Wii Exercise Bike is going nowhere, works with Mario Kart photo

Mario Kart Wii is a ton of fun. But, if you're strange and were hoping you could make the game less fun, you could control it with an exercise bike.

Believe it or not, an exercise bike is coming to the Wii. Cyberbike, a title from publisher Big Ben, will come with a full-sized exercise bike controller. This bike will be easy to set up with adjustable saddle and handlebars, says Big Ben. For some reason, compatibility with Mario Kart Wii is a bulletpoint. What would probably be more fun than Mario Kart would be a remake of Excitebike. Wait, that wouldn't even be fun. Nevermind.

Cyberbike is set to launch in eary 2010.

I'm pretty much done with the whole health and videogames tie-in thing. Let's move on, please.

Hit the jump to see the loosely related NSFW header image I wanted to run.

Trish Stratus coming out with a Wii Yoga game photo

Trish Stratus as a brunette with glasses is stunning. She was always hot, but now she's just ... wow.

Oh, right, videogames. Fitness model and former WWE actor Trish Stratus has teamed up with Frima Studio to develop a new yoga game for the Wii called Stratusphere. The game will make use of the Wii balance board and other Wii accessories in order to make it so you can do awesome things to yourself. Really really really awesome things to yourself.

Trish will be coaching players along as Zen 3D backgrounds play in the … background. Expect to see several video segments of what I’m assuming will be Trish Stratus bending her body in lovely ways.

The game has no publisher yet, but Frima Studio is shopping around to see who will bite. They’re expecting Stratusphere to release sometime in the second quarter of 2010.

Last time I talked about Trish on Destructoid, I included a bunch of photos of her. This time around though, you’re going to get some videos. Check them out after the break!

In other news: Am I the only one that ALWAYS says flame after reading the word yoga?

Wii Fit book helps you shed pounds... theoretically photo

One of my biggest gripes with Wii Fit, which I expressed in Dtoids review of the game, was that it had absolutely no direction. There were simply a bunch of exercises thrown at you and then nothing else. You couldn't even make your own workout plan in the game. It was especially a let down because the "game" could have actually offered a decent sort of workout if it had been more structured. It looks like Wii Fit Plus will take care of this issue a bit, but before it does a new book might take care of it for the original game.

Amanda Dexter has published the Wii Fitness Bible. A book that offers up 120 pages of Wii Fit fitness tips. If you head over to the book's page you too can gain muscle and lose weight because according to her the Wii Fit is a fitness miracle that can change your life. Seriously, the entire site reads like that. It's like she created an infomercial for the web. There's even a part where she adds up the value of everything she's offering and then shows how much you're saving. One would think that after years and years of crappy advertising like this people would smarten up.

Anyway, I can sum up the entire book for you here. If you want to get into shape you should workout. Wii Fit can help. Use its exercises on a daily basis. You should probably eat right and go for a run too. That'll be $27. I accept check, Paypal or money order.

(Note: Amanda Dexter got in touch with us and asked if we could take down the image of the book's cover as she is changing around some artwork for various reasons. She seemed nice so we obliged. Generic Wii Fit image FTW.)

Jenny McCarthy has a fitness game now?! photo

Okay, when Daisy Fuentes' fitness game was announced, I sort of shrugged it off. I mean, apart from an excuse to talk about Daisy Fuentes, something I rarely get an opportunity to do any longer, there's just not a lot there that interests me. But now that Ubisoft has announced the release of a Wii exercise title featuring Jenny McCarthy this holiday season, I'm starting to notice a disturbing trend.

How many of these former MTV celebrities are going to get games made? Am I going to have to be on the lookout for a Dan Cortese game? Will there be a game where Kurt Loder teaches me how to be casually aloof while reporting news from a swivel chair? How long until Pauly Shore graces the cover of a game claiming to eliminate any sense of shame you may have? Slippery slopes, people. Slippery slopes.

