This week's update comes courtesy of Nakky's blog over at the official Super Street Fighter IV website, and teases some big news on the way. Nakky has a screencap of Chun-Li being treated unkindly by someone of unknown identity, and she says there'll be "something huge" announced next week.
Nakky teases, "Chun-Li's getting beat up... but, by who?" Seems pretty safe to assume the big news will be a character reveal, and Nakky says the info will also be published in the 11/26 issue of Famitsu, which goes on sale shortly. This pleases me, because as we all know, Famitsu tends to be ... how shall I put it ... less than watertight with its secrets.
We'll probably know for sure before we're supposed to, but until then, feel free to point at the new stage pictured above and speculate as to whose it might be. In the meantime, Dan Hibiki, El Fuerte and Rufus have been added to the official character profiles page as well.
"Man, a whole article for one character?...They should do the whole roster. I mean they announced it, the announced all the online modes at once, now they should do the rest of the characters at once."...
You might not have heard, but they had to shut down operations at the Large Hadron Collider again. I didn't mention this when it happened a couple weeks ago because it was Nick's birthday and that gave me a good excuse to make fun of him, which is somehing I like to do from time to time. But they did. You know why?
Because a bird dropped a piece of bread on it.
Let's review. Work was halted on the world's largest high-energy particle accelerator, because a passing bird dropped a piece of bread onto a section of exterior machinery. This resulted in significant overheating in parts of the collider, forcing scientists to ...
... you know what, I think they're making this shit up. First there was the coolant leak, then that whole bit about this thing coming back from the future to destroy itself. Now you're telling me they put the brakes on the whole project because a goddamned seagull decided he didn't want that crouton for lunch after all.
They're not even trying to be sneaky about it, they just show up to work and play Animal Crossing or something all day. Then when the benefactors stop by and ask why the collider's not running yet, they cook up these stories and then laugh about it when everyone leaves.
Point is, I should have been a physicist. Those guys know how to Friday.

Carlton, ladies and gentlemen. That's what I'm talkin' about.
Hamza's still off looking at moose, so you're stuck with me again. But that's okay, because I talked to Jim earlier, who's finally gotten to play Raskulls, and he tells me it's a great deal of fun. That's good to hear. Keep an eye out for more on that this week.
Chad shed a manly tear over Mother 3, Ben gave us a look at some hot Monster Hunter action, Niero's showing some college kids how to be awesome like him, I listened to the same Judy and Mary album for six solid hours, and a dog played Tony Hawk: Ride. Doesn't get much better than that, at least not on 11/19/09.
With the DSi LL set to be released in Japan this Saturday, display units have started popping up here and there to help Nintendo promote it. Anoop over at Andriasang got to peep some at the Bic Camera and Tsutaya in Shibuya today, and he confirms what many people seem to have assumed would be the case from the start: It's big and ugly.
None of the display units were playable, so there's no telling if the big screen makes up for the Gina syndrome. It shouldn't be much longer before these beasts start showing up on display shelves stateside, however, so we'll all get to see for ourselves. In the meantime, take a look at some of Anoop's spy photos in the gallery below.
"The colors for the DSi LL are way better than those of the normal DSi. However, it's way too large and since the display resolution is still the same I can't even imagine how ugly those huge pix..."...
G4's Adam Sessler recently sat down for a chat with Seth Killian of Capcom about Super Street Fighter IV. During their interview, they've given us a look at one of the game's new stages, India.
You can check out the full video after the jump to see for yourself. Not a hell of a lot in the way of new information, really, but it's cool to see the new stage. It looks vibrant and well animated, with elephants doing their elephanty thing in the background like in Dhalsim's old SFII stage. What do you think the next new stage background should be?

Capcom has just announced that it's come to terms with Plan B Entertainment on the rights to a film based on its upcoming game, Dark Void. Plan B Entertainment apparently being Brad Pitt's own production company, it's possible/likely he'll be the one starring in said film.
The project has been billed as a sci-fi action franchise, and I'll let the word "franchise" haunt your imaginations on its own. Capcom calls the movie a "potential starring vehicle" for Pitt, and given he's not such a bad guy, maybe it won't be such a bad movie. Right? Guys? Ehhhh ... *sigh*
Capcom has been working with FAB Starpoint on some new Mega Man merchandise so those of us in North America don't have to be so jealous of all the cool stuff they always get in Japan. Kramez over at Capcom-Unity has given us a peek at what to expect when the goods start hitting retailers and Capcom's online shop.
There's a messenger bag, a PSP case, a couple of chain wallets, a journal and a sketchbook to start things off. Some of it is looking pretty rad, and I wouldn't mind having that sketchbook in particular. You can check it all out in the gallery below. See anything you like?
Hi. It's me. I'll be bringing you tonight's recap because Hamza went to Canada for some reason. Maybe to see a moose. It was probably to see some game, but I'm going to pretend it was a moose because that's cooler.
Jim is also out of town this week, and he'll be kicking it with Halfbrick to get a look at their upcoming XBLA game, Raskulls, which looks pretty awesome. Stay tuned for more info and details on the game this week as a product of the aforementioned kicking it.
No More Heroes is coming to the PS3/360, Facebook came to PS3 for some dumbass reason, and other monumental events which will forever change the course of human history transpired, all on this fine day called 11/18/09.
The good folks over at EventHubs have a post up discussing SSFIV's character roster, and according to Capcom's Christian Svensson, the lineup was already decided upon some time ago. When asked on the Capcom-Unity forum if there would be fan polls to choose the added characters, Sven said:
"To set expectations the game is rather far along and one of the FIRST things we did was sort out what the roster would be. While we're happy to accept additional feedback for future titles (if they should exist at some point in the future), the ship has pretty much sailed for Super Street Fighter 4."
Not exactly shocking, but it's still interesting to think about. This means the actual final roster has been known by someone somewhere for quite a while, which does lend some weight to the allegedly leaked info from September. Which, with the exception of the arcade release deets, has been right on the damn money so far, even predicting Juri before she was announced, right down to her fighting style, country of origin and even her backstory.
Point is, don't be so quick to shrug off that alleged info, and don't get your hopes up if your character's not on the list. According to Svensson, it's a bit late for that. So if it's all decided, when are we going to hear something official? Seth Killian says we'll find out about the other fighters before Christmas.

