Machinima Condense StoriesRSS: This tag

Inside Gaming invited me back on to their show again where had a discussion on The Conduit’s poor sales and FPS games. We also made dick jokes.

The Conduit had a lot going for it and wasn’t that bad. I’ll just never get into any FPS game on the Wii, unless it’s on rails, like Dead Space: Extraction. I’d rather play Petz then have to fight with the aiming of the Wiimote.

Anyway, you can check out my little segment on Inside Gaming after the jump. There’s also a bonus video following the break of Inside Gaming’s latest feature called Flamebait. In the first episode, they target a couple of Web sites that have boundless faith in the PlayStation 3. Oh, fanboys!

The new chapter to the Dead Fantasy brawl is out and it’s a lot better than Dead Fantasy III. I’m a big fan of fight scenes with multiple characters (FOX X-Men cartoon FTW!) and the last episode really didn’t really pull me in like the episodes before it did.

The new chapter, though, brings back the crazy large fights thanks to the clones of Kasumi and some awesome summon creatures from Yuna. Also, it helps a lot that the music is from the opening credits of Final Fantasy VIII. Such an epic theme song.

Check out the new chapter after the break.

Machinima.com has a weekly series called Inside Gaming where they talk about all the hottest videogame news from the past week. Even though it's stuff you probably already know about, the presentation is rather funny and the Dead Pixel's voice is pretty hot. Plus, there's lots of pop-in graphics! Rad!

Machinima invited me on to this week's episode where I had some things to say about Activision on the PS3 and GameStop in denial. Also, Dead Pixel said my name wrong three times. THREE TIMES! Freaking jerk.

Hit the break to check out the newest episode of Inside Gaming. It's actually entertaining!

You got Zeno Clash in my Garry's Mod photo

The developers of Zeno Clash are the kind of people who love giving stuff away, and lucky for them, I think most of us are the type of people who enjoy getting stuff for free.

The first bit of downloadable content for the game whose genre cannot be defined using any known language is a set of assets from Zeno Clash for use in Garry's Mod. Yep, it won't be long now until we have some truly hilarious and probably bizarre images popping up, and maybe even some videos down the road.

The picture above pretty much sums the collection up, so go ahead and stare at that for a few seconds. You have my permission. Anyone here planning on making inappropriate Garry's Mod pics in the near future?

StageSet: make virtual films in PlayStation Home photo

You know how PlayStation home has guys chasing girl avatars that are really guys? Or how you always walk past a crowd making racist slurs toward other people online? It's great fun! Okay, so not really. But a new space called StageSet looks like it could be a lot of fun for creative types.

Machinima comes to Home with this new Home space that lets you create your own virtual film inside your PS3. Joystiq says that set lighting, operate cameras, and even mess with green screen effects in this expansion. The word is that StageSet will be included in this week's Home update, so you won't have to wait long to make your silly movies.

Alphazone4 has plenty of videos of this expansion in action for you to check out. This one on ghost grips looks pretty cool. After the jump you'll find a clip about cinematography in StageSet.

What do you think? Does this look ineresting to you?

Here are the nominees for the 2008 Machinima Filmfest photo

The nominees for the 5th Machinima Filmfest have been announced! If someone like me who rarely ever pays attention to machinima can recognize a few names on the list, you know the entries mean business.

With more than fifteen different categories, you better believe there's a lot of great content to be viewed. I've only seen Portal: A Day in the Life of a Turret, The Bag Boy, and Ignis Solus, so it appears I have a sizable amount of catching up to do.

If you'd like to attend the festival and see panels, presentations, and screenings of the the entries, it's taking place on November 1 at the Eyebeam center for Art and Technology in New York.

For those of you who keep up with the latest and greatest machinima, which films are you rooting for?

[Thanks, Seth!]

First off, if you haven't seen part one, then do so immediately. Once you're caught up, watch part two of this Team Ninja vs Square Enix super fight. The fight is pretty even between the two teams until a certain lady from Ninja Gaiden joins in on the fight. Things aren't looking good for the Square girls until a couple more Square Enix ladies join in and start destroying Team Ninja.