To McCarthy's credit, she's done a pretty good job of transitioning into more mature fare than her raunchy sketch comedy show and co-hosting duties on Singled Out. She's a mommy now, one who has published several books on kids and autism, and a fitness fiend who recently became the spokesperson for Weight Watchers. But, to me, she'll always be the spunky, wild Miss October, 1993.

Hit the jump to see a video with Jenny explaining her game.

Rumor: A peripheral-based cycling game coming to Wii? photo

GoNintendo has acquired images of marketing slides which supposedly outline a couple of future Wii titles. One of these is a exercise game which simulates cycling using a special peripheral. In addition to the description of gameplay above, the rest of the page boasts that the game will feature over sixty game modes. The pedal features three levels of resistance to accomodate different exercise levels. There's no information on whether the game is being published by Nintendo or a third-party.

The second slide which has surfaced has information on the successor to Wii Fit. The new exercise game will be sold for $29.99 in a disc-only edition or $99.99 for a bundle with the balance board. Apart from that, the remaining information only serves to reinforce the game's Wii Fit + title, as it sounds like the same game with a new coat of paint.

It may not be true, but the presentation looks professional enough that I'd be willing to believe it. And I think I'd probably try the cycling it if I had some more concrete data on its effectiveness. I rather like cycling as an exercise but I'm never comfortable exercising in public. This could be a worthwhile investment.

Boot Camp: EA Sports Active 30-Day Challenge (Week 4) photo

Follow me as I spend a month trying to better myself by using EA Sports Active to exercise and follow its diet tips.

Well, I've finally come to the end of my month-long training with EA Sports Active. It's been an interesting month, coming into this whole thing not really knowing what would happen to me. I had hopes that I'd undergo some sort of magical transformation, but knew in the back of mind that changes would be minimal.

Still, I was surprised at how things went this past month. All I can say at this point is to follow me after the jump as I give you my full breakdown of Active after the jump. I think you'll be interested to hear how it all turned out.

Boot Camp: EA Sports Active 30-Day Challenge (Week 3) photo

Follow me as I spend a month trying to better myself by using EA Sports Active to exercise and follow its diet tips.

Coming back from Otakon, I had a nagging problem that only got worse with the drive home and some horsing around with friends. I injured my knee, and had to hobble around for a week before it was better enough to attempt exercising again.

Upon my return to playing Active, I was greeted with the message that I couldn't complete the challenge at this point. It offered to let me restart my whole adventure again, which I politely declined. I ran through another week's worth of training to see what it threw at me, and then ran out of time with the 30 days it had slotted for me.

Well, next week I'll still be using the software, just to see how the game is outside of the 30-Day Challenge. But, until then, follow me after the jump for my adventures this week.

Boot Camp: EA Sports Active 30-Day Challenge (Week 2) photo

Follow me as I spend a month trying to better myself by using EA Sports Active to exercise and follow its diet tips.

Coming back from Otakon, I've had some time away from Active to really sit and think about how the software handles, and to try it out once again with a bit of a different mindset when it comes to the game.

For those of you just joining me, I'm now heading into my third week of training using EA Sports' Active software, working to complete their 30-Day Challenge and see what effects it has on my body. Will it turn me into Brad Nicholson, or will I end up the same as I always was, except a little bit sweatier?

If you haven't already, check out my first impressions of the title from last week, and follow me after the jump, where I take a critical eye to the flaws of Active.

Look at her. She looks amazing. She probably does a lot of pilates.

Well, what do you know? Daisy Fuentes has a pilates game coming out for the Wii! We've been sent four videos showing some of the many, many exercises you can perform with a virtual Daisy Fuentes in the game. Or, alternately, you can perform one exercise while seated on your couch while watching a virtual Daisy Fuentes perform many, many exercises. Player's choice.

I had actually forgotten Daisy Fuentes even existed and was somewhat surprised to learn that she was still alive and/or culturally relevant enough to justify her own videogame. I remember being in my teens, watching her on MTV. Then she just sort of disappeared. It was a bit of a shock to my system learning that the woman has actually had work since then, but IMDB does not lie.

