The PS3 price cut has generated some good feeling in the game industry and provided Sony with some good press, possibly because we're all glad that the long will-they-won't-they game is finally over. Electronic Arts has been quick to congratulate Sony's announcement, claiming it was the right time for the company to do this.
EA CEO John Riccitiello told the Associated Press that a price cut a "bold move done precisely at the right time." He also praised Sony for not waiting until the Holiday season and suddenly busting the announcement out just before Thanksgiving. He believes that doing it in August means that the announcement "really stands out" at a time when other companies aren't yet announcing their big deals and bargains.
It's certainly great that Sony finally did it, and hopefully the good press will translate into good sales. It'll be interesting to see what happens as we head into Christmas, especially with the Xbox 360 and Wii still able to have a price cut ace up their own sleeves.

Are you serious? Check out some other topics here about the PS3. People are bitching about no BC. I love how everyone needs to "shut up" about L4D2, but bitching at Sony for not having BC in their new console is perfectly fine.

Actally a large amount of people (Such as myself) are now saying that with a price cut the PS3 is a much better choice compared to the 360 but there's also an amount of people who weren't complaining about the price as much as they were the Backwards Compatability issues so their requests still haven't been met.
No one asking for backwards compatability needs to STFU as it's a genuine concern for them and the same complaints were made when the DSi had no Backwards GBA compatability so it isn't just a complaint limted to the PS3. Some people wouldn't even mind paying a slighty higher price as long as they got BC though the people who want a price cut AND backwards compatability DO need STFU as that's just plain crazy.
This isn't so much a price cut as it is a PS3 lobotomy. It's cheaper, and it's brain has been liquefied.

You can still play PS1 games can you not? Theres the BC Right there :P
You can get used PS2 for $50 from homeless people selling them on the streets. Sony needed the price drop and since the 60/80 gig quite a few fat PS3's have been BC's less.....I keep all my old systems for a reason my Wii can't play snes games.....