Ever vigilant in that department, Siliconera has unearthed another Japanese trademark, this time from Namco Bandai. It seems the company has registered something called Ridge Racer Accelerated, and if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably a new Ridge Racer game. Thanks, scientific method!
Nothing is known about it yet, obviously, but it's certainly been a while since we had a new Ridge Racer title, and I'm pleased to hear it's (probably) coming back. Is it a Wii title? A hot new HD console release? It's Ridge Racer, which is all I need to hear, but you guys feel free to take a guess if you like.
Uh ... yeah, I don't know about that. Look, I like Monster Hunter and everything, and I'm all for merchandising the hell out of it. Some of that stuff is pretty dope. This pillow based on the game's Furu Furu monster, however ...
Well, you might be able to sleep on that. I have enough trouble finding my way to snoozeland as it is. The last thing I need is to have this death snausage lurking in the dark somewhere. What's with that collar thing around its head? I'm guessing that's its head. There are feet and wings too, which doesn't make for a lot of appendages, but it's more than you'll have left when you wake up next to this dude.
The pillow is 105cm long and 28cm in diameter, and the aforementioned collar is easily removed for washing. Capcom says it's there because that's the spot that's most likely to get dirty. (???) Its mouth also functions as "a pocket" for storing your PSP, sleepytime provisions, or whatever body parts it happens to bite off in the night. There's also an equally nightmarish white version available, and both will retail for ¥9,240 starting in January.
Developer Turn 10 has just announced two new content packs for Forza Motorsport 3, the first being a free Hyundai Genesis Coupe car pack.
This one is available on XBL now to Gold members, free of charge, and includes the Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the HKS Genesis Coupe, and a special Forza 3 edition Genesis Coupe. Three free cars? Sure, why not. And at a base 300 horsepower, the new Hyundai Genesis isn't a bad one, either.
The other offering is called the Hot Holidays Car Pack, and will be available December 8th for 400 spacebucks. This pack includes several purpose-built race cars, including the Ferrari 458 Italia. The rest of the content within has yet to be revealed, but Turn 10 seems pretty excited about it, and will be slowly unveiling the other cars over the next two weeks on Forzamotorsport.net.
To whet your appetite, they're going to offer the new 2010 Audi S4 as a free download when the Holiday pack drops. Sweet! Maye the New Nissan GT-R will be in that DLC pack somewhere. That would be nice. Anything you guys are hoping to see?
"Phos has a point, if EA are allowed to produce a game with the car for MS's machine, why can't Turn10? Sounds feasible.

Senor Perrito del Burrito says: Anthony and Jim are not here this week.

Imagine SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono in a bathrobe, drink in hand, watching SSFIV replays. That somewhat ridiculous image is apparently the inspiration behind Super Street Fighter IV's new Replay Channel mode. The SSFIV dev blog has again been updated, and this week gives us a closer look at this new feature.
The Replay Channels were something Ono himself requested, and the staff talks about their feelings on when replays were first made available in SFIV. They note that it was not only fun to watch top tier players duke it out, but that it could be just as entertaining to watch the worst of the worst. Additionally, you might learn a thing or two either way, picking up tricks from the good and being reminded what not to do from the bad.
Only a few of the channels were discussed today, one being the "Battle Log" channel, which will automatically log your online match replays. The "New Replay" channel logs only the latest from players who've won a certain number of consecutive ranked matches, so this will be where you'll want to tune in to watch high level players do their thing.
The Battle Log channel only holds a certain number of replays, with the older ones eventually being dropped to make room for new vids. However, you can still save your favorites as you like in "My List." This ties in with the "My Channel" option, which showcases the "My List" replay collection of everyone on your friends list.
Voice chat is enabled here, and Shoizaki suggests that players use the Replay Channels as an opportunity for "snack time." That sounds about right to me, and it'll be a great way to keep the party alive between matches or after everyone's thumbs and stick fingers are tired. This is looking to be a pretty awesome addition, and next week we'll get some further info on the new bonus stages to go along with it.
Now this is awesome. Empty Clip Studios is hard at work on a new vertically scrolling shooter called Symphony, which creates enemy patterns based on waveforms generated by whatever music you have playing. The game uses custom soundtracks, and enemies are produced dynamically to match the song's tempo and so on.
In other words, Bach for easy mode and Slayer for hard mode. It's up to you. What comes out, how mean it is and how much of it there'll be all depends on what you're listening to. The game is slated for release sometime in 2010, but no platform has been specified as of yet. Obviously, it's got to be something that supports custom soundtracks, so PC is likely, and possibly PSN or XBLA as well.
Long story short, it looks like a hybrid of REZ and Audiosurf. Judging by the trailer above, it's also beautiful, with its simple yet flashy vector-like graphics. We'll be keeping an eye on this one for sure, and we'll let you know when you'll be able to attempt to 1CC Raining Blood.
[Via the Shmups Twitter, which you should be following.]

Here it is, folks. Ready? Final Fantasy XIII will be released in North America AND Europe on March 9th, 2010.
This comes a short three months after the Japanese release date, which is somewhat surprising. Additionally, Square Enix has announced its new "Lucky Number 13" campaign, in which new info on the game will be trickled out on the 13th of every month until the game's launch, starting today.
So there you have it, March 9th. Has everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief? Is that soon enough for you? Let us know what you think.