Check out the videos after the jump.

Boot Camp: EA Sports Active 30-Day Challenge (Week 1) photo

When you take a look at me, I don't seem like someone in dire need of a diet or an exercise program. Clocking in at 6'2" and 184lbs, I come off as a bit lanky to most people -- but the truth is, I've got a lot of fat that manages to pack its way into inconspicuous spots, and frankly, I could stand to get rid of it. Not only that, it wouldn't hurt to build up some muscle -- although I'm not expecting EA Sports Active to turn me into my counterpart here at Destructoid.

So, I decided to take Active's 30-Day Challenge in an effort to see what sort of change the game can really help with. Since changing your body for the better isn't solely about exercise, I'm doing this in conjunction with Toshio Okada's Sayonara, Mr. Fatty!, a book I've raved about over on Japanator. I really encourage you to check out the review, and the book itself -- it's not solely about dieting, but for putting the reins on any part of your life that you wish to control.

I hope you'll follow me over the next four weeks as I attempt to change myself for the better.

Are you ready for the most over enthusiastic trailer you've ever seen? No, I mean are you really ready? You're about to be blown over by enthusiasm for a game no one should be that enthusiastic about so you're going to need to be sitting down and have MadWorld turned on to remind you that the Wii can do cool stuff. OK, if you're ready, hit the jump and experience the trailer for Walk It Out.

It's a game about walking that even Dad can play, and if it comes with that "personal trainer" lady it will even make him punch the TV and probably turn to alcohol abuse. The amount of chipperness exuding from her is disturbing, and one wonders why a personal trainer would be so excited about a game that mimics walking when, and you can correct me if I'm wrong here, going outside and walking is even easier to do than turning your Wii on and setting everything up. From my experience personal trainers usually work to remove barriers between people and exercise.

I understand Wii Fit, and most of the other fitness games, as they offer something in your home that you may have to travel to a gym for and pay some money to do, but walking? Yes, the game let's you "walk" to beats and if you do it well it opens new areas and it has a plethora of mini-games, but if you give me 50 bucks and pop on your iPod I'll open your front door and show you a nifty little game I call Strolling Around the Block.

Fitness blogger says games need warning labels photo

A fitness blog called Winston Salem Fitness recently published an editorial calling out the Wii Fit and suggesting that videogames be packaged with a label warning against the possibility of obesity from their use:

Overall, I give Nintendo credit for trying to make a game that tries to get people to be more active, which is more than can be said for other video game manufacturers. However, this will not do anything in terms of chipping away at the American obesity problem.

In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say that the video game industry needs to follow the route of the tobacco and alcohol manufacturers, and state that excessive use of their product could lead to inactivity and obesity, rather than try to make a half-hearted effort at increasing American activity levels...

I love when people who hardly know anything about videogames try to write about videogames. It's so quaint. The blog's claim that Wii Fit will not help you to lose titanic amounts of weight is quite right, although anyone using it expecting a result of that type deserves to learn the hard way that their posterior will only  continue to grow wider. However, slapping a label on a videogame to brand it as a possible factor in obesity means that technically anything I partake in that isn't active should get the same label: movies, food, porn (well, I guess the latter could inspire some form of movement).

What do you think? Do games need warning labels?

Fitness company trademarks Fitness Hero and Workout Hero photo

The whole "Hero" craze is in full swing these days, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Breakfast Hero or Nursing Home Hero pop up in someone's trademark list. The most recent trademarks are Fitness Hero and Workout Hero, but instead of beng trademarked by Activision, it seems they've been snapped up by VPT Technologies, a company that specializes in exergaming (Wii Fit, Let's Yoga, etc).

Hard to say if these games could nd up being good if they were made or turn into a total borefest, but it looks like the exercise gaming craze is showing no signs of slowing down. All I want to know is, do I get to wear a ridiculous terrycloth headband?
