIFA 09 is holding the hallowed ground.

Hopefully I made that sound more thrilling than it actually is, because this week's chart toppers are almost the same as last week's. At this point, I think these weekly charts are interesting to look at just to see how dull the mainstream game buyer's market actually is. If this is what the mainstream consumer sees as the best that gaming has to offer, then I think it's a sad, sorry reflection on the British public.

Hit the jump for this week's totally unsurprising UK chart.

UK Charts: Call of Duty reclaims the top spot photo

Last week, the UK number one chart position enjoyed a brief reprieve from bayonets and screaming banzai attacks as FIFA 09 smacked Call of Duty: World at War into second place. Well, Bobby Kotick can resume rubbing his swollen, gold-filled ballbags with erotic glee once again, as CoD is back on top.

Amazingly, the charts have barely changed at all since I've started making this a weekly feature. Just remember last week's chart and slightly rearrange a few titles. I don't think there is really anything fantastically new to tell you. Sonic Unleashed somehow got into the top ten, and Gears of War 2 crawled up a little to number 12, but there's nothing else of note. Nothing.

The sheer lack of anything resembling a LittleBigPlanet is pretty bad too. No Sony exclusives in the top twenty is rough going, especially with LBP hoping to be a big holiday hit. L'sigh.

Hit the jump for the full top twenty.

UK Charts: C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER for World at War photo

Call of Duty: World at War needed just one more week at the top of the chart to claim a record for most number of weeks held leading to a Christmas number one. Unfortunately for Activision, FIFA 09 has claimed the top spot, batting the cynical sequel down to number two. This marks the first time I'm happy to see something related to soccer win at anything.

And yes, I meant to type "soccer."

As always, the usual games are making up yet another unimaginative UK chart, with Mario Kart Wii, Need for Speed and Brain Training all making their weekly appearances. The only truly noteworthy thing this week is the fact that Professor Layton and the Curious Village is at number nine. Otherwise, UK gamers are still buying the same old crap.

Hit the jump for the full chart listing.

UK Charts: World at War heading for a chart record photo

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Activision's justification for churning out crap sequels by the bucketload every year! Call of Duty: World at War really wasn't that spectacular, but thanks to name value and the safety of World War II shooters, Activision is in line for a record breaking run as a reward for its yearly "exploitation" plan. Well done Britain.

This is the game's fifth week at the top of the UK chart, and just one more week will see it claim a record for the longest uninterrupted run heading towards Christmas. Activision's success continues as its cynicism and saturation grows. Meanwhile, the more Electronic Arts tries to be fresh and interesting, the more it fails. A lesson for us all, I think.

Otherwise, the UK charts are the same as always. More FIFA, more Need for Speed, more Brain Training. I'm surprised there are people left in England who don't already own these games, but apparently there are ludicrous amounts. Hit the jump for the whole chart.