The fighting sequences and animation by montyoum has definitely gotten better since his last movie. montyoum is promising that we haven't seen anything yet as there are still five more episodes to follow. Since the fighters get split off in the end, it looks like the next episodes will all mostly be one-on-one battles. A HD version of part two should also be making its way onto GameTrailers soon.

I am always completely blown away by montyoum's work. What did you think of Dead Fantasy II?

[Thanks, Dara!]

The epic Full Life Consequences saga continues. This time, John Freeman gets revenge for the death of his brother by giant GMan. But before he can get revenge, he has to go get a new motorcycle and new weapons. Along the way, he fights more zombie goasts, saved some bird eggs, and shot a tree with a laser beam. Then he went to work and got an e-mail from his mom. After all that, he went and killed giant GMan. It was all too late though as Gordon Freeman became a head crab zombie.

I was kind of disappointed by the sequel. I laughed a hell of a lot more at the original. Although I just about died at this line: "The next boss was laughing at John Freeman so John Freeman said "YOU WILL NOT LAUGH AT ME!" and shot a rocket at him since that was his weakness." HOLY SHIT! Rockets are MY weakness too!

In the rough and tumble days of the 26th century the constant threat of combat can make raising a child an even more difficult task than normal.  Kids just grow up so fast, and even regularly bonding over the slaughter of your enemies and the subsequent capturing of flags can't stand up to the questionable influence of friends.

Leetworld, the creators of A Day in the Life of a Turret, bring us the story of a father who discovers he doesn't recognize his son anymore, a now foreign post-pubescent beast wantonly engaging in unsportsmanlike acts of depravity.  Oh sure, Dad tries to teach his not-so-youngin' appropriate ways to express his precocious zeal; but in the end, kids will be kids and war will be war.

In most cases, fan fiction is always horrible. Sometimes though, they are so horrible, they end up being hilarious. Take for instance this fan fiction for Half-Life written by a 6-year-old. Yes, that's right, a 6-year-old wrote this up. Something this horrible though would be tough to read without having to facepalm over a dozen times. Thanks to YouTuber Djy1991, he took this fan fiction and created a hilarious video to go with it. Thank God for Garry's Mod!

Watch on as John Freeman, brother of Gordon Freeman, as he tries to help Gordon fight for survival against the bad guys. Full transcript of the fan fiction is after the jump.

[Update: So as it turns out, this is old. But the video is brand new so shut up and enjoy it.]

Tweedman would dig this: A Mega Man 2 machinist has responded to last year's Vancouver airport security shitstorm. You may vaguely recall the incident: A Polish immigrant and airport authorities had a failure to communicate which resulted in good old fashioned problem solving ... they all ganged up and killed him. Its good to see that Canada is more like New Jersey every day! Film director Mike Greenway had this to say about his coup-de-grace:

Megaman helps a lost and confused Polish immigrant at Vancouver International Airport; RCMP-style. The video was really more of a statement on police Taser use than anything. The video that I made is a tongue-in-cheek parody about the incompetence of everyone involved, not police brutality.

Way to back-peddle there, Greenway. Your hilarious video isn't called Police Tasers R Bad: It's called Airport Police, Vancouver and he effectively makes fun of how piss-poor they handled the violent immigrant who (to be fair) didn't calmly scour the area for energy tanks to ensure his survival. My only regret is that the circular bacon pigs didn't toss a burning police dog at his face so Mike could use Woodman's guardian puppies. Those were uber clever, Capcom!

People are reacting horribly to this video like Jesus on a dog anus. A sergeant from RCMP stated that "This video was clearly in poor taste" and he's absolutely right ... but tazing a guy to death? Now that's classy! The actual video footage is below the fold if you'd like to treat yourself to another reality video demonstration why all humans can be stupid, dangerous animals. Or watch Mega Man taze him. Bro.