So I've been playing Forza 3 this week. I keep trying to NOT play Forza 3, but I can't. It won't let me. I keep turning off the Xbox and walking away to do something else, and ten minutes later I'm signing in again. It's a force, I tell you. It's sentient. Also, you can make Beedog itasha. There's another shot of that after the jump.
Dale was right, though. I don't know if I'd have given it a 10, with its painful load times and sh*tty soundtrack, but the Forza force would probably have made me do it anyway. It's like an invisible giant squid, which is an analogy that is probably only making sense because I just got out of bed a few minutes ago. But it is. The more I try to fight it, the tighter its grip gets. It's madness.
My point is, if you've got $60 and a 360 and you like racing sims, you should be playing this right now. And if you aren't? I hate to be the one to tell you, but you, sir, are a dumbass. You may have time to pick it up and play it after tonight, because it's FRIDAY.
Also, the mighty Adam Dork is about to double down. Hit the jump for the video, the other side of the Beedog car, and a picture of a pretty girl who I posted because I felt like it.
If you missed it yesterday, the addition of bonus stages and new online modes have been announced for Super Street Fighter IV. We got a peek at a new trailer that showcases some of this hotness last night, but it was in Japanese. Now we've got an English version, so you can actually tell what's going on if you don't read moonspeak.
Take a look for a glimpse of the new car-smashing and barrel breaking bonus stages in action. There are also details on how the new tournament-friendly multiplayer modes will work, and how you can save your own replays or view those saved by top tier players in order to study using the game's new Replay Channel featue.
This is shaping up to be a more than justified re-release, with the 9-player voice chat enabled lobbies and potential for huge fun in the form of personalized home tourneys. Like I said yesterday, these new team battles and expanded multiplayer modes are now the biggest draw for me, not even taking into account the new characters and balance tweaks. And there's still even more yet to be announced. Judging by this video, SSFIV players are in for some massively good times come Spring.
What up. Did you guys know it's Nick Chester's birthday today? He's 31, which is a whole year older than me, and I do my best to make sure he never forgets that. Which would work a lot better if he were reading this, which he's probably not. But still. It's better than getting sappy about how one of my best friends turned into my boss and how that could have been weird but it wasn't and I'm totally super proud of him and all the awesome things I've watched him achieve over the past 3 years. Instead of that, I will make fun of him and say HAHA you're older than me, because then I don't lose my street cred, yo. But yeah, wish him a happy birthday when you see him.
Anyway, a collection of things that distracted me while I was trying to write this:
Hairless bear or gatekeeper dog thing from Ghostbusters? YOU DECIDE
Capcom's official Super Street Fighter IV website has just been updated today, and it was a relatively big one. First off, the character page now details Chun-Li, Crimson Viper and Cammy, with character profile pages and imagery in the new pencil art style.
But you've already seen these ladies before. You want to know about all the other updates, like bonus stages and the hot new multiplayer features, right? Hit the jump and we'll get to it.
For three years, SCEJ's Mainichi Issho has been a free app for the PS3, and as far as I'm concerned, one of the greatest things mankind has ever conceived. If you play it, you know that the "game" is largely made up of a daily news show, which awards you points for watching. You can then spend these points on cool, often gaming-related items to pimp out Toro's room. Well, not anymore, because Sony's kicking the poor little guy out of his house.
As reported by Andriasang, Mainichi Issho (moonspeak for Every Day Together) is being replaced by a new app called Weekly Toro Station, which as you may have guessed, will be updated weekly on Friday nights instead of every day. That's all just lovely, except that in order to rebrand this, they're throwing my boy out onto the street. Instead of his cozy room, Toro will now take up residence in a dirty, vacant lot somewhere outside.
Oh, but the good sh*tty news? You can put him up in a mansion if you want to shell out $8 a month to pay his rent. You'll be able to transfer your Mainichi Issho game data to the new app regardless, and you can still watch the now-weekly news show and access the arcade and so on. But unless you pony up ¥800 and pay for the "Platinum Member" service, you'll be missing out on many features, getting the Toro Station show at a later time, and poor Toro will be homeless, with all your collected items and goodies sitting outside in the vacant lot.
Toro gets evicted on November 11th, at which point Mainichi Issho will be fully replaced on PSN with the new Weekly Toro Station app. Long story short? What used to be a free, daily service is now weekly and costs $8 a month for the full experience. To nudge you in that direction, Sony is yanking people's heart strings by tossing Toro out on his ass if you opt for the stripped-down, free version. Classy way to treat your own mascot, fellas. Catch some pics, a video of the sadness and more details after the jump.
Well it's about time. The Xbox 360 version of King of Fighters XII has finally been patched to fix its various online troubles and stability issues. Its PS3 counterpart was issued some time ago, as it didn't have the red tape and nonsensical certification hurdles, and this should bring the 360 version up to speed.
The patch addresses everything from matchmaking and chat restrictions to response time and lag issues, so hopefully whatever was broken before will be kosher from now on. Let's hope nothing slipped between the cracks, lest we wait through another several months of Microsoft hoop jumping for it to be fixed.
The update is live now, so if you found the game less than playable online before, it might be worth giving another shot. Hit the jump for all the details in the official press release.

