Eight Wii games, new IP coming from EA Sports photo

Straight from the horse’s mouth today comes some exciting news for Wii-owning sports fans, as well as sports gamers in general. Next Generation brings us tidings from Peter Moore’s official blog, itsinthegame.ea.com, of future announcements for EA’s sports games. We’ve already heard of FaceBreaker, an arcade boxing title that’s in development for the PS3, 360, and Wii, but Moore is titillating us all with statements like this:

I can tell you we now have EIGHT titles in development for the Wii, testament both to the global impact of that console currently in the global marketplace, as well as to our desire to attract more consumers to experience EA SPORTS games, no matter their experience playing games nor their prowess with a traditional controller.

As to the rampant speculation about EA’s yet-to-be-announced new IP, Moore could only say that EA was “still a couple of months away from any official new game announcements.” Personally, I’m wishing for another arcade sports franchise, something along the lines of NBA Jam or MLB SlugFest, as opposed to a sports sim. Also, I really hope that those Wii titles aren’t just mini-game compilations — the Wii doesn’t need any more of those. What kinds of stuff would you all like to see from EA Sports?

@Surf - nintendo owns that I think.

I'd like to see a good Kart racer from them (or anyone) but with real online features.

hockey
baseball
basketball
tennis
pingpong
golf
football
boxing

Anything like Super Punchout/Mike tysons would be a must for me. I love Super Punchout and got it down so I can wrap it in like 20-30 minutes.

@ Notazombie;

Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive if you happen to live in Europe, like me).

I don't know about what I want from EA Sports other than a Madden game. I just want Road Rash to be brought back, but that's EA, not EA Sports.

There is still not a single NHL game on the Wii... Why is it that they don't want my money?

@NotAZombie

Yeah it was Sega Genesis. I was way into the football and hockey ones (not sure if they had any others). They weren't particularly awesome gameplay wise, but you could do all kinds of crazy shit like like bribe the ref to call bogus penalties, or order your entire team to kill him (you had to physically chase him down though before he made it out of the stadium). The hockey one had crazy crap too where the ice would have booby traps (the football one had this too I think) and you could pick up a chainsaw and just rampage everyone on the ice. Everyone of the players had health bars too so if it ran out, the player would explode and all that would be left on the ice was a head on an upright hockey stick in a pool of blood.

.......it sounds pretty gory now that I type it but it was the 16-bit days so it was more cartoony. Speaking of, I used to watch the cartoon too.