Want to get involved? You know what to do: March directly into Starbucks and pick up a flaky girl with your powerful feelings on the matter and ultimately raise children that move to Canada and become airport security people that don't taze others to their death (or) pause your demanding career and meticulous diet to write to various politicians around the world, preferably to the Polish Ambassador's office who had the only sober reaction in the pack "The public was disturbed by the event. This is how the subculture reacted to it."

Lady, if you only knew what Garry's Mod can do.

This is exactly what the Internet was created for ... well, this and military purposes, but this is way cooler than that.

Madcow Productions decided to add to the ever growing collection of World of Warcraft machinima videos on the 'net, with their rendition of "The Bad Touch" by The Bloodhound Gang. Remember that song? The one with the clever lyrics that got stuck in your head for a week after you heard it? Yeah, those lyrics got even better with a little videogame wit thrown in.

"Hard like Heroic" is the videogame version of "The Bad Touch" and yes, there is a reference to the Wii. It's a song about pixelated nudity, so there has to be a reference to Wiis and joysticks.

Garry's Mod is a thing of beauty. Many Machinimas and wacky videos from the Half-Life universe have all been possible thanks to Garry (and the awesome Concerned comic too). The latest version of Garry's Mod is going through some beta testing right now and works with Team Fortress 2 and Portal; as you can see in these hilarious pictures.

There's a bunch more picture over at this NeoGaf thread of the latest Garry's Mod in action. I can see that the animation style of Team Fortress 2 is going to really get people to produce some fun stuff.

Give Beowulf a Machinima enema photo

Our friends over at Machinima are holding a contest! The contest is split up into two parts and is related to the upcoming movie Beowulf. For the first contest, you need to mash-up the trailer for Beowulf using the clips provided from the original trailer and from the game Lair. First place winner of the contest will win a $500 Best Buy gift card and second place will win a $250 Best Buy gift card. This contest ends November 28th

The other contest is a lot more involved than the mash-up contest and has a higher prize value. You can download the audio, titles and blanked out video from the official trailer and recreate it using any game you want Machinima style. First place will win $1,000 Best Buy gift card and the winning video will be on the homepage of MySpace. Second place will win $500 Best Buy gift card. The deadline for this contest is November 8th.

Now how awesome would it be if someone could remake the Beowulf trailer using Katamari Damacy?

[Editor's note: The picture is Angelina Jolie working on scenes for the moview Beowulf. She had at least 100 motion tracking balls on her face and body. Even with all that crap on her face, I still wouldn't mind putting a couple of more balls on her ....]

A few months ago, a video was released called Haloid that brought together Halo and Metroid into an all out battle to the death. Today, montyoum is back with his latest epic masterpiece called Dead Fantasy 1.

Dead Fantasy 1 mashes up the Final Fantasy universe with the Dead or Alive universe. The movie starts off with Yuna running away from Kasumi and Ayane until they finally catch up to Yuna and start battling it out. Rikku comes in soon after and everything is looking good for the Final Fantasy girls until Hitomi jumps into the fight to back up Kasumi and Ayane. Yuna and Rikku also get another girl to fight along side of them, but it's not who you expect it to be ...

You'll notice a few things about this video compared to Haloid. First, the characters look a hell of a lot better animation and character design wise. Second, yes, more Matrix music is used (Is that so bad though?). Third, this is only part 1 and no telling when part two will come out. Montyoum is saying that part 2 will be far greater than this so we'll just have to sit and wait for the next part. Until then, enjoy this awesome video.

Dead Rising's Mama Frank is a hard working, fully domesticated cross dressing ... person that will stop at nothing to prepare a fine meal his/her boys. The daily grind really drains the life out of Frank, but he/she sticks with it out of love.