We received a few tips this afternoon, pointing to a Forzamotorsport.net forum post, in which user Slim135 says he was banned for a Breast Cancer Awareness bumper sticker as part of his custom livery setup in Forza 3. The way we heard it, the sticker got him banned for having the word "breast" on it. Sounds a little ridiculous, right? Turns out it is.
We contacted Turn 10's Community Manager, Che Chou, to find out why someone would be banned for a relatively tame word like "breast." As it turns out, the bumper sticker actually said "Save the Ta-Tas" on it, which some users found offensive and subsequently reported as such. Not knowing this was an actual slogan from an actual breast cancer foundation, Turn 10 issued a ban in response to a number of inappropriate content complaints from the Forza community.
Afterward, they were pointed toward this website, which is part of a real breast cancer foundation that actually does use the slogan, "Save the Ta-Tas." With the misunderstanding cleared up, the ban was promptly lifted. If the internet mobs put down their pitchforks long enough to take notice, they'd see that all is well.
That's not to say you should go about pasting boobs all over your Nissan in Forza 3. But if you heard that Turn 10 will ban you for the text "Breast Cancer" because "breast" is a naughty, naughty word, you heard wrong.
"I got banned 2 weeks with not really know why, the most offensive thing i done is making a "fuck you" finger with actually is just 5 pink squares with one of them pointing up. I think thats a lit..."...
Capcom is releasing a patch today for both the XBLA and PSN versions of Marvel Vs Capcom 2. It includes several console-specific fixes to improve stability, as well as a few universal changes. Perhaps most notably, Cable's Hyper Beam is no longer unblockable. Get your timing right, and the raep will cease.
For you purists out there, Capcom notes that this is a bug fix, and not a design change. A few other kinks have been worked out, such as Magneto's Tempest dealing incorrect amounts of chip damage. Even better, the game shouldn't crash anymore when two players enter a lobby at the same time on 360. The full list of fixes is posted after the jump if you're intersted.
All in all, this should make for a truer, more playable port of the game, which is lovely. Additionally, the 360 leaderboards will be completely reset on Friday, November 6th. It's going to be the Wild West of MvC2 out there, so if you had a formidable spot in the rankings, you'd better brush up your skills and get ready to go defend it.

Anyway, HALLOWEEN. My favorite holiday is finally here. So many awesome things rolled into one occasion. Spooky stuff, candy, horror movies, candy, skeletons, bats, candy, and skeletons. Also, everything is black and orange, and that sh*t's just classy. Straight up.
I love this stuff so much I leave the decorations out all year long. Well, except for the Jack O'Lanterns, which I light on fire and throw at neighborhood emo kids. And when pumpkins are out of season and it starts snowing, I use snowballs. And when it stops snowing, I use molotovs.

Since she was announced, many of us have been wondering how Juri will play in the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV. Those of you who made it out to Capcom's Fight Club event in NYC may have seen her in action first hand, but there's still a pretty good chance you never actually got to try her out for yourself.
Thankfully, Battle Director Taisaku Okada has taken some time to update the game's developer blog with a little info on just what you can expect when you first choose the sexy South Korean spider lady from the game's character select screen. Capcom-Unity has a post up that's been kindly translated by Jigsaw over at the SRK forums, telling us just what Okada had to say about Juri.
She's a motion character, as you've probably already heard, and the post gives us some info on how they decided on taekwondo as her fighting style. Battle Planner Tamamura says anyone who liked playing as Yun or Yang should feel right at home with Juri, and that she's going to be quick and complex, requiring some skill to master. You can check out the full post after the jump, along with a few screens in the gallery below.
Be warned, it's a fairly big read. Big ups to Jigsaw for translating this huge post.

In response to all the resounding hoorays and hurrahs after his promise of a Zone of the Enders sequel last week, Hideo Kojima has issued a followup post over at his blog. He says:
"The reaction was greater than I'd expected. The comments topped the 100 mark, and the access count reached levels of the Tokyo Game Show time. It was picked up in a variety of places, including the net and press, and spread throughout the world."
He went on to say he's even heard rumors that the used price on a copy of Zone of the Enders 2 has gone up. But the biggest surprise for him, he says, was the internal reaction from Konami's own staff. Apparently, people who worked on the first two games have been catching him in elevators and around the office, begging him to take part in the game's development. Some have even gone so far as to decorate their desks with Anubis (ZOE's Japanese title) paraphernalia in anticipation.
Kojima again promises the sequel will happen, and his official response to all the outcry is, naturally, "please wait a little more." My official response to that is, "Ok, but stop blogging and get on it." On an unrelated note, Kojima has the most badass-looking staff ever. Seriously, look at this sh*t. I want a job there so I can dress like a secret agent every day, too.
Good morning! What's the best thing to wake up to on a day like today? If you said "bacon and coffee," you are WRONG. The answer is actually these screenshots for Darius Burst on PSP. Alright, so I can think of better things, but this is what I've got right now, so work with me.
And what's the only thing that could make this game better than it already was? You're right, it's the girl in the headphones. But the next best thing is original character art by the father of mecha musume himself, Fumikane Shimada. Somehow this slipped by me when I posted the trailer a while back, but there's no mistaking the Strike Witches character designer's work here. Good choice, Taito.
Darius Burst hits Japan on December 24th, priced at 5,040 Yen. And what's better than importing it? Downloading the digital version from the PSN Store for only 4,000 Yen and saving a ton of money. Check out the screens in the gallery below while I make some bacon and coffee.
If you're anything like Jim, you can't wait for Bayonetta to come out. Well, guess what? You don't have to. Siliconera has confirmed that the Japanese PS3 version, at least, is not only region-free, but presented completely in English.
I can't say I blame you if you own both consoles and decide you'd still rather wait for the US 360 version, but waiting is exactly what you'll be doing. For a long time. Of course, there does still exist the possibility that the 360 version will also be region-free, but knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Still, if you're one of those PS3-only types and really can't wait, this one is available tomorrow, and the entire game is in English. The voices, menus, all the in-game text, everything. Moonspeak-free. If the 360 version isn't an option for you, I'd pounce on this immediately, as you could theoretically be playing the game as early as this weekend.
There it is, folks, in the gallery below. The final, official box art for Tatsunoko Vs Capcom. Is it everything you'd hoped it would be? Works for me, I'd say. It's got Frank West on it, after all.
Either way, now you know what to look for when the game hits store shelves in North America on January 26th. how do you guys think it stacks up against the box art for the original Japanese release? Who's buying a Wii for this?
Fresh from the official PlayStation Twitter, it appears 3D Dot Game Heroes is definitely coming to North America. How do we know this? Well, because the tweet says:
"No need to import - 3D Dot Game Heroes for PS3 is DEFINITELY coming to NA! Spread the word, more to come."
They even broke out the caps lock on us. And everyone knows caps = serious business. Unfortunately, that was all they said, but it's great news nonetheless, albeit completely expected. We'll bring you the "more to come" part as it does so.
"If I remember correctly, the last game this site hyped up like this was scribblenauts and we all know how that turned out. It will be a great game no doubt, but can we please lay off the hype a ..."...
At yesterday's Monster Hunter Festa finals, Capcom unveiled a new project in the works for PSP, called Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Village. It's a Monster Hunter Freedom spinoff, in which you'll get to play as the Felyne, Airu. What? Awesome!
Very little was said about the game, except that it's currently in production. If I had to guess, I'd say this is going to be something like what Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? was to the Disgaea series, or what Chocobo's Dungeon is to Final Fantasy. In other words, it's probably a lighthearted action-adventure. In other other words, a fun-ass little game.
I wish i could tell you more, but we know squat at this point. You can, however, watch a short video of the announcement after the jump, which is essentially just an animated version of the above header image. But really, what's cooler than that? Not much; at least not this early in the morning. Stay tuned for more info on this one as they spill it.

