In a conversation with gamesindustry.biz, Bethesda publishing executive Paul Oughton said that a new Elder Scrolls title is likely in 2010 and that the company isn’t particularly interested in Wii development, despite the fact that the they have plans to work on a few “big titles” every year. His remark comes on the heels of the release of Fallout 3, a title that will probably bring Bethesda into the videogame world’s limelight.
From the interview:
At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010. At the moment we're not that interested in the Wii. We're going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles.
In regards to the Nintendo sentiment, Oughton backed up a bit and said that Nintendo has done a decent job at allowing developers to spit out a plethora of mini-games oriented titles. As for the next Elder Scrolls title, Oughton didn’t elaborate. But that doesn’t mean a boy can’t dream of horse armor, high fantasy, and deeply forested areas all over again, does it?

What I fond most poignant in his statement about Nintendo was the last paragraph:
But Nintendo bought new products in with vast amounts of marketing money to launch these into the minds of the consumer and made a market for them. Every other publisher then very quickly developed DS and Wii products and we're getting to saturation now.
Yeah, no shit, but unfortunately we're being saturated with pathetic mini-games and non-games like Wii Music. If there's something that the Wii needs it's a load of games that break the pathetic mini-game mold, but I understand his reasoning.
Oh, well. At least it's coming out on the PC.
When someone was watching me play, she asked "So are they all monsters?" No, they're just really, really ugly humans.
..with 480p widescreen
..with gimmiky sword waggle controls
..with no DLC
Yay! Go Wii!
Furthermore, I think that developers who wont make games for the Wii just because it's weak under the hood clearly don't believe in their ability to craft a good game. If you think you need 360/PS3 level visuals for your game to be interesting, they you're doing something wrong.
And I love how some people are still bitching about no Wii DLC when two major titles will allow DLC to SD cards.
I still want the "graphics > gameplay" people to explain the popularity of Mega Man 9 is graphics are so freaking important to a game.
They need to bring oblivs to the PSP.
I bought Fallout 3, and my thoughts were "Fsck yeah, Fallout" and "Great, now then can get to work on TES:5".
I think Bethesda knows how to craft a good game, regardless of the technical limitations of a platform.
Problem is, in order to create a game for the Wii, it would have to be a completely DIFFERENT game from whatever 360/PS3/PC game they develop, and maybe they don't want to add that EXTRA game into their work schedule. There's a lot of Wii's out there in the wild, but it's still probably not worth the effort for them to create an entirely different game for the Wii. Their standards are too high to create a technically inferior version of Elder Scrolls: Hammerfall for the Wii.
I don't think we're going to have enemy leveling in the next one...they left it out of Fallout 3, which would seem to indicate that they learned their lesson or are going against it in the future.
read: Wii? the Wii? we don't give a FUCK 'bout the Wii. Weak ass shit that Wii.
yay new elder scrolls.
I love Oblivion. Fantastic experience. I love F3 as well.
Let 2010 come.
I understand it is hard to work from the top and then go down, but it still is a lot of potential consumers being under served ...