The commute from work to the grocery store is a real b***h, the mall is over-crowded, and the crime in Frank's town has become out of control, but that doesn't stop him/her. The lines at the stores are terrible and the people there are absolutely unbearable, but this loving Mama is dedicated to gathering and preparing only the finest foods for her sons. Frank obviously loves her sons, but it is a real shame that the sons-of-b***hes have become so picky and unappreciative.

Lately it seems that he/she has had enough. Even the best mother can only take so much.

This Japanese made machinima called Dead like Meshi uses only game play scenes from Dead Rising, but succeeds with fantastic results. What's more impressive is that no additional audio needed to be added as the in-game voicings and effects fit perfectly. The end result is this creative and hilarious story.

This is a two part video, with the first above and the second part here. Enjoy

The final episode of Red vs. Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles photo

The final episode of the Blood Gulch Chronicles was released late last night and after watching all three different endings, I think there is no way this series is over. For one thing, there are way too many loose ends. The biggest one being why the two sides are even fighting in the first place. Which has been the biggest question of the series since it started.

In any case, head on over to Rooster Teeth and check out all three versions. If this truely is the way they want to end the saga, than I just have to say it has been a great ride. It's was a great series and I'll be looking forward to whatever they bring out next ... except for 1-800-Magic. That series has so far been really bad.

Something is wrong when a trailer for a machinima film is more exciting than that of a "real" movie. Or maybe, something is so very right.

This trailer for a Half Life 2 machinima film, Shadows of the Dead, hits the spot on many levels. Zombies, solid editing, intense music ... an extremely hokey voice over. Okay, I'll let that slide.

The trailer is a finalist in Liongate's The Condemned (the movie starring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, not game) machinima contest, and was produced by the folks over at Mighty Crane Films.

You might recognize Mighty Crane's name or work -- we posted another one of their short films, "The Ballad of Black Mesa," a few months ago.

Haloid is quite possibly the most interesting Halo-related fan movie in existence. It manages to combine multiple genres and provide non-stop action as well as answer the question, “who would win in an ultimate showdown, Master Chief or Samus?”

While the answer to that very question might not be what most of us had in mind, it's definitely worth checking out. Whether or not you enjoy the Halo or Metroid games, you can still get some enjoyment out of Haloid -- the creator, Monty Oum, made sure of that.

I don't want to completely spoil the ending, because if I did, you would either call me a total liar or suddenly get the urge to plant a bomb in my mailbox for ruining the final sequence. Both outcomes would bode badly for me, so just sit back, relax, and watch this entertaining tale unfold.

[Thanks, Charlie and Irving!]

Red vs Blue to call it quits after 100 ... NOOOOO!!! photo

As Darth Vader once said: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

OK, well maybe I'm being a little too emotional, but it seems that after so many years of pure comedy gold the boys over at Rooster Teeth are pulling the plug on THE BEST machinima out there: Red vs Blue. If you've never seen this series, then I highly encourage you to do so right this very second. Here's the bad news straight from their forum:

April 1st is a special day for us here at RoosterTeeth, as it marks the anniversary of the first Red vs Blue episode we ever posted, way back in 2003. We always want to pause on occasions such as this to thank all of you for supporting RvB over the years. We try to say it as often as we can; the people of this community do so much for us by keeping us inspired and motivated to create every day. And the sponsors especially deserve our gratitude by supporting us in (if I may borrow a phrase) "a rent and food" kind of way. It's hard to believe that today marks four years of producing the series and with this week's release, we are 6 episodes from Episode 100. It seems like just yesterday that we started working on what we thought was going to be a mini-series that was intended to run six episodes in total.

Producing RvB and getting to know the people who watch it have been two of the greatest joys of my life. That's why we wanted to let you all know first that Episode 100 is going to be the last installment of The Blood Gulch Chronicles. One hundred is a great number, and it seems like the perfect place to call it a show. I am sure you have some questions about our plans for the series and beyond. We will be talking about all of that in the weeks and months to come, but I want to use this time to thank all of you for nearly half a decade of support. For now, it's back to work. From the recent developments in the storyline, you may have noticed some loose ends coming together and we have a lot to wrap up in the last seven videos. We hope you will love them as much as the first seven or the middle seven or whatever it was that initially drew you to the world of Red vs Blue.