Everyone seemed to like GoGo the other day, so I'm using this as an excuse to post another video. This one has a skeleton in it, though. And a scary cat guy. It's also a good example of the fact that you never know what to expect from a GoGo song. Its like four tracks in one. Fun facts:
It's pronounced "go go nana ichi hachi hachi"
I am in love with Yuu Nakashima
Totally not kidding, we're getting married
I need a new bass and I was thinking Fender. Thoughts?
I wonder if Niero regrets letting me get away with this every week

[dTunes is a community organized blog showcasing the musical tastes of Destructoid's users. For two weeks, the editorial team is commandeering the series because, hey, we like music too. To further expand your horizons, make sure to check out the dTunes blog.]
After yesterday's fine introduction by one Mr. Conrad Zimmerman, I'd like to welcome you to dTunes Day 2. It feels weird to be writing about something other than videogames. Not weird in the same way that it's weird to type your own name in the headline of a post, but weird in that this was an oddly refreshing change of pace for me.
It was also a difficult task, since I'm limited to what I can find on Youtube and the like. A lot of the music I'd really like to share with you, like some local bands' work, doesn't exist on the internet, which is a shame.
Thankfully, however, most of the important stuff was available in some form, and what comes after the jump should give you a pretty good idea of what I listen to. I'm one of those people who puts headphones on in the morning and then falls asleep 18 hours later with them still on. I have music playing 24 hours a day, whether it's on an iPod, a stereo, or stuck in my head. I'm the guy next to you on the subway with his sh*t turned up too loud. Rockin'.
I love music even more than I love videogames (gasp!) and I'm delighted for a chance to talk about it.
"Just been going through and seeing what the dtoid editors listen to. You're the only one to list some Mike Patton therefore you are the only winner.
Congrats!"...
Senor Perrito del Burrito says: We're all gonna die. I don't know if you've been following news on the Large Hadron Collider, but it was reported yesterday that a couple of physicists actually believe it's trying to destroy itself. From the future. Word is, this Higgs boson they've been hoping to coax forth might be:
"So abhorrent to nature that its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveller who goes back in time to kill his grandfather."
Maybe it's just me, but if you build a device that can create sentient subatomic particles which are capable of travelling back in time to prevent themselves from being discovered, perhaps it's a good idea to, you know, take the hint. It's ok, Dr. Freeman. I don't mind that you wasted six billion dollars. You learned your lesson and nobody's angry with you. just put down the crowbar and step away.
That way we'll get to stick around long enough to go out the way nature intended, as part of a widespread zombie apocalypse. The point is, we don't have much time, kids. You'd better get your FRIDAY on.
As rumored last week, Nintendo today officially announced Pokepark for the Wii. Very little was said about the game, but a briefing held for retailers last week had a few loose-lipped attendees, and they've let a Meowth or two out of the bag.
You'll take control of Pikachu, with your initial objective being to make friends with the other Pokemon at the park. This is done via minigames like tag, battles and quizzes. Once you've earned a few buddies, you can team up with them for more advanced co-op adventures.
Interaction with other Pokemon naturally makes up a big part of the game, and Pokepark is said to feature a screen grab mode, which allows you to take snapshots of your favorites, or any interesting Poke-happenings. Sounds a bit like Pokemon Snap! for Wii, maybe. The game is scheduled for release in Japan on December 5th at 4,800 Yen (roughly $50) and is rumored to include a pack of stickers for pimping out your Wiimote with Poke-things.
I think this game looks f*cking awesome, and I don't care what anyone says about that.
The official blog for SNK's upcoming arcade title King of Fighters: Sky Stage was updated today, unveiling two new characters. If you haven't already solved this great mystery by looking at the picture above, they are Iori and Kula. (Yay Kula!)
The games goes on location test this weekend in Akihabara, and Iori and the new blog post says Iori and Kula will be playable. Andriasang reports that these two will take a bit more getting used to than the previously revealed Athena and Kyo, who are supposedly pretty easy to use.
You can check out a few screenshots of Kula and Iori in action below. Who else would you guys like to see join the roster for this weird shmup/fighter mash-up?
Joe Asakura comes to us from the Gatchaman series, and Zero is, of course, from Mega Man X. You can check out both characters in action after the jump, and you'll see that Zero offers more of a close-combat play style for those who want to rock a Mega Man character without it being a projectile-fest.
Joe the Condor I'll leave up to you. Do you guys think he makes a good addition to the roster? Is everybody happy? I think the game could have used some Speed Racer, but otherwise I'm happy. Take a look at the videos and let us know what you think.
You may not have heard, but Sega's got this new thing called PlaySEGA, which is a browser-based service that lets you play old Genesis games and such. To both promote and enhance that experience, they're now offering the thoroughly awesome (color choices and dumb logo aside) USB Saturn pad you see above.
You can try the service, free of charge, for up to 10 days. If you decide you like it and want to sign up for a three-month membership, the $14.95 you pay for that will also net you this worthy USB clone of the greatest controller ever. Of course, you could always just sign up, cancel your subscription after three months, and come away with the badass Japanese Saturn controller for only $15.
No word on whether this thing will work with your PS3 or 360, but I'd guess it probably will on PS3, as the DIY USB Saturn pads have been known to function pretty well. Probably not so much on 360, but hey, it works with a PC. And either way, you're only out fifteen bucks and you get to sample three months of great online games in the process. Sounds good to me, how about you?
"You know at first I thought this controller looked a bit shit, but now that I look at it again, it actually looks quite nice. It could do without the PLAY text above SEGA, though. I think I might..."...
See that? That's Abel from Street Fighter IV. Or it was, anyway. This week's update to the Super Street Fighter IVdev blog gives us, among other things, a look at what the Frenchman could have been if the team had stuck with the original concept.
Battle Planner Taisaku Okada says that Abel was intended to convey the idea that the weak could defeat the strong, and was thusly conceived as "A small Judo character, who could be mistaken for a girl."
I dunno about "mistaken," that just looks like a girl to me. Either way, even a trap or reverse-trap character would still have been more interesting than the Abel we actually ended up with. I still think Abel is one of the most boring characters in all of videogames, let alone the Street Fighter universe. Which version do you prefer?
See how happy they are? Spelunker looks like he's about to burst into song. Probably. Anyway, From Software held a little event in Yokohama over the weekend to commemorate 3D Dot Game Heroes heading into production, and brought along these rad statues.
Producer Takueti Masaru and Project Manager Misawa Hiroyuki of Silicon Studios were on hand, declaring October 10th "Day of the Dot." Why that date holds any particular significance is beyond me, but if you've got some insight, feel free to enlighten us all in the comments.
The important thing to take from all of this is that the game's development is finished, and it's now in the production stages. Also, there exist these two awesome statues somewhere, which someone should steal for the Destructoid office. Check out a few more photos in the gallery.
"Gold already? o.O

In case you haven't heard the good news, Pop'n Music Portable is on its way to the PSP, complete with 9-button mode and the classic art style fans have come to love. Now according to these screenshots spotted on Andriasang, this version also appears to include some kind of story, career or adventure mode as well.
In the gallery you'll see a few shots of Mimi standing on a board game type of map, which you'll presumably have to work your way through in order to unlock new songs and such. That should add a nice layer of depth to the game, and it'll be fun to see what the other characters she meets along the way are up to.
You'll also see that the game retains the familiar Pop'n look while you're actually playing the songs, which should promote a sigh of relief for fans who might have been anxious after seeing the upcoming Wii game. Check it all out and let us know what you think.
Warning! A new brand game is approaching! Above you'll find the new trailer for Taito's upcoming Darius Burst on PSP, complete with fishies, lasers, and Engrish. The triumvirate of features essential to any good handheld STG. Okay, I just made that up.
This is our first look at the game in action after seeing some lovely screenshots a while back, and it's looking pretty good. I particularly like the way the ships have been rendered to match the ones from older Darius games, and the characters seem cool enough as well. The important thing, however, is that it still features giant mechanical fish, which you can shoot with lasers.
The game hits Japan on December 24th, priced at 5,040 Yen for the hard copy or 4,000 Yen for the PSN Store download. Maybe you can play this new brand game on your new brand PSPgo.