Sad pandas for everyone.

Win some crap in the God of War II machinima contest photo

GameStop/EB Games have teamed up with Machinima.com to bring the world a God of War II user video contest. First prize includes $750 worth of GameStop/EB Games gift cards; a God of War II strategy guide; a God of War figurine; t-shirts; and some other junk you can sell on eBay.

Personally, there are a few things keeping me from entering this contest. For one, I've never been motivated to create a piece of machinima in my life. I don't have the time, nor do I have the desire to make Kratos and a cyclops dance around to a Fall Out Boy song. Secondly, why would I stop actually playing God of War II? That's just about the silliest thing I've ever heard.

To any of our community who plan on entering, be sure to work some Destructoid references in there for us.

Normally I would say, "Whoever did this has way too much time on their hands." I would then make a rude comment about how they live in their parent's basement and possibly, if I'm feeling saucy, make a Cheetos reference. But in this case, I'm going to make an exception, because this is awesome.

This song is a club banger, no doubt. The folks behind the video call themselves Mighty Crane Films and make movies using the Source/Half-Life 2 engine. And as they say, "That's about it." Well, I'm cool with that if they keep coming up with stuff like this.

Hit the jump for another movie of theirs that also (not surprisingly) uses the Source engine, "Anti Citizens."

Destructoid loves having gaming contests, but we can't be responsible for all of the kickass gaming giveaways on the Internet. This contest is sponsored by NBC Universal and ties into the new movie Smokin' Aces. Together with Machinima.com, they are giving away over a $1,000 to whoever can submit the best gaming kill and raid machinima montages at their Web site.

The contest starts today and runs until Jan. 19, so crack your knuckles and tie your curb stomping shoes -- you've got just under three weeks to make the best death demo reel possible. Not just any killspree or headshot will do -- mix the montage to music like in the video above and make your murders memorable.

The grand prize is $1,000, second is $500, and third is $250, so it might be worth throwing a luxurious LAN party just to capture enough killing for this contest. If you win, I'm sure the money would cover all the pizza and beer you spent on the party. Breaking necks to break even sounds like a deal to me.

Dickens meets machinima! This is SO nerdy. photo

In case you've been stuck inside playing games for the last few weeks and haven't had any human contact, you should probably know that it's getting to be Christmas time again. Depending on your geographical location, the roads are icing up, snow is falling and bears are curled up in ice caves awaiting the spring thaw.

One of the long-time Christmas traditions in most Anglo-centric countries is the reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (though, more recently it has been replaced with a 24-hour marathon of the movie version of Dickens' classic, starring George C. Scott, on TNT), and in the spirit of Christmas, Destructoid brings you an even more modernized version of this classic tale.

Machinima is defined by me as "movies made out of games that generally suck, but are beloved by Internet nerds across the globe", and this machinima of A Christmas Carol is no exception. Some of the voice acting is hilarious (intentionally!) and it falls into the usual pitfalls of such things (inaccurate movement), but it gets the spirit of the story right via a new medium, and if you're trying to impress a girl who wears thick-rimmed glasses, she'll think this is the bee's knees.

If you're like me, you've made a habit of insulting high ranking members of The Church of Scientology, and were banned from attending the wedding of Tom "Couch Stomper" Cruise to the lovely Katie "Mild Down's Syndrome" Holmes. Yet again, the Internet comes to the rescue! A resourceful (and possibly soon-to-be-dead-under-mysterious-circumstances) Sims user, has rendered the entire wedding within the game engine.

My wife watched this video a few moments ago and made me promise that if we ever divorce and remarry (for the kids' sake), that we'll not only get married in a fancy Italian castle, but that some crazy basement-dweller from the Internet would capture the entire thing in a Will Wright game.

No wonder I hate my wife.