Hey, look at that, it's a new Metal Slug. Who knew? I didn't, because if I had, I would have pre-ordered it in Japan, where doing so apparently nets you the sweet pre-order bonus of a pair of underwear. This new PSP title features seven stages of militar ... wait, underwear? What?
Apparently so. SNK says quantities are limited as well, so if you plan to import this, you may want to specify that you're looking for a copy that comes with a free set of drawls. Anyway, Metal Slug XX includes seven stages, the combat school mini mission feature that was seen in Metal Slug 7, and the triumphant return of KOF characters Ralf and Clark.
SNK says the game will fully utilize the PSP hardware to make for gorgeous 2D visuals, and features ad-hoc play this time around for 2-player co-op. New Metal Slug action is always good news to me. The game hits Japan on December 23rd at 5,040 Yen. No word yet on a US release, but if it hits PSN digitally it'll be a cinch to get either way, albeit without the bonus underwear.
Also no word on whether the underwear are the magical kind that you can take off without removing your pants like the POWs in the game. Check out a trailer for Metal SLug XX after the jump and hit the gallery for some screens.
Sega announced today that they will soon be bringing the Vocaloid-themed PSP rhythm game Project Diva to arcades. Not only that, but between October 15th and Halloween, they'll be accepting fan-contributed songs for inclusion in its soundtrack.
Songs can be entered for consideration via the game's new channel on Nico Nico Douga, and both pro and amatuer Vocaloid Masters are welcome to try out. The tracks must be all-original material, obviously, and should run between 2:30 and 3:30 in length. Winning songs will be announced on the Nico Nico page November 16th, and their creators will be showered with Hatsune Miku swag as a reward. They'll also get to hear their track included in the game's location in January, and probably in the final game as well.
Little is known about the arcade version at this point, partiularly about its control scheme and interface. If you've got a Nico Nico account, you can check out a teaser clip of the game. It doesn't show much aside from the new character models, but they themselves look great, and the clip is set to Ryo/Supercell's Meruto, which is always nice to hear. Equally as nice is hearing the classic "Sayyy-Guh" Sega intro as spoken by Miku herself. We'll bring you more info on this title as it becomes available.
Since Super Street Fighter IV news is being obnoxiously trickled out a drop at a time and nobody wants to read a new post on it every ten minutes, I've decided to round up some info and make it part of ... whatever this thing I do on Friday is.
After the jump, you'll find some juicy new details on the game, compiled from several different stops along the interbutts highway. I was going to post more Memebon pictures, but this is just as good, I guess. Follow on as we kick off the weekend with some fresh upda ... mmm, Juri ...
If you've been following Lost Planet 2, you're likely aware that the game will feature some relatively deep character customization options this time around. If not, now you know. To explain how some of these options work, Snow over at Capcom-Unity has posted a blog that details just what you can customize and how.
Weapons, for instance, are broken down into categories, and you can choose a favorite from each. Snow points out that if you prefer a shotgun for your short-range weapon, that's what will appear on the battlefield for your character. If someone drops a different short-range weapon like a flamethrower, it'll be a shotgun when you go pick it up. Pretty cool stuff.
The post contains further info on costumes, taunts (called Emotes in LP2), and nickname tags like those seen in SFIV. There's also some hints and teasing on unannounced features, along with answers to some of the more popular questions about the game. It's a fun read if you've been looking forward to Lost Planet 2, and you can check it out here.
We spotted a tweet from Mister Jared Rea just a while ago, saying that Street Fighter IV had started showing up on Xbox Live as a Platinum Hits title. A quick trip over to the game's page on Xbox.com, and sure enough, there it is.
What's this mean? Well, it probably means just what I said. Do try to pay attention. Looks like Street Fighter IV is, or is about to be, added to the Xbox 360's list of Platinum Hits titles. That will mean its price will be dropped to reflect this new status as well. Not exactly surprising in light of all the Super SFIV buzz this week, but nice to see, nonetheless. Looks like Capcom hasn't wasted any time in doing the right thing here.
Just how much of a discount it will get, however, remains to be seen. Still no official word from Capcom on any of this yet, but we'll keep you posted.

As part of an interview in this week's Famitsu, (reported by Andriasang), Capcom's Yoshinori Ono had some interesting things to say about Super Street Fighter IV. The game's new characters were, of course, a hot topic, and Ono discussed the origin of the sexy new female fighter, Juri.
He says that during the development of SFIV, many members of the company's Korean branch asked why there was still not a Street Fighter character to represent their homeland, when Tekken and King of Fighters had both already included such. Korean SF players even assembled a petition asking for this, and Ono says these factors all led to the creation of Juri, noting that the concept of Super Street Fighter IV was to listen to fan feedback.
Thus, my new love interest came to be. Ono describes her as being on the erotic side, and when you see her Ultra combo in the new trailer posted above, you might notice the lip-licking, followed by a gentle stroke of her opponent's face before she whispers, "It felt good, didn't it?" and drives them mercilessly into the ground.
But Juri aside, Ono says that the additional returning characters like Dee Jay were selected based on fan outcry, and that those most requested via emails and on the company's official blog would make it into the final product. When asked if there would be any completely new additions aside from Juri, he simply laughed and said "probably." Rumor has it there will be one more, named Hakan, so keep an eye out for word on that.
As promised, Podtoid 118 happened last night. Aaron, Samit, Brad, Jim and I talked about things. Beyond that, I can guarantee nothing. We did talk about boobs for a minute, though.
Anthony never writes much of anything for these posts and I'm not going to either, because I just finished editing the podcast and now I don't feel like it. Blame him for setting such a bad example. You can subscribe to us on iTunes to get the show early, or you can go check it out here. This week's winner is Halidar, just because. If that's you, send your shipping info to podtoid@destructoid.com and we'll hook you up with some sort of thing.
After the somewhat frightening disappointment felt by some after seeing the thing they're calling Pop'n Music on the Wii, this might be a ray of sunshine for rhythm game fans. According to a magazine scan spooted on Siliconera, Pop'n is set to find its next home on the PSP, complete with 9-button mode and the look it's become loved for.
You can check out the scan in the gallery below, and you'll see that this version retains the game's traditional visuals and interface. It's heartening to know that we'll be able to choose from 3, 5, 7 or 9-button mode, but it makes my head hurt trying to figure out how 9 buttons are going to work on what is effectively a 10-button handheld. There's bound to be some asymmetry there that will throw some people off.
Still, it was made to work beautifully in the case of the DJ Max Portable games, and rhythm titles are often my go-to genre for plane rides and long trips. Whatever the case, it has to be better than the Game Boy Color version, which I can personally guarantee you is the worst version of Pop'n you will ever play.
Would you guys be willing to give this a shot on PSP if it comes stateside?

Ladies and gentlemen, I am concerned. Once again, it seems that a great many people are suffering, and that's hard to watch. This tends to happen when fighting games are involved, and while I'm not exactly sure what causes it, I like to do what I can to help.
To that end, I have put together a simple troubleshooting guide that might soothe some of the unbearable pain you seem to be experiencing. Hit the jump for some easy instructions on how to STFU about Super Street Fighter IV.
Of course it is. But as a sort-of-journalist, I know not to say that until it's been officially confirmed. Instead, I'm meant to tell you that Capcom has launched a mysterious new website, whose URL contains the words "new warrior," and then say "what could it be?"
Well, it could be an ad for a new line of pajamas, but it's not. It's a Super Street Fighter IV teaser site. Probably. If you've been following this, you've most likely seen Hamza's post about the alleged appearence of T. Hawk, or heard the rumblings of what might be featured in a new edition of SFIV from EventHubs.
There's also been talk that whatever is happening would be revealed this Monday, and as you can see, the teaser site that might not be (but totally is) for Super Street Fighter IV brandishes the date and time, 2009.9.29, 17:00 JST, which is pretty much Monday in the US. AKA: 4am Tuesday morning, Eastern time. You can check it out for yourself and draw your own conclusions, but expect to hear some news later this evening. Probably not about pajamas.
Cave fans, give yourselves a round of applause. We told you a while back that Makoto Asada had said the region code for the company's upcoming Mushihime-sama Futari Ver. 1.5 for Xbox 360 had yet to be decided. Michael McWhertor over at Kotaku had a chance to speak with Asada at TGS, and asked if the game would be region-free. His response?
"We had a lot of good feedback from overseas users, so for this time, as a test, we're going to make the game region free so that overseas users can play it."
Hell yes. Not only will Mushihime's overseas sales directly affect the company's decision to knock off the region-locking in the future, but Asada went on to say that if it performs well outside of Japan, they may even localize and export upcoming projects officially.
"By making Mushihime-sama Futari region-free, what we're doing is measuring the amount of overseas users, this will have a direct impact on whether Espgaluda II and other titles will be localized for America. So it's probably a good idea to pick it up!"
Yes. Yes, it is. So if you've been emailing Cave and holding on to hope like I have, it was not in vain. Now you need only hit Play-Asia or wherever it is you import your games from, and enjoy. Thanks to everyone who joined the cause, and to McWhertor for popping the question. Hooray!
Wouldn't it be awesome to have Team ICO's games on the PlayStation 3 like that thing they did with God of War: Collection? Of course it would. You know it, I know it, and according to a recent TGS interview with 1UP, Fumito Ueda knows it, too.
When asked if we'd ever see ICO and Shadow of the Colossus bundled together in a combo pack on the PS3, the games' creator says he's all for it. Ueda tells 1UP:
"I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I've been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."
This would of course need the approval and support of Sony execs, but hey, they did it for God of War, and Fumito Ueda certainly wants to see it happen. He's most certainly not alone in that. Can you imagine remastered versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus with anti-aliasing, perhaps even texture upgrades, in 720p? I've often felt these games deserved better than the hardware they were put on, and it's looking like if there's enough public outcry, they might just get it.
"Glad to see no comment against this. It's a good start. Now, send Sony a lot of whiny mails, maybe some hate mail. And perhaps it will see the light of day (and a place inside of my heart (and PS..."...
Is the fabled Wii Classic Controller PRO on its way to the North American market? Koei seems to think so. As pointed out on Siliconera, the comany's fact sheet for Samurai Warriors 3 mentions it twice, saying that the game takes total advantage of the new controller.
This wouldn't be a big deal, except that Koei is saying this in the English fact sheet; the same one we ourselves were sent. Samurai Warriors 3 ships with the controller bundled in Japan, and with the way Koei is touting its greatness in the aforementioned fact sheet, it sounds like they really want us to play it with this thing as well. Judging by all the hype, we'd be surprised if North America and Europe don't see a similar bundle when the game hits our shores in 2010.
Personally, I'd really like to have one of these. Word is, the new Monster Hunter Tri plays gorgeously with it, and I've seen a few Capcom employees singing its praises on Twitter for a while now. What do you guys think? If it's not released on its own, would you pick up Samurai Warriors 3 just to get your hands on this controller?
"The Classic Controller Pro is the sex, feels sooo good in your hands, one of the best feel controllers I've ever held. They soo need to bring it out of Japan."...
Moar Frank West! Ever since he was confirmed for Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, I can't get enough of seeing this guy in action. Hopefully you can't either, because I'm about to show you some more regardless. Capcom's community manager, Seth Killian, sat down with Gamespot at TGS to give us all a first-hand look at the mighty Dead Rising star in action.
As you may know, Mr. Killian is himself mighty when it comes to fightans, so if someone's going to show us how to use a new character, this is the guy to do it. The video gives us a close look at Frank's attacks in the game and just what happens to your opponents when you unleash them, with explanations and commentary from S-Kill on what we're seeing.
We're more excited than ever to give Frank a try when Tatsunoko Vs Capcom finally comes statestide this winter. If all this talk of zombies has you itching for more Dead Rising, you might also check out some of our team's coverage of the sequel, straight from TGS. And for more Frank, check out his new character page on the official Tatsunoko Vs Capcom website.
With all the Japanese games on display at this Japanese event happening in Japan, it's about time we got to look at a shmup. To that end, Taito has released some fresh screenshots for the upcoming remake of Raystorm on Xbox Live Arcade.
The new Raystorm HD is playable at Microsoft's booth at the event, so hopefully someone from our team got a chance to tell us how it plays. In the meantime, you can hit the gallery for a look at its new visuals, which might not be the most impressive thing you've evr laid eyes on, but are still a great improvement over the old PS1 version. The original models are presented in high definition, and the game has never looked better.
There's also a trailer that's being shown at the event, but you've seen that already because Uncle Topher takes good care of you. The game should be showing up on both XBLA and PlayStation Network very soon.
